Hi all I found out less than 1 week ago that im pregnant 😁 im almost 6 weeks and currently on holiday in Portugal and I'm already missing a nice cold beer in the sun.

Ive seen some shandy cans in lidl here which are 0.9% would i be ok drinking these and if so how many would you recommend?

Thanks in advance x

I wouldn't - it's still alcohol. I suppose one wouldn't hurt though

sashamichele · 20/09/2019 14:55

Shandy bass was my craving with my daughter there's hardly anything in them.

LiveInAHidingPlace · 20/09/2019 14:58

At 6 weeks, I wouldn't.

BeanBag7 · 20/09/2019 14:59

I wouldnt have an issue with having just one because the alcohol concent is so low. However, I would be just as happy with a cold fizzy drink like coke or alcohol free beer.

INeedNewShoes · 20/09/2019 15:02

Alcohol is more of an issue in the first trimester than later on in pregnancy but I don't think 1 shandy will be an issue.

I drank during pregnancy, but very small amounts in the first trimester
(half a small glass of wine occasionally) and later on never more than a glass of wine and that was with food.

PotteringAlong · 20/09/2019 15:03

Well you can drink whatever you like but it’s alcohol and I wouldn’t.

TrashKitten10 · 20/09/2019 15:05

Advice is not to drink at all during pregnancy but it's ultimately your body and your decision.

Cohle · 20/09/2019 15:05

I wouldn't, especially as you seem to be planning on having several.

INeedNewShoes · 20/09/2019 15:08

I've just googled and there's a very recent study (this year) with new evidence that no amount of alcohol is safe in pregnancy.

With this new information I don't think I would drink if I were to be pregnant again.

If you do decide to go with the shandy, definitely stick to 1 and have plenty of water after it.

PuffHuffle5 · 20/09/2019 15:11

If you’ll really enjoy it I think it’s fine - but I wouldn’t drink loads just because it’s low alcohol. To be honest you’re probably better off enjoying just 1 proper shandy with a beer of your choice when you’re out, or getting alcohol free beer.

MozzchopsThirty · 20/09/2019 15:16

I would but then I was pg when a little was deemed safe

20viona · 20/09/2019 15:19

I did and it was fine.

joblotbubble · 20/09/2019 15:21

Missing a nice beer in the sun isn't really a hardship though is it?

Itwontrainallthetime · 20/09/2019 15:22

I drank them when I was pregnant with my DD.

It was a little craving of mine they were lovely ice cold from the fridge. I use to drink the little bottles 0.5% I think they are. They now have the warnings on them about not drinking when pregnant but didn't have any thing on them when i was pregnant with my daughter, shes nearly 8 and is fine. But it's your decision and only a little alcohol in them.

Lemoneeza · 20/09/2019 15:23

have one, drink it slowly and with a meal.

maryberryslayers · 20/09/2019 15:41

Of course it's not ok, the advice is not to drink any alcohol in pregnancy. It's obviously your decision though.

Bcnamechanger · 20/09/2019 15:54

Just buy alcohol free lager. Heineken blue is 0% isn't bad and you can sometimes get it on draught - is big in southern Spain. Superbock and sagres both do alcohol free (sem alcool) - think the latter is 0.3% rather than 0.0 but you'd have to drink c.17 pints of the stuff to ingest the same amount of alcohol as is in a pint of 5% lager. You can always make it into shandy!

89redballoons · 20/09/2019 17:29

Is it the alcohol you're missing, or the taste/the "feeling" that you're drinking a beer with everyone else?

If the latter, I've been drinking alcohol-free beer with a lemonade top in pubs this summer, and finding it lovely and refreshing. It also makes me feel on some level like I'm not missing out too much if the people I'm with are having a few pints.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 20/09/2019 17:30

How many would you like to down?

MyDcAreMarvel · 20/09/2019 17:31

There a plenty of non alcoholic drinks, just stick to those.

sodrained · 20/09/2019 17:33

I thought the issue with alcohol in pregnancy is more in the later stages where it can cross into the placenta at this stage the baby isn't connected to it ?

Starlight84 · 20/09/2019 17:44

www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/alcohol-medicines-drugs-pregnant/

Safest advice is to stick to no alcohol reading this. Definitely no more than a unit. If you think one may lead to wanting another then don’t. I was taking alcohol free strawberry and lime ciders to bbq’s!

I found out I was pregnant beginning of may and i felt incredibly guilty I had a weekend of copious amounts of alcohol before I found out a week later. My birthday was end of may and no one knew so was bought lots of gin! I also face Xmas and new year as due a section beginning of Jan! I will however have a small glass of Asti with Xmas dinner but again that’s my choice and I know it will only be the one.

Ultimately it’s your body. Your pregnancy. Your decision. I could survive a holiday in the sun drinking mocktails, cock or alcohol free though x

Starlight84 · 20/09/2019 17:45

Haha definitely drinking coke and not cock! 🙈🙈🙈

doadeer · 20/09/2019 17:48

I would have had one with food but each to their own. At the end of the pregnancy I had a glass of champagne twice. But I understans people who abstain.

AwdBovril · 20/09/2019 17:53

Can you get alcohol free lager & make your own?
