Classed as obese at booking in appointment- size 12

I knew I had a wobbly tummy left over from c section from baby number 1 and have been struggling to get rid of it so I wouldn’t have been surprised if they said I was overweight.

But I actually just by 0.1 point get classed in the obese bracket so need a GTT this time

Have you got a tiny frame? Friend of mine looks very overweight and is a 12 because she tiny bones.

Or maybe the bmi thing is a blunt instrument and is failing you? What size were you in pre kids?

Clothes size has little to do with your weight.

A small person can be obese at a size 12. A dress size, in isolation, doesn't mean anything and certainly doesn't mean you're NOT obese. Plus many shops vanity size.

I agree OP, the BMI measure is not great IMO. I am a size 12 with my second pregnancy after a CS and fell into the same category but was 30 BMI on the nose. I wasn't referred for a GTT until fundal height started measuring big at 28 weeks which came back clear. I wouldn't worry too much it hasn't effected my pregnancy.

It's just another bit of proof that dress size means absolutely nothing. Whenever people post threads on here & give their clothes size rather than their height & weight, I always think it's meaningless - and it is.

Clothes size doesn’t mean anything. It’s how much fat you are carrying. Also, clothes sizes keep getting bigger and bigger. I have stayed the same weight/size for 20 years but I am 3 sizes smaller . Please don’t rely on dress sizes!

How tall are you and how much do you weigh?

I’m 5ft4 and have just dropped from the obese to the overweight category at about 12st 6.
I am still a 16/18 so nowhere near a 12 (unless it was very stretchy....)

I’m 5ft 4 and was weight at 11 stone 11.

At my lightest I’m 10stone 9, but that was way pre kids

My waist is well defined and 31 inches right now. Normally 30 inches

How can you be wearing the same clothes at bmi 30 that you were wearing when your bmi was 25? Are they not very fitted?

It just is, op. If your height and weight indicate that you are obese you can't wave around your size 12s and mitigate the health effects.

So you had a BMI of 25 last time you got weighed and now it's just over 30 and you're still wearing the same (non stretchy) clothes? Are you sure that's right OP? The difference between those two BMIs is around 2 stone, so I'm sure you'd feel heavier.

I think we imagine obese to be massive, like supersize vs superskinny, or the tv shows of people who are 40st. Obese isn't really that big at all, and could easily be a size 12-14 for a shortish woman.

I'm 5ft 4 and was classed as overweight at 10 stone 4lb. I'm way more than that now so I'll also be obess, at almost 12 stone you probably are classed as that I'm affraid

Meh. I’m 5ft 9 and a size 14/16 and have been all my life- literally since puberty. I’ve got 36JJ breasts. I was classed as obese in both pregnancy- really don’t think I look obese and the midwife expressed surprise. Said BMI doesn’t account for comically large boobs. I was fine and didn’t have any weight related problems (or any problems other than sickness) in pregnancy. It’s just one of those stupid red tape things you can’t get wound up about.
