5 weeks Pregnant

JackGordonsMummy · 23/11/2019 21:03

Hi all,

I am only 5 weeks pregnant (due 24th of July) with baby number 2! All went well last pregnancy (appart from horrific morning sickness from 6 - 23 weeks)

I have seen a few old threads with Ladies asking this question but would be nice to have some reassurance from other Mums to be on how terrifying the wait to 12 weeks is!

I'm so scared something goes wrong every time I go to the loo I'm checking for blood and any pains in my abdomen i feel I'm convinced something bad is happening 😭 x

@GoldLeafTree I think there’s an early pregnancy unit near me yes, can I just call them?

pottypotamus · 01/12/2019 08:11

@AliasGrape yes you can call them direct and you usually speak to a midwife who will ask problem and how long it's been happening.

My local EPAU sees women without gp referral most of the time.

GoldLeafTree · 01/12/2019 08:11

@AliasGrape yes just give them a call and explain and they'll probably tell you to come in. My local EPU say any bleeding or abdominal pain and you can turn up. I'm not sure if it's the same everywhere but with my one it worked like an a+e, you get triaged and possibly have some blood tests done and then a doctor or nurse will examine you and possibly do a scan.

Spotting can be really normal in early pregnancy so try not to worry ( I know that's easier said than done ).

I'll be thinking of you and hope everything is okay

AliasGrape · 01/12/2019 08:36

Thank you.

Googling mine and they say they see women from 6 weeks which I’m not until Tuesday going by LMP. Not sure whether to just phone anyway.

pottypotamus · 01/12/2019 08:40

Give it a try, they may be able to book a slot for you come in when you're 6 weeks.

AliasGrape · 01/12/2019 08:41

Oh well I did just call and they said their emergency service on sat-sun was 7-7.30 am only. Great.

Guess I’ll just have to hang in till tomorrow. I have a splitting headache and do suddenly feel very sick indeed (had some diorrhea before I noticed the spotting) not sure if that’s a good sign or a sign it’s all going wrong.

hermionelodge · 01/12/2019 09:26

Sorry to hear you are going through this @AliasGrape. I've read so much on spotting and that it's common and normal so try not to worry. Just monitor it today and hopefully you can get seen asap tomorrow. This really is such a stressful time. I have everything crossed for you that all is well.

AliasGrape · 01/12/2019 09:57

Thank you.

Nothing since, so just trying to keep it in perspective. I’ve just read that diarrhoea can be a sign of ectopic pregnancy though. (Or as DP points out can just be a sign that we had a takeaway last night and I have IBS anyway).

Trying to distract myself for a bit reading frothier threads on mn and might watch some shitty Christmas films on Netflix.

JackGordonsMummy · 01/12/2019 13:05

@AliasGrape you poor thing I know it's so hard not to stress and worry! I've had a bad stomach a couple of times since finding out I was pregnant had diarrhoea 2 or 3 times. Since giving birth to my DS in Nov 2017 I've suffered on and off with piles. So my bottom bleeds sometimes after. Pregnancy flares it up cos all the hormones etc.. was there a lot of spotting? Has it stopped? I've read it's really common too! Get the EPU phoned 1st thing tomorrow morning. Really annoys me that they are closed st the weekend as if your supposed to only have a scare on week days! Xx

AliasGrape · 01/12/2019 13:19

Thanks @JackGordonsMummy. I’ll definitely phone them first thing tomorrow.

No looking back with a bit of perspective it wasn’t a lot really, but at half six this morning after being awake from half four fretting anyway it just felt like the end of the world.

I’m obsessively wiping and checking but there’s been no more. I just don’t FEEL as pregnant as I did earlier in the week but I don’t really know what that is specifically apart from maybe that I was needing to wee at least on the hour before and now I’m not. My boobs are still pretty sore. The test I took this morning said pregnant and one week more than it did last week. It was only a tiny bit of spotting but I dunno, I just have a sinking feeling.

JackGordonsMummy · 01/12/2019 15:45

Of course you do it's so scary when that happens. I had a bit of spotting around 5/6 weeks with my 1st pregnancy and he is now 2 years old so try to think positive! They booked me in for an early scan and did Swab tests to check for thrush etc cos that apparently can cause bleeding. Let me know how you get on with your phone call Xx

Hi 👋🏻 I found out I was pregnant last week and I'm now just over 5 weeks - due early August. A little honeymoon baby (hopefully if it sticks).
I am also absolutely terrified and convinced every little twinge is something wrong, and scared of going to the toilet and seeing blood - seems like a lot of us have this fear. The wait to 12 weeks feels like forever!!
I've got nausea, v.sore boobs and general tiredness.
I've booked myself a scan in for a few days before Christmas at window to the womb. They've had a discount on this weekend for Black Friday so it only cost me £59 instead of £79. Definitely need the reassurance!!!

JackGordonsMummy · 02/12/2019 08:16

Aww congratulations @KayliRE on your BFP! Hopefully the time from now and your early scan flies by for you! It is an awful wait!

My nausea is getting worse by the day this morning I think I actually may throw up! Having a 2 year old to run after change nappies and make breakfast for isn't helping Haha! Morning (all day) sickness is a killer. Last time I was in bed the whole 1st trimester but I can't do that this time. I'm really struggling roll on 20 odd weeks till I feel human again (going by last time)

How are things today @AliasGrape xxx

Thanks @JackGordonsMummy - there was a bit of brown discharge this morning. The EPU just said it was common - they can’t assess me till I’m 48 hours clear of diarrhoea though so I just have to wait and see I guess.

I phoned the other EPU as I’m kind of between two and not actually booked in anywhere at the moment and they said they can scan me tomorrow morning but I don’t know if that’s too early to see anything/reassure me. Also I’m only supply in my current job so if I’m not in I’m not paid, don’t know if I’m being ridiculous taking time and loosing money when they can’t see anything anyway - I’m 6 weeks tomorrow based on LMP but if you base it on ovulation date it’s not 6 weeks till Friday. I don’t want to waste everyone’s time!

GoldLeafTree · 02/12/2019 10:05

@AliasGrape it's not too early to see anything at 6 weeks, a friend had a heartbeat visible at 6 weeks+1

My scan at 6 weeks confirmed blighted ovum so definitely not too early to see anything, it might be worth going if it will reassure you

It's good that theres been no more bleeding

AliasGrape · 02/12/2019 10:12

Ok I’ll go for it @GoldLeafTree

AliasGrape · 02/12/2019 10:13

Sorry posted to soon! You’re right it’s worth knowing/ ruling some things out at least. I’m sorry that happened to you xx

HairsprayBabe · 02/12/2019 11:21

Morning, I agree @AliasGrape - get a scan done, 6 weeks should show something.

I am still incredibly sick - Dr has prescribed me some anti-sickness tablets now and signed me off work for another week. Thrush seems to be dying down thank god but I am properly miserable with this sickness Sad

JackGordonsMummy · 02/12/2019 12:45

I feel so ill I've not actually been sick yet but just constantly nauseous. I feel so guilty for my 2 year old I normally take him out and about but I literally can't peel myself off the couch. The poor lamb must be bored out of him head. I really hope it doesn't last to 23 wks like my last pregnancy x

OP posts:
hermionelodge · 02/12/2019 13:33

@AliasGrape I also agree on getting the scan. I was going to wait until the 21st but I'm now booking one for this Thursday. This period of unknown is just too stressful. I hate being so in the dark. I think we are at the same stage as well, I will be 6 weeks tomorrow going by lmp.

@HairsprayBabe that's good you've been given some meds! Hopefully they kick in and you start to feel better! @JackGordonsMummy, that must be do stressful for you having a little one to look after and not getting the luxury of lying feeling sorry for yourself. I hope it doesn't last long for you. Especially not to 23 weeks!

hermionelodge · 02/12/2019 18:48

I've just booked an early scan for Sunday, I will be 6+5. It says I my booking confirmation to bring my maternity notes but my appt with the midwife isn't until the 11th so I have nothing. Has anyone had this? Will it be an issue?

squirrelnutkins1 · 02/12/2019 20:01

Can I join? Got my BFP recently on what would've been my original due date!! (early mc 💔)
I'm 5.5 weeks. I've booked my booking appt at the gps. I'm thinking of booking an early scan just before Xmas. I'm terrified as we only found out last time at 5.5 weeks and it was all over by 7 weeks ☹️ so I'm on tenter hooks, every time I go to the loo I'm expecting to see red and it all be over.

Not had many symptoms really but my nips are sooo sore and like bullets all the time 🤣 and I've been super hungry the last few days.

Congrats to everyone x

JackGordonsMummy · 03/12/2019 09:32

Aww congratulations on you BFP @squirrelnutkins1 ! I'm so sorry to hear about your previous loss it must be extra scary this time around for you! I'd reccomend an early scan to put your mind at ease! It's such a long wait
till January.

I've been crying all morning I feel so nauseous and I feel so much mum guilt for my 2 year old. I struggled to make his breakfast I was boaking so much. I forgot how horrible I felt last time for the first few months its going to be so hard this time around with a toddler x

OP posts:
AliasGrape · 03/12/2019 13:50

Congratulations squirrel so sorry for your previous loss. Hairspray I hope the meds are helping and JackGordons I hope you’re feeling a bit better or at least that this horrible bit passes quickly for you.

I had my scan, they could see what is most likely a gestational sac in the right place but just kept saying it was too early to see anything else - can’t see the heartbeat or foetal pole. I expected that though. The sonographer said there looked to possibly be something inside but again couldn’t confirm that either as all just a bit early, only measuring just about 5 weeks which is fair enough I suppose as I know I ovulated late, although should still be a little over 5. Got to go back in 2 weeks for another scan and hopefully we’ll see growth and a heartbeat, please god.

She could see my bowel in spasm a lot which I suppose accounts for the diarrhoea and could be what the sharp pains I was getting were.

No more bleeding/spotting, a few tiny flecks of brownish discharge this morning but they really were tiny. No nausea, peeing a bit more again though and my boobs feel like they’ve got razor blades inside. I also noticed a couple of dark patches of skin on my face this morning, tiny and inconclusive but possibly melasma? So I’m trying to be positive that I’ve got some symptoms going on.

JackGordonsMummy · 03/12/2019 16:03

I'm so glad you went @AliasGrape so sorry it was a bit too early to see anything but at least you know how far along you are. Have they booked you in for 2 weeks time? On so glad the bleeding has subsided and they found a reason for your bad stomach. All sounds positive.

I'm still in bed feel horrible my Mother in law took my DS for the day till DP gets home from work x
