Hi all I found out less than 1 week ago that im pregnant 😁 im almost 6 weeks and currently on holiday in Portugal and I'm already missing a nice cold beer in the sun.

Ive seen some shandy cans in lidl here which are 0.9% would i be ok drinking these and if so how many would you recommend?

Thanks in advance x

Alcohol free beer is really good nowadays so I'd just go for one of those if I were you. But I'm not you and at the end of the day it's your body, your baby and your choice.

We've all heard about mums who didn't know they're pregnant, drank loads and baby is fine.

You know you're pregnant, and the advice is not to drink (also check the food you're not supposed to have, like uncooked meat) - I think the risk of actually harming your baby is realistically with a shandy is quite low, but then again, it's there -- and if anything does turn out to be a problem, you might end up blaming yourself (even if it wasn't related to the alcohol, but how would you know).

Anyway, my advice to you would be - try an alcohol free option as your first step into accepting that pregnancy/having a child means responsibility and new restrictions for yourself, enjoy your holiday and look forward to next year when you have an adorable baby in your arms and a cold beer on the table!

Congratulations on the pregnancy btw!

Me too @sodrained

As far as I know the new advice has come about because there is no evidence or study to confirm it can be safe - not because it has been proven to cause harm. I doubt one shandy will cause any problems.

Thanks everyone....i'll stay clear of the shandys. I looked at the non alcoholic Superbock bottles which is the portugese beer and they're 0.5% so not a massive difference to the shandys so i'm just going to stick to fanta 😁

Orange juice can contain up to 0.5% alcohol (the same level as lots of beer which is described as alcohol free - Erdinger for example). I presume all the "absolutely no alcohol" crew also abstain from the orange stuff during pregnancy?

Dear lord!

I'd have one OP. Anything below 1% contains barely any alcohol, so unless you are drinking gallons of it, and on a regular basis, then it's really not the issue that 75% of Mumsnet would have you believe.
