I went in for what i thought was an early scan in a private hospital. Was scaned for only 5mins and told oh you are 25weeks.shocked of course. That means i got paged on my periods. My ex and I had sex on 9th march had my periods on 29th like clockwork lasted 1week.i ovulated in april around the 22nd to 25th.pushed my periods in april, had sex end of may, my periods came on clockwork again. I've been off contraceptives for 4 years and therapy so pretty sure how my cycle works. From then no periods. Ain't no way i got paged in march. The sonographer even said she can't be sure just measurements and since I'm big the baby might be big too so conceived later on even end of April or end may. Nhs insist on using the scan i did and moving on from there not listening to anything. I have not had pregnancy sysptoms until after the scan coz of worry. My pregnancy tests 1st of sept were all faint positives meaning HCG was very low.. Anyone had their scans really late??

How many weeks do you think you should be?

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 27/09/2019 12:06

I don't think that home pregnancy tests are effective in late pregnancy, so that might not mean that you're not 25 weeks pregnant.

And some people do have periods through pregnancy, I have a friend who didn't find out she was pregnant until she was five months gone because she'd had "normal" periods and not really gained visible weight.

I can imagine that it's quite a shock, though! Congratulations Thanks

PotteringAlong · 27/09/2019 12:07

You can have periods when you’re pregnant. Unusual, but it does happen.

If the sonographer thinks you’re 25 weeks then you are - she’s not going to have mistaken it for a 6 weeks old foetus.

Hullabaloo31 · 27/09/2019 12:13

The measurements would only be a few days out at most, it's pretty conclusive.

Ndenga1234 · 27/09/2019 12:18

20weeks at most.

@Hullabaloo31 heard of women who gave birth even two months later.

The baby has to be big. I was big and delayed 3weeks from my due date same as my siblings. However, sperm can't stay around for 21days waiting.

I can be 17-20weeks not arguing that at all. This baby is big and i realized last but 25weeks just doesn't cut it. That means sperm stayed 21days waiting on my egg

Yes heard of such cases people bleeding throughout. I ovulated in april though and in May as i keep track of that. Been doing that for 4years. According to my calculations all things considered i should be 20 weeks at most.

Hullabaloo31 · 27/09/2019 12:29

Surely sex on 9th March would make you right around 25 weeks?

hairyheadphones · 27/09/2019 12:30

There is a big difference in size between 29 and 25 weeks, scan dates can be off a few days but unlikely by so many weeks.

PotteringAlong · 27/09/2019 12:35

Your dates are not off by 7 weeks based on a scan; they’re just not.

ShowOfHands · 27/09/2019 12:37

Sex on 9th March would make op 30, nearly 31 weeks by my calculations.

ShowOfHands · 27/09/2019 12:41

The dates match when you ovulated in April. Are you sure you didn't have sex then?

SinkGirl · 27/09/2019 12:41

But if you conceived say 22nd april then 25 weeks would be about right?

Ndenga1234 · 27/09/2019 12:42

@showofhands absolutely right

Tippety · 27/09/2019 12:44

I'd be very, very surprised if they had got it that wrong. Less surprised if you are having trouble taking it in (understandable).

Ndenga1234 · 27/09/2019 12:47

@sinkgirl very correct. Next time from 9march was 29th april. 23rd sept was when they said 25weeks dating it back to April. 9th march only sex in march makes it even more weeks around 30 weeks so still which is which. April 29th is 20weeks.. So confused really.

If you are big then yes, unfortunately, she may not have been able to get a clear view of the baby as abdominal fat can interfere on an ultrasound - and the fact that she wasn’t sure herself suggests you may well be 20 weeks (my ultrasound then was hard to obtain too). Can you afford a private scan? If so go and buy one (a growth scan) as private providers tend to have better quality equipment and ask them for an estimate. If they say 20 weeks then you can go back to the mw and ask for a consultant appointment or a rescan.

JuniperNarni · 27/09/2019 12:52

There's quite a significant difference between a 17 week and a 25 week scan to measure that far off your baby would probably have to be a real life giant.

mistermagpie · 27/09/2019 12:53

I'm confused (as are you obviously), have you had an NHS scan? Or was this private?

mistermagpie · 27/09/2019 12:55

Sorry, I see you said private - have you spoken to an NHS midwife? Surely they would be referring you urgently for a scan?

I'm surprised they only scanned you for five minutes, I've had a few private scans in different pregnancies and private ones tend to be a bit longer (because you're paying I suppose?)

Ndenga1234 · 27/09/2019 12:57

@teddybear i actually have a really big tummy and weigh 99kgs so very big. She couldn't locate the baby at first finally found a heartbeat then the head. Locating the limbs was an issue she had to go round and round. Finally went like"everything is on the face". The picture they gave was very blurry too.

Either way if i date it back to march means atound 30weeks.i date it with april means 20weeks.either way not 25weeks. And this is where my confusion is at.

Teddybear45 · 27/09/2019 13:00

She has probably put you at 25 to be safe (mine did the same!) but Yes at 99kg a 20 week scan is very likely to go wrong! Was this a private scan or an NHS one? If private then you should demand a free rescan with a more experienced sonographer and if NHS you could go private (Ultrasound Direct is who I would trust).

Ndenga1234 · 27/09/2019 13:01

@mistermagpie just requested an appointment with them and waiting on dates. I was hurriedly rushed out of the room all i heard the nurse telling the sonographer was "let's protect ourselves in the results explanation" and immediately prepared the room for the next patient.

This was private. Window to the womb. If i knew i was this far ahead would have not missed 2 or 3scans by nhs already. So now just pushing them for the urgent scan and getting myself antenatal care.

OP posts:
Teddybear45 · 27/09/2019 13:06

Ok so wait for NHS. Seems Window to the couldn’t actually see the baby and in your case I would definitely be demanding a refund or a rescan with a more experienced sonographer. They should have called you back (Ultrasound Direct often called me back 3-5 times when they couldn’t see the baby properly - in my case it was snuggled into the womb bum out and refused to move until after 22 weeks).

Ndenga1234 · 27/09/2019 13:07

@teddybear45 could you shed light on what happened to yours? So i don't seem like I'm having a giant baby.
The sonographer also said while i was walking away, to be too sure i need to go to nhs have my blood work done and start off immediately with a MW. Which I've actioned. She said she would rather just give a well being report coz I'm further on and past intentions of the scan.

I left that place more confused than ever!
