Help! Low hcg levels

Here’s my story. Currently cycle day 39. I should be 5+3.

AF due cycle day 32, no sign (I’m always a 32 day cycle).

I had tested for ovulation this month, didn’t get a positive opk.

Very light spotting cycle day 34 and 35 then nothing.

Cycle day 36 I got BFP from first morning urine. Then got two bfn. Had blood taken cycle day 36 to check levels.

Cramps the evening of cycle day 36 and all day cycle day 37.

No symptoms except bloatedness since cycle day 36.

Docs phone today (cycle day 39) and tell me results are inconclusive. Level between 6-30. And it’s recommended to test 48hrs after to check levels are increasing.

Docs cannot fit me in for blood test until cycle day 46!!!!

I’m going crazy here. Does anyone have any advice or positive stories?

My theories are

  1. I ovulated late so when I had bloods taken on cd 36 I was still very early hence the bfn on urine test.
  1. I’m having an ectopic or miscarriage.

I don’t understand why docs aren’t concerned I could be having an ectopic and aren’t testing my blood earlier!

I’ve been in bits today. DH has had enough of me :(

Doctors wont be concerned about ectopic unless you was having sided pain and/or a scan couldnt locate the pregnancy and therefore would check.

Have you yourself tested since? It could of been a faulty test the one which was bfn or maybe it wasnt as sensitive?? Unfortunately if they cannot fit you in then there isnt alot that can be done but if your levels are going to rise then in 7 days time they should be raised quite a bit. Could you possibly ask to get your bloods done elsewhere sooner if it will help you? When I had to have mine checked with a previous pregnancy I was having it done at the hospital instead of gp so I'm not sure if this could be an option for you? X

@Boymummy3

I’ve tested today (this afternoon) and I got a positive. Docs are getting me in tomorrow thank god! I’m really worried about the levels being so low. Fingers crossed my levels have risen! Like I say I could have ovulated late so may be not as far along!

@thirteen92 oh that's great they have managed to get you in earlier! Fingers crossed for you xx

Jurassiclover · 28/10/2019 17:57

Hey, I'm just hoping on to say I'm in a similar situation. Should be 7+0 today, had blood work done when I would've been 6+1 and my levels only came back as 35, I've had some bleeding and cramps so I'm back for bloods tomorrow so a whole week after original bloods.

My cycles have been around 39-42 days though and I wasn't using OPKs so no clue when I actually ovulated.

So either I also ovulated early and am not 7+0 or I've had a miscarriage. I've been an absolute mess and waiting a whole week has been horrible 😭

I have my fingers crossed that your levels have risen and it's good news for you! Keep us updated!

Jurassiclover · 28/10/2019 17:58

That should've said ovulated late not early whoops

thirteen92 · 28/10/2019 18:31

@Jurassiclover

I bet it’s been awful! :( I really have my fingers crossed for you! Please let me know how you get on with your next blood results!

I’ve had no bleeding which is making me feel more positive! 🤞🏻 I’m supposed to be 5+2 but I think I ovulated late. I’m praying for a doubled hcg level when I go back tomorrow.

@thirteen92 Thank you! I'll update tomorrow!

That's deffo a good sign then! Crossing my fingers for you too🤞

Jurassiclover · 29/10/2019 06:56

So at home pregnancy test was negative this morning so I'm expecting bad news from my blood test 😔

thirteen92 · 29/10/2019 08:06

@Jurassiclover Awh no! :( when are you getting your bloods back?

I’ve done an Asda test this morning, it needs 25ml of hcg to be positive. It showed positive but it’s not super dark. I’m hoping the nurse can explain all of this to me a little more this morning!

OP posts:
Jurassiclover · 29/10/2019 08:12

@thirteen92 not til this evening as I'm stuck at work til 5pm, then I'm off to get my bloods and should have them back within an hour roughly 😔 when you getting bloods back? And yeah I'm sure she'll be able to explain, got my fingers crossed for you!

thirteen92 · 29/10/2019 14:24

@Jurassiclover so I found out my level was 15 when I had my bloods taken (I would have been 5 weeks. I’ve been back today and had more bloods done, the nurse didn’t seem too concerned but said they’d expect a level of at least 30 from today.

She said I possibly ovulated and implanted late so gestationally I wouldn’t be very far at all. Who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️ I just want my levels back! I should get them Thursday. Let me know how things go with you!

Jurassiclover · 01/11/2019 18:06

@thirteen92 hey, how did you get on in the end? I'm hoping all went well🤞

thirteen92 · 02/11/2019 07:46

@Jurassiclover

I was in hospital yesterday and they diagnosed me with a pregnancy of unknown location. They’ve told me the pregnancy isn’t viable and I have to go back to hospital tomorrow for an injection of methotrexate to make my body miscarry. I’m so scared.

How are you feeling now? Have you bled?

OP posts:
Jurassiclover · 02/11/2019 10:54

@thirteen92 oh my goodness I'm so so sorry. Sending you a hand hold Flowers I hope all goes as well as possible for you.

Yeah I had bleeding and cramps for about 5 days in total. My blood test has come back and my levels came back as less than 1 so confirmed miscarriage. I'm doing okay now, struggling with seeing pregnancy announcements on social media but I've gone back to work now which is helping take my mind off it.

thirteen92 · 02/11/2019 11:02

@Jurassiclover are you TTC straight away? X

OP posts:
Jurassiclover · 02/11/2019 11:05

@thirteen92 as soon as I stopped bleeding me and DP have started to BD every other day again, so we've decided to TTC straight away. Some people recommend waiting 3 months but I spoke to my doctor and he said I had no reason to wait x

thirteen92 · 02/11/2019 11:25

@Jurassiclover I think we’ll do the same! Fingers crossed for us both. Should keep in touch to see how we both get on TTC.

OP posts:
KHall84 · 02/11/2019 11:32

If you have methotrexate you have to wait 3 months or it can cause serious damage to the new pregnancy it's a cancer drug so I would definitely wait the 3 months I had to have it in March and we caught again 2nd mo th trying again after waiting the 3 months xx also I would get another scan before having the injection though as 2nd time they also thought I was having ectopic and was going in next day to have the injection again when consultant looked at my scans and decided unknown location and made me wait a week for a recan and there the baby was healthy although my hcg levels were doubling so depends if yours have been doubling x

Jurassiclover · 02/11/2019 11:42

@thirteen92 I would check with your doctor just to see if it's safe to TTC straight after but I definitely have fingers crossed for both of us!! We should definitely keep in touch!

thirteen92 · 02/11/2019 19:59

@KHall84 did your pregnancy end successfully? My hcg has gone 15 to 23 then to 57. From 23 to 57 it took 3 days. I last had my hcg level done on Friday so I’m back tomorrow morning for the bloods doing and then the injection depending on what the bloods say. Doctor has said we’re way past being able to call it a viable pregnancy due to the hcg levels. I think unless by some miracle my hcg levels were in the 100s, it’s the end of the road for this pregnancy.

That’s such a shame as well about the injection making us wait 3 months :( I feel so deflated.

OP posts:
KHall84 · 02/11/2019 20:04

The ectopic didnt but were rising the way your hcg levels are so I would say it is ectopic, my 2nd time it was a viable pregnancy and am currently 15weeks 4 days and I caught on my 2nd month of trying again after the injection but after the 3 months and they advise 3 months because its dangerous and could cause major defects with baby so really isnt worth taking the risk xx

thirteen92 · 02/11/2019 20:13

@KHall84

Ah really :( hospital said the next time I get pregnant I need to inform EPAU so that they can monitor me closely to ensure levels are rising properly. Means we’d be able to try from mid February.

dottyp0104 · 02/11/2019 20:17

@thirteen92 just saw your post, sorry you are going through this. I had my methotrexate injection yesterday. Really hope you get some good news tomorrow.
My bloods were in the 1500 but were not rising enough and the scan was suspicious.
Fingers crossed for you xx

KHall84 · 02/11/2019 20:18

Yes that's right I had bloods every 48hrs in this pregnancy until they reached 1500 then they scanned me so you will get an early scan which is about when your 6 weeks which is nice I had somethings show up on my scan so I was scanned every week until 9 weeks but everything is fine xx the 3 months goes really quickly and actually gives you time to get your cycles sorted as the injection does change them so monitoring them and also take your vitamins ready is what helped us I think as my husband also took mens pregnancy care ones and on both occasions we took them we got pregnant xx

thirteen92 · 02/11/2019 20:23

@dottyp0104 how are you feeling after the injection? I’m really nervous! Don’t really know what to expect. Where do they inject you?

@KHall84 that sounds really nice though, keeping your mind at ease. So glad it’s worked out for you! Hopefully it’ll work out for me.
