November babies - getting close now...

Thought I'd post another November babies thread as I haven't seen one in ages. I'll be 31 weeks tomorrow and it's starting to feel very real now! Not that the crazy heartburn and ever expanding bump wasn't enough of a reminder... anyone else due in November and want to chat?

I've seen a few posts about baby weight - I don't get a scan at 32 weeks and from the sounds of it won't get one at 34 weeks either as it's the doctor's not the hospital. They've only been doing the tape measurement, so would it be if that fluctuates that it automatically triggers a growth scan?
Do you only get growth scans if you have certain pre-existing conditions or meet certain criteria?
This is my first and at the moment I'm deemed low risk and due to give birth at the midwife led unit.

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 08/10/2019 17:31

@cakeordeath89 yes. In my case I'm having growth scans because I have a high BMI and am much more likely to have a very big baby.

MrBobLobLaw · 08/10/2019 18:11

@cakeordeath89 I know at Kings college hospital (where I'm having DS2) they do a 36 week one as standard, I have no other issues in my pregnancy and we had one with my first son too. But I know it's not usual to have an extra one now.

@smartcarnotsosmartdriver blimey! That does sound big! Did they say anything about inducing early etc?

They said baby was bigger than average but still within the normal range, and tbh whilst 9lb is a big baby I have heard of much bigger and I still had a natural delivery with DS1 so I know I can do it!

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 08/10/2019 18:14

@MrBobLobLaw I have another scan on the 18th and then a meeting with a consultant on the 24th where I'll be told my options and decide what to do for the best. I'm just worried he'll get hurt on his way out.

leomama81 · 08/10/2019 21:00

@cakeordeath89 I've had more because I went to a Zika area (accidentally, pregnancy wasn't planned and I didn't know) and also I'm now having another one tomorrow at 32 +6 because at the 28 week one he had a big stomach measurement! They tested me for GD but I don't have it so just a big baby.

He was estimated at 3.3 pounds at 28 weeks which does seem to be quite a bit heavier than a lot of others I've seen! So I am a bit worried (although I am having a c-section due to placenta previa so I don't have to push him out!) probably a good thing as if that's right and it's then half a pound a week he's headed for 9 +!! 😳😳😳

MrBobLobLaw · 09/10/2019 09:00

Sounds like you're in the best hands @smartcarnotsosmartdriver and they'll always prioritise yours and baby's welfare so don't worry. The frustrating thing is the weights are just an estimate anyway but I suppose they have to go off some sort of data!

MrBobLobLaw · 09/10/2019 09:06

Just need a little moan.. I'm so so tired!!

I have a DS who is turning 2 on Friday and I look after him full time (no childcare or nursery) so I spend my days chasing after him or tiring him out at playgroup. I'm also still working and work for myself so I often have to work through his nap times and once he's gone to bed, on top of keeping our place clean and tidy and doing the washing we're also buying a flat and moving in the next few weeks so I'm juggling calls and emails from the solicitors etc to try and get it all sorted in time.

DP is amazing and does so much but he's also having to work 6 days a week at the moment so even on the weekend neither of us get a break!

I miss my pregnancy with DS when I could nap/eat/watch tv/go out whenever I liked and actually enjoy being pregnant. I've been so lucky to have an easy pregnancy and that baby is healthy and happy, I really am so grateful for that. But the poor guy has been so overlooked! We haven't even had time to talk about names/do any 'baby stuff' like sort out the cot or clothes or anything.

We have no family close by and all my friends work full time so can't really help out during the day so I know I just have to keep going but oh man.. I need a break!!

Hayesdays · 09/10/2019 09:47

sorry to hear your feeling low @MrBobLobLaw sounds like you're super woman juggling everything that you are! I'm struggling just to look after myself and the dog!

Maybe you could try planning a date night with DP, even if it's just a home cooked meal together when DS is in bed, and spend some time talking together about the baby?

I'm a bit of a geek and like to send my DH a calendar invite on his phone when I've got something I want to do or talk about with him. That way he knows it's on my mind and will make sure he makes time for it.

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 09/10/2019 19:24

@MrBobLobLaw I can't imagine how stressful all that is. I have no other kids and I'm not moving house and I'm still probably more anxious about things than I've ever been in my life. Try to carve out a little time even just 30 mins with DP to have a chat about baby? My DH works really awful shifts and I feel like I hardly see him. It's harder to go through a pregnancy without the support you need.

leomama81 · 09/10/2019 21:12

@MrBobLobLaw I'm not surprised you are feeling overwhelmed and exhausted, I have nothing but admiration for how much you are managing to cope with! I'm on my knees and I don't have other kids (no DP either but actually that's not the hindrance you might think ;) and blimey - moving house too! When is that actually going to happen? Also think the calendar invite is a good idea!

@smartcarnotsosmartdriver I had another scan today (32+6) and he's estimated 5lb 9oz so not that far behind you! Are they suggesting inducing you then?

I've already done a glucose challenge test which came back fine but they want me back again how for the tolerance one with fasting, just in case I have GD. Not really quite sure what the implications would be of that...

newnameforthisonetonight · 09/10/2019 21:38

@leomama81 at the moment the suggestion from my midwife was induction at term but I think it depends how big he keeps getting, my next growth scan is a week on Friday (34 + 2). I've had 2 glucose tolerance tests now. Both with fasting, both absolutely fine. They've also said that if he keeps measuring big they'll send me for another 😒.
I am however very anxious about delivery for a very big baby. I'm (very) overweight as it is which can lead to him getting stuck and then him being big can make him more likely to get stuck so I think it's not purely him being big that would make an induction more likely but also my feelings towards it all.

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 09/10/2019 21:39

Name change fail there...

MrBobLobLaw · 09/10/2019 22:50

Thank you everyone honestly felt better just typing it all out.. and then I had a really good day as my friend came over and took my son to the park for an hour and I got to actually get ready for work at a normal pace and eat food without giving him half. What a difference it makes! I also got a really good job in (my work is kind of gig based) for tomorrow morning so.. despite only being on the train home now and my next gig starting at 9am tomorrow morning- I am actually feeling pretty good!

Deffo am going to schedule in a baby talk with DP. I think we both need it! We have to rattle through house and moving stuff and then spend the obligatory 45 mins looking at photos of our son and talking about him ha and then we're both asleep by then! So I think saying 'right- let's actually discuss this baby later' is a good idea, otherwise we'll both just forget/talk about other stuff.

@leomama81 I can really imagine not having a DP there can have it upsides!! Do you have other support around you too? Sorry I haven't been that active on the threads so apologies if you've been through all of that before.

brighteye3986 · 10/10/2019 21:35

Just catching up on all the posts and have seen quite a few about baby's weight... I was diagnosed with GD at 27 weeks and had regular growth scans from 28 weeks. At 28 weeks baby was estimated to be 3lbs 13. At 32 weeks he was estimated at 5lb 5 and at 35 weeks 7lb 1. As at 35 weeks he was measuring above 95th centile, my trust advised on a c section at 36 weeks to ensure safe delivery and to be able to control the labour and reduce complications. This wasn't what I wanted but I wanted the safest option for my baby. I had my c section on Tuesday at 36+1 and baby weighed 7lb 1- a week after being estimated to be this weight! I have also seen someone else who had a scan at 36+3 with an estimated weight of 7lb 3 but gave birth at 36+6 naturally and baby was 8lb 11.

The scans are clearly not accurate for everyone but I do believe that the staff looking after you will advise on the best course of action to ensure that there are minimum complications in delivery. They carry out these scans to have a guideline of baby's size and can advise and prepare for the best/ worse case scenario.

leomama81 · 10/10/2019 23:51

@smartcarnotsosmartdriver I'm having a c-section anyway but I am wondering whether they might bring it forward - that is interesting that they did that with you @brighteye3986. But no one has mentioned it, nor said I need to see a consultant. Also you are right brighteye, I have heard a lot of stories about them being wrong on the measurements.

Glad you are feeling a bit better @MrBobLobLaw. Do get that chat in! I do have lots of good support, thanks for asking, my family and friends are being amazing, I've had either my mum or my brother with me at pretty much every appointment and my mum is going to stay with me for a while over the birth and has offered a lot of help with childcare too. I feel very lucky - helps that it is the first grandchild too (and I'm 38 so they've had quite the wait) so they are super excited!

brighteye3986 · 11/10/2019 04:20

@leomama81 I was under consultant care and was originally advised they were going to deliver him between 34 and 36 weeks but then his growth slowed but only due to insulin and metformin. I think the insulin paid factor to the overall decision too. When I went for my pre op, the factors for a c section were and IVF pregnancy, GDM and baby measuring large for gestational age. Every trust and every consultant has their own way of working. There are other people I know who are being monitored and will be induced at 40 weeks if baby isn't here before then and some of our measurements were similar.

leomama81 · 11/10/2019 20:50

Thanks @brighteye3986, that's useful information. Glad it all turned out well for you in the end even if your LO is a bit littler than expected!

ruralcat · 12/10/2019 14:12

At my 36 week scan baby was estimated at about 5lbs8. I'm worried she'll be quite small though as two of the measurements were weeks under but she does have a big stomach which I think boosted the weight estimate up. Some predictions seem quite accurate but others are really off so who knows.

Missbdhfc · 12/10/2019 15:11

@ruralcat ditto - exact same weight. Couldn't measure the head as it was too deep. Have been fretting over femur length which is only 63.8 mm

BeedlesPineNeedles · 12/10/2019 15:28

Congratulations on your little one @brighteye3986, although 7lb isn't massive presumably the baby could have grown a fair bit in another 4 weeks. Hope you're recovering well.

No growth scans here but I did have a scan at 28 weeks as I'd had a tiny bit of bleeding, they couldn't find a cause hut it was nice to see the baby again!

I've finally had my planned CS agreed (there's no right to choose where I live - Not UK) so hopefully I should get told the date in a week or 2, though it won't be until the end of Nov so still a while to go. Probably a good thing as we still haven't done much to prepare! Though as it's dc2 we have most of what we need!

Hayesdays · 14/10/2019 10:40

Morning all!
How's everyone getting on?

Approaching 34 weeks here and I feel like the pregnancy waddle is developing nicely! Starting to struggle with sleep now too, I can fall asleep easily still but seem to wake up early in the morning for no particular reason.

Sounds like a few of you are having planned C-sections. When is the first one booked for? Can't wait to start seeing some birth announcements on here :)

Rotorua · 14/10/2019 11:23

@Hayesdays The same here with the waddle. I'm 36 weeks now, but think I developed it more than a month ago. Was in denial for a while and kept telling DH he is imagining it, but then saw my reflection in a shop window and couldn't deny it anymore:D
I also keep struggling with sleep recently. I go to sleep around midnight and still wake up around the time when I woke up for work.

Has anyone had any problems with teeth during pregnancy?
I have been feeling so down last week because of tooth problems. Had a filling fall out, then a dentist fixed it, but it only lasted for a day and the tooth fractured, so had to extract half of the tooth and have a temporary filling till the baby is born. Hopefully the filling lasts till then, I'm not looking forward to seeing the dentist any time soon.

Weathergirl1 · 14/10/2019 13:42

@Rotorua not teeth problems related to pregnancy, but went to the dentist on Friday and had a wisdom tooth out... also got told off for using Corsodyl mouthwash Blush

I think I've been quite lucky so far with symptoms, but last night I noticed that my right foot and ankle were swollen - left foot is completely normal. I now feel like some sort of lopsided freak Sad

GetTheSprinkles · 14/10/2019 13:50

36w here and wanted to join you ladies!! FTM and fortunate to have had a really straight forward pregnancy so far. This is my last week at work and actually feeling surprisingly well. I locum so didnt want to book further along in case I let someone down.
My sleep is good except for the inevitable 4am wee- not helped by the fact that the toilet is the other side of the house :/
So far no Braxton Hicks, no 'lightening crotch' (still not really sure what this is😂) & dont feel 9 months preggo at all. Have a feeling this little man may arrive late...

I did have some dental issues a few weeks ago- developed an infection in a wisdom tooth. Dentist suggested salt water rinses, corsodyl (but for a max of one week only- otherwise apparently it stains teeth 🤷‍♀️), paracetamol and gave me a script for Penicillin but thankfully I didnt end up needing it.
Moving house next week so can Finally start nesting then- woop woop!

Hayesdays · 14/10/2019 14:16

@Rotorua haha your shop window story made me chuckle!

@Weathergirl1 I hope your swelling goes down, must be difficult to choose appropriate footwear!?

Hello @GetTheSprinkles I've also not experienced any Braxton Hicks yet but defo have had the lightening crotch - you'll know exactly what it is if/when you get it! Good luck with the house move, hope it goes smoothly.

I've still got 4 long weeks left at work... really struggling now to keep motivated. Feeling fine in myself, haven't had a migraine for a week now, it's just difficult continuing with the day to day workload when my brain keeps thinking 'oh well it doesn't matter, I won't be here in 4 weeks to care'...not a good work ethos!
