I am 40 and pregnant. Will be 41 by the time baby arrives.

This is number 4 for me, and totally unexpected. Do you have any already?

babsyB1978 · 03/10/2019 19:32

hi, yes i have a son, he is 15 already almost 16, so there is a large difference, and I actually didn´t think we could get pregnant, since i haven´t used anything since we had him.... and now suddenly at 41 I am 5 weeks pregnant... and my first thought was "thank you, thank you, thank you"... and the second was .... i really don´t want to loose this baby... only 5 weeks.. thats nothing, so i am scared to be too happy yet...

Thank you :) so very excited and scared at the same time - but mostly overly happy ;)

Congratulations. There's 15 years and 18 years between my sisters eldest two and the baby and thry both absolutely dote on him

babsyB1978 · 03/10/2019 19:45

hehe yes I haven´t told anyone yet, just found out 1 hour ago - but my spouse is on his way home... he knew I was going to test, so he will not be totally surprised - but OMG he will be, well I don´t know - we will see - but our son will be happy - he has asked for a sibling since he was little :)

Its so weird (and amazing) that it suddenly now should work - after 15 years :)

Congratulations, that was lovely to read. Your teen may be a bit surprised but my teens were really good with my baby.

kazza446 · 03/10/2019 19:48

I was 42 when I found out I was pregnant with my ds. I was rather embarrassed at being caught out but he is one of the best things that has happened to me! I had a relatively straight forward pregnancy too. Had to have a c section but that was due to having 3 previous sections. X

babsyB1978 · 03/10/2019 19:57

oh thats great to hear that it went well for you - good to hear from others in their 40s :) (Ps. my friends will think I am totally crazy - but I don´t care - I have secretly wished for this for 15 years)

So I will take it one day at the time and hope for the best... but yes this is amazing, I am sooo happy - i would like to tell it right now... but i will wait until week 12... except to my spouse and son :)

Congrats! Flowers

How lovely OP. I can see why you’re so excited. There is 16 years between me and my oldest Dsis. It was like having 2 mums.
I had DS a month before my 40th birthday. He is the best present I could have wished for. My nickname for him the first time I felt him move was Babsy!

Pipandmum · 03/10/2019 20:10

Not pregnant now but had one at 42 and 43 and two teen stepkids who lived with us. Tricky to find activities/trips that would suit all but otherwise it was a big enough gap (13) that the older kids weren’t jealous of the younger (especially with a new wife).
My friend has a 15 year gap having her second at 41 after several miscarriages. It can be more if an uncle/aunt role than sibling. But congrats and hope things progress smoothly!

babsyB1978 · 03/10/2019 20:17

thanks everyone - and it so great to being able to share (without everyone here knowing) :) hehe small place

I am not that worry about my son, i think he will be thrilled about this, and since I have 8 sisters and brothers, now we will all have some kids that are the same age - so that will be amazing :)

its worst with my friend group, they have so often talked about "old moms" and how they don´t understand how they want to in that age and bla bla... hehe so it will be quite fun to tell them and watch their reaction ;)

My cousin and also my best friend both gave birth to their first dcs last year at 40 and 41! I was shocked because I wasn’t sure that either of them wanted children but very, very happy for them. They are doing great and I don’t think they seem like “old” mums at all (but maybe that’s coz I’m the same ageGrin)

Thople · 03/10/2019 20:23

This is lovely, congratulations! I had my DD at 40. Tiring but totally worth it.

BooseysMom · 03/10/2019 20:25

Congratulations! Flowers I was 3 months off 41 when i had DS. He's nearly six now. I wasn't able to have any more but he's a happy contented little soul and the light of our lives. Hope all goes well with your pregnancy x

Congratulations!
I am 15/16 years older than my brother and sister. I love them dearly. My mum was 41-42 when she had them, both born perfectly healthy (and still are).

nildesparandum · 03/10/2019 20:36

Congratulations to you
I had a work colleague who was born when her mother was 44.She thought she had started the menopause. Her mother had two daughters aged 20 and 22 at the time, one of whom was married and my friend became an aunt when she was 10 months old.
Her mother told her that only worry at the time was telling her two grown up daughters, as she was embarassed to have them know that she was still having sex.

Ilovewillow · 03/10/2019 20:44

How exciting, congratulations! Thanks. I had my son at 41, he is now 6 - I also have an 11 yr old daughter! Both of our children are via IVF so not a total surprise like your pregnancy! We did think twice re having a second but it has been great, if anything he keeps me young with a young outlook on life and albeit I'm more tired I don't feel 47 or an old mum particularly. Have a ball and enjoy every second!

SunsetOverEasterIsland · 03/10/2019 20:46

Congratulations! I had my only child (DS now 17) when I was 3 months short of my 42nd birthday. He has been an absolute joy, turned our lives upside down and inside out but wouldn't change a thing. We have a great relationship. Hope your little one brings you nothing but joy 💐

IndieTara · 03/10/2019 20:51

I had my only child when I was 42 (10 yrs ago )
Been a single parent for 7 yrs now. DD has her moments but we have a great dynamic and I'm so glad I had her

DeviousBrie · 03/10/2019 21:13

I'm six weeks pregnant, and would be 41 on due date. It's my #1, but I had 2 MCs last year so I'm taking a day at a time.
