Hello Mums

I am 29 weeks pregnant with our second baby, a little boy. We are french but we need to find a name that fits in english speaking countries. We thought about Dorian...

My sister says it's a bit negative for a boy, as Oscar Wilde's character is not really great.

What do you think ? in general and about this comment in particular ?

thanks !!!!

i knew a guy called Dorian

he is cool, fun, sexy, gorgeous...

fancied by many females and held in v high esteem by mates.

i think its a fabulous name.

as the wearer of a name seemingly no-one else had growing up, id FAR rather have a more interesting name that john. or sarah. or claire or whatever. (no offence to anyone with runofthemill names, like )

Clement
Daniel
David

Richard
Theodore

Boco · 15/08/2007 22:27

Going for Gold really had a fabulous theme tune

loler · 15/08/2007 22:34

Boco - DH and I think you win the post of the day - have tears!

My first ever kiss was on the french exchange with a Bruno - have fond memories of that name! And apart from Bruno Brooks (now long gone) can't think of another one.

Niecie · 15/08/2007 22:38

There is that Bruno from Strictly Come Dancing - can't spell his surname though!

Stuffy · 15/08/2007 22:39

Dorian sounds lovely. It's nice to have a name that is slightly unusual.

yama · 15/08/2007 22:39

Boco - "The heat is on, The time is right ............"

loler · 15/08/2007 22:41

DH now doing the da da's from the theme tune.

He never normally shows any interest in MN - can't come up with good French name but he also says Dorien sounds a bit gay. Mind you we have 12 days and counting to come up with a name of our own - he's no better there!

pointydog · 15/08/2007 22:46

I think 'cold', as in Dorian Gray
and then I think 'Little Lord Fauntleroy' for some reason

hester · 15/08/2007 22:50

Go for Raphael! Or Joseph

Boco · 15/08/2007 22:50

Yeah, come on Yama...

'It's time for you,
For you to play your game.

People are coming,
Everyone's trying,
Trying to be the best that they can.

When they're going for, going for GOLD!'

Boco · 15/08/2007 22:51

loler, you and your dp need to go and watch it on you tube - it really is very uplifting

IdrisTheDragon · 15/08/2007 23:01

I am now singing the Going for Gold music .

MrsJohnCusack · 15/08/2007 23:09

i LOVED going for gold actually...

am PMSL at Didier Partouche

BagLady75 · 16/08/2007 08:59

I think it's sweet. I also like Darius (kind of similar).

3Ddonut · 16/08/2007 09:07

I'd like to cast my vote for Etienne. Very lovely name, also, Louis is quite popular in the UK. Good luck!!!!

prettybird · 16/08/2007 09:13

I know a Dorian at work (he's in his c. 30s) and I have never thought of the name as feminine or gay.

I really like the name Alex as one that would work in both French and English (but then, ds' middle name is Alexander, so of course I'd like it!)

pirategirl · 16/08/2007 09:15

Havent read the reast of thread, but for me I don't like it, i would always remind me of Birds of a Feather too, altho this wouldnt be my main reason.

sugarfree · 16/08/2007 09:18

Pmsl @ Didier Partouche too.

harpsichordcarrier · 16/08/2007 09:19

arf arf at Didier PArtouche.
I like DOrian, though I admit I did think of Dorian Grey but I think it is a lovely name and not too feminine

margoandjerry · 16/08/2007 09:29

Boco Am doing weird at-desk laugh-smother which is coming out sounding like a snort.

Dorian - I thought John Dorian from Scrubs - lurve him. Had forgotten about Birds of a Fevver. Not a good reference but it was a while ago.

Boco · 16/08/2007 09:35

Try shouting 'Didier Partouche, you're playing catch-up!' in the highest pitched irish accent you can muster. Go on, please?

fortyplus · 16/08/2007 09:37

I think Dorian is fairly upper crust English, so up to you whether you think that fits!

Only Dorian I can think of was a showjumper.

foxinsocks · 16/08/2007 09:42

hi mamanflo

we're in a part of London with a fair amount of French children at the dc's school

we have a Raphael and an Etienne - I really wouldn't worry about needing to fit in English speaking countries. Most people are accustomed to foreign names now (especially if you are French yourselves!).
