I am a terrible shopper but with baby due in Jan I need to think about buying the essentials!

I wondered about waiting until Black Friday (I’ll be doing it all online, hate shops)...do any savvy mumsnetters know the best way to check/search for deals?

I'm due February and wondering if prams ect ever get reduced on black Friday. I'm probably going to wait until then to get any of the big stuff.

@CupCupGoose yes that’s what I was thinking. I’m pretty sure I have in mind the things I need and which I’m interested in, maybe a quick google on the day will bring up the best deals?

Might be worth signing up to the email lists of shops you like. Mothercare, mamas and papas ect as I'm guessing (hoping!) they'll email the best deals.

That's a great idea, we had a January baby and did the same. We got our sling (Ergobaby) and our buggy (Mountain Buggy) in the Black Friday sales and a few other things too. I'd suggest checking out Amazon, specific websites of the brands you are interested in, and an online baby shop like Natural Baby Shower :)

We had our baby in April and actually found the Christmas sales better than Black Friday. I bought our Next2Me crib less than half price from John Lewis online on Boxing Day, within a few hours the better things had all gone.

Make sure you've gone to a store, tried out and picked what you want before Black Friday. Especially with prams, I wouldn't buy without trying.

Also make sure you know the going rate for the things you want, a lot of deals are made to look better than they are. Camel camel camel is a good site to use to check historic Amazon prices.

I was waiting for an offer on the pram I'd chosen, but it wasn't one that ever got reduced. I did however manage to get it using a site wide 10% off code which was better than nothing.

With lightning deals it's good to have a price you're whiling to pay in mind before the deals start. Sometimes it's worth paying more for the same product. For example if something is £10 cheaper, but your buying it 4 months before you need it and from an online store that's difficult to return to you might bet better just getting it full price instore nearer the time you need it. The extra 3-4months of warranty cover and the ease of return if anything goes wrong is worth the extra £10.

For baby stuff you generally get better deals after Christmas. However note that most women have their babies between 36-40 weeks so it’s often more sensible to have everything you need immediately ready by week 36 rather than wait for money off.

Also have you considered the NCT nearly new sales? You don’t have to be a member to join but you can often save loads on newborn stuff and because it’s only used for a few months it’s almost as good as new. I have seen 2017 models of moses baskets/ cribs/ prams for £20, sealed boxes of disposable underwear for £1, baby baths and used john lewis blankets still in their original packaging for £2!
