My scan dates are totally off.

I went in for what i thought was an early scan in a private hospital. Was scaned for only 5mins and told oh you are 25weeks.shocked of course. That means i got paged on my periods. My ex and I had sex on 9th march had my periods on 29th like clockwork lasted 1week.i ovulated in april around the 22nd to 25th.pushed my periods in april, had sex end of may, my periods came on clockwork again. I've been off contraceptives for 4 years and therapy so pretty sure how my cycle works. From then no periods. Ain't no way i got paged in march. The sonographer even said she can't be sure just measurements and since I'm big the baby might be big too so conceived later on even end of April or end may. Nhs insist on using the scan i did and moving on from there not listening to anything. I have not had pregnancy sysptoms until after the scan coz of worry. My pregnancy tests 1st of sept were all faint positives meaning HCG was very low.. Anyone had their scans really late??

If you ovulated 25th April, that would put you at 24 weeks on 25th September. Very possible to be a week out as dating is more accurate in early pregnancy.

@sinkgirl this is it. I'm not really on early pregnancy I'm in the second trimester and hence why she said she can't be sure coz i went in very late. 25th April makes it 21weeks.which seems quite right all things considered evem ovulation. Ruling the may period implantation bleeding. Making the scan 3weeks out. 25weeks is exactly 1st of april.

9th march is 29weeks

At mine, initially, the baby was low almost along my hipline where I have a lot of fat (pearshaped) and neither the NHS nor Ultrasound direct could get clear images before 21 weeks. As the baby moved up then the images got clearer - the baby was marked as big at the 12 week scan (bigger than even my IVF dates) but Was in an awful position so unsure about size / NT tests couldn’t be completed. The NHS pushed my delivery date back as they couldn’t be sure, despite it being an IVF pregnancy, but clearly documented everything. 20 week scan was similar in terms of baby position and imagery so I went private and needed to be rescanned across another 1-2 weeks before the baby was in a position that allowed a clear image. Baby is now projected to he a normal size but my bump isn’t really growing as fast as anyone would like so there will be more growth scans in my future!

Remember they count your weeks from the first day of the period before you got pregnant OP, not when you actually got pregnant - perhaps that makes a difference to the dates? I conceived on the 9th of March funnily enough and they count me as 31 weeks, not 29.

OP you don’t seem sure- or maybe aren’t relaying it well- of when you had sex or how many weeks that would make you.

You say March conception would make you 30 weeks and April conception would make you 20 weeks. Well there aren’t 10 weeks between 9th of March and the end of April. But then you also said you didn’t have sex til end of May. But then later said end of April.

If the scan dated you 25 weeks on 23rd of September that makes your last period on 1st of April which ties in with you ovulating 22-25th March. Period would be around 7th of April. Conception around 21st of April. You had sex late April.

This^ is when you conceived.

@joxer sorry. Let me make it clear. I've had 2 periods in between. March come april and end of May period 27th may which shortly i also had sex. March 9th i had sex, march 29th my periods came lasted till April 8th.i ovulated, around April 25th and had sex April 29th,from then the next sex was may 27th, i mentioned this as my periods came again then.

I had my pregnancy tested on 1st sept with a faint positive. Infact 3 tests. Went for a private scan on the 23rd of this month told 25weeks.if they are using LMP and let's take the march period come April then I'd be 25weeks 2days,meaning sperm waited 21days.

If they use the may one,27th may makes it 17weeks and this is what I'm confused about. Both sides of the coin throw off the scan dates. If i go by march, still off even if i conceived immediately after sex makes it 30weeks.if let's say, they go with april, I'll be 20weeks,if they go with may I'm 17weeks.and this is what I'm not sure about and hence the doubt of the scan dates arose

@joxergoestostuggart just trying to catch up with you. Sorry forst pregnancy and confused still. Yes you are right my periods were on first April. I ovulated exactly when you have mentioned 25th march and 25th april. Period wasn't on 7th of april but actually finished around that time. Next ovulation 25th april. So still throws off the scan or I'm i still very naive with how all this is calculated

They’re not. They’re using the scan. With the measurements of the actual baby. You had sex on 29th of April- 4 days after ovulation and conceived. There’s really nothing confusing about it.

I'm a little confused on timelines,but I thought they'd be dating baby based on measurements and developmental observations from the scan, so it could be out by a week or so but not that substantially

Unless there’s a doubt over paternity it doesn’t actually matter- get your NHS scan and confirm your due date. That’s all you need to know really.

Yes 25 weeks. When they measure the baby they work out how old the foetus is since conception and then they add 2 weeks which in many women takes them back to the first day of the period before they conceived. OF course lots of women don’t get regular 28 day cycles so this date won’t always be accurate. But yes you’re 25 weeks and 4 days.

If you conceived 29th April you would be 24 weeks and 4 days. So the 25 week estimate is about right.

Forget LMP, take ovulation date plus 2 weeks and that is how far along you would be. I have an irregular cycle so can't use LMP but go from ovulation dates.

It sounds like the images weren't clear due to your body shape, but they probably aren't far off.
Why would you book an early scan if you're so sure you are 17-20 weeks?

Could you put up a scan picture for us to see?

I'm trying to follow and it sounds like you only found out you were pregnant beginning of September and booked a private scan.

Have you even had a booking in appt with the midwife yet.

If you've had a private scan expecting a 5/6 week pregnancy and seen a 25 week one that must be shocking.

Have you contacted your MW service in your area or the Early Pregnancy Unit at your maternity hospital?

They should want to see you ASAP to do your booking in and get a scan done so they can check baby out.

Thanks @roxer and code. I didn't know about the weeks added etc and hence the confusion. So may was basically implantation bleeding on not a period.

Also at @code.i took the pregnancy test 1st sept so i actually thought i was just a few weeks in coz no symptoms, was until this scan that now my head has been all over calculating, tracing back etc and obviously shockee. Now i can breathe and prepare to pack my bags real soon

Yes found out late and thought i was few weeks in.

Scanned later and boom, shocker of all shocks.

Contacted my GO yesterday as i was off work, referred me to midwife at Newham hospital waiting to get booked for a scan ASAP.

If it helps at all, I'm 25+2, due date 8th Jan. LMP 4th April, conceived around the weekend of the 19th April. Don't know when I was ovulating though.

If your living in the uk you should be put under a consultants care as your a late booking for ANC and if I'm correct they should really book you in for another scan to get a good idea of the gestation of baby to see if you can still be offered any tests or not for baby don't see why this isn't being done

Yes you conceived on April 29th, scan only has that as a few days out either way.
