Thought I'd post another November babies thread as I haven't seen one in ages. I'll be 31 weeks tomorrow and it's starting to feel very real now! Not that the crazy heartburn and ever expanding bump wasn't enough of a reminder... anyone else due in November and want to chat?

Ooh had to really scroll to find this again as it's been quite for a couple of days! How is everyone doing?

Hope those who've had ELCS so far are doing well. I've just had my pre-op appointment this afternoon. We've been through pain relief options - I can't have NSAIDs as they're contraindicated for a pre-existing health issue I have so it looks like they might give me codeine to supplement paracetamol if I need it - also means I avoid a suppository up the bum in theatre as that's ibuprofen (I'm not disappointed with that!). I'm 2nd on the list for the afternoon and a bit anxious about lack of food since 6am - I do not cope with no food very well at all. Apparently I'm allowed clear fluids until 10am, which includes sports drink, so I can keep calories going into me, but that's still 4 hours with no fluids, and given how thirsty I am at the moment (still dribbling amniotic fluid...) I'm really not sure how this is going to pan out - erk! I remember seeing on one of the other threads a couple of weeks ago that someone said she ended up with IV glucose because she'd not eaten since midnight and didn't end up in theatre until late afternoon and was practically passing out by then...

leomama81 · 05/11/2019 21:49

Hello @Weathergirl1! What day is your section then? I hope you don't end up having to wait too long, so that's no water or anything? I guess they must have to take that into account and give you a saline drip if you are getting dehydrated?

I am fine just waiting now, a bit bored on mat leave and have terrible back pain so can't do much either, now and then I feel like things are starting to happen as I'm still having false labour contractions on and off but then they subside...

How is everyone else?

Weathergirl1 · 06/11/2019 03:44

@leomama81 tomorrow (Thursday)!! eeek! I guess so - will be speaking with the anaesthetist when we get there on Thursday. I'm really not good with needles and cannulas though - had to have a cannula for an operation on my nose about 5 years ago and couldn't bear to look at the damn thing so had to cover it with a pillow which was fine (well as fine as it could be) given I was laid down on a bed, but waiting around to go into theatre isn't likely to be like that if they want to put me on a drip... eeek

Ooh when's your EDD (it's sooner than mine was I think)? Things starting to get started sounds a bit promising!

Morning all!
So our darling daughter decided she wanted to join the party (literally) on Sunday morning, at 36 +2 weeks.

Quite possibly the scariest and most amazing night of my life. I woke at 2am on the 3rd with mild tummy ache and feeling a bit wet below. Got up and made it to the loo where I saw a lot of blood which scared me half to death. I now know it was a very bloody show mixed with my waters going, I didn’t know this could be a thing, hence sharing! We then rushed off to hospital fearing the worst. Cutting a long story short, the hospital confirmed I was in labour and that the baby was still breech and recommended I had a caesarean. Our healthy baby girl was born later that morning and we couldn’t be more in love. Being slightly premature meant we had to have a bit of extra care but she is doing well and we were discharged from hospital yesterday evening. It’s lovely to be home.

Hope everyone else is doing well. Good luck with your birth tomorrow @Weathergirl1 I was in awe with the amazing surgeons and care I received and hope you’re experience is as positive as mine. Feeling very lucky to have our amazing NHS ❤️

Dramaofallama · 06/11/2019 06:13

Congratulations Hayesdays on your daughter, I am so glad it worked out well for you and you are all doing well.

Some babies are just born to make an entrance in this world Grin

Enjoy your time at home with your baby.

Unsureursula · 06/11/2019 06:34

Congrats @Hayesdays!!
@Weathergirl1 best of luck for today!
Our little girl is 8 days old today- can’t believe it although it feels like she’s meant to be here!
Agree that the NHS is fantastic- I had such a positive experience from triage, to theatre, to recovery and the ward. It has honestly restored my faith in medics! I found the first two days really tough in terms of the catheter and then trying to get moving but since then the pain has of course been there but it’s manageable. So basically don’t be hard on yourself if the first couple of days are really tough Smile

Weathergirl1 · 06/11/2019 08:55

Ah congratulations @Hayesdays and glad that you're home now and all is well. I feel better that I'm not the only one with a baby who hasn't read the instructions/calendar properly!

ruralcat · 06/11/2019 11:10

Our little girl is also 8 days old today, she's still nameless at the moment.
Congratulations @Hayesdays and good luck for tomorrow @Weathergirl1

leomama81 · 06/11/2019 11:40

Congratulations @Hayesdays and good luck for tomorrow @Weathergirl1! I'm scheduled for the 25th so still a while, theoretically at least!

Totally with you on canulas - yep just don't look at it if you can help it! It will be over before you know it and you will have your beautiful baby! ThanksThanks

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 06/11/2019 12:04

Congratulations @Hayesdays!
Good luck @Weathergirl1!
It's all going on now! I'm 37 weeks today and completely over being rhesus negative. Back up to the hospital at some point today for more blood tests and possibly more anti d.

Missbdhfc · 06/11/2019 12:38

My little pudding Alma was born in 24/10 at 5lb15oz via induction at 38 weeks xxx

leomama81 · 06/11/2019 19:05

Oh she is gorgeous @Missbdhfc

Hope all has gone well at the hospital @smartcarnotsosmartdriver

Dramaofallama · 06/11/2019 19:57

Missbdhfc
Aww she is stunning, big congratulations Smile

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 07/11/2019 07:43

@Missbdhfc she's lovely, congratulations.

Thanks @leomama81 everything's fine, blood test ran to see if I need more anti d. I'm back at the hospital on Friday morning for a growth scan so if I do they've said it's fine to get it then so I don't need to make another trip. They struggled to get flood from me though so I'm sporting quite a few bruises today.

leomama81 · 07/11/2019 15:30

Glad it all went well @smartcarnotsosmartdriver. I sympathize on the blood tests, you can end up feeling a bit like a pin cushion in pregnancy can't you?!!

Weathergirl1 · 08/11/2019 07:07

@smartcarnotsosmartdriver I empathise on the pin cushion thing... They had to take bloods from the back of my hand last night 😱 glad to hear that everything is ok 👍

Baby Alastair was born at 4:03 yesterday afternoon weighing 8lb8 - he was properly stuck in the Frank breech position and took a bit of time to get his legs down from around his ears! His head was Firmly wedged in my ribs too - and is a little mishapen, but I'm sure it will correct itself. I'm ok, but my blood pressure took a bit of a dive when we left theatre so felt pretty out of it. Very glad I had the colostrum pre harvested - he's taking that well but not quite managed a successful latch.

Hayesdays · 08/11/2019 08:09

Aww lovely news @Weathergirl1 congratulations!
These frank breech babies of ours are all fun and games hey! My little girls legs relaxed down after about 24 hours, the midwives kept swaddling her which I think helped. Brace yourself for the hip tests (if he hasn’t already had it) it looks pretty brutal.
I hope you’re recovering well, day 1 & 2 were the hardest for me. But I felt very supported by the midwives etc so I recommend asking for help if you feel you need it 😊

Congratulations @Missbdhfc Too! I hope you’re both doing really well?

How come you’re having problems with blood type @smartcarnotsosmartdriver ? I had my anti D after baby was born. Surgeon was quite excited to have a B- on the table apparently he doesn’t see very many haha!

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 08/11/2019 09:01

@Weathergirl1 congratulations! My sister had a rib cage shaped head and she looks perfectly normal these days.

I've had most of my blood tests taken from my hand with no drama using the wee butterfly thingy but this time they were determined to use my arm so tried a few times then gave up and whacked a huge needle in the back of my hand. Ouch,

@Hayesdays the standard plan up here is anti d at 28 weeks but also any time I have any kind of bleed they need to test for anti bodies and decide if I need a top up. No idea why, I think they just like making holes in me.

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 08/11/2019 13:19

Final growth scan today, he's officially massive in my opinion. 9lb 12oz at 37 weeks. I've decided I'm definitely going for an ELCS he could be 11/12lbs by his date and I just don't think that sounds like a great idea.

leomama81 · 08/11/2019 18:17

Sounds like a good plan @smartcarnotsosmartdriver!

Mine is putting in an early appearance it seems, was admitted to hospital last night with contractions, they're going to do my c-section now as he's big already and they don't want me to get too advanced. It was going to be this afternoon but it's been pushed to tomorrow morning due to emergencies. Things are quite stable and they've got me on some decent pain relief though if i suddenly progress a lot overnight then they'll rush me in.

Looking forward to introducing him soon!

leomama81 · 08/11/2019 18:18

And massive congratulations @Weathergirl1 - enjoy your little bundle! X

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 08/11/2019 18:59

Exciting @leomama81! Glad they're looking after you. Looking forward to your update.

Weathergirl1 · 09/11/2019 00:11

Ooh exciting @leomama81 ! Hope it isn't too stressful.

We're doing ok but looks like my hope of getting out ASAP has come to nothing... We were delayed leaving recovery last night as the antenatal ward is chocca bloc so I didn't get my white rice at the right time. then my paracetamol was late overnight and I ended up with terrible gas pains in my shoulder and ribs. Then next pain meds were also late and it was excruciating - and messed up my eating and catheter removal. Having now been sick several times I'm back on a drip with a new cannula to rehydrate me.

@smartcarnotsosmartdriver that sounds sensible.i found I felt my much more positive of concerns I'd had about ELCS when the decision to have one was taken away due to circumstances 👍

Weathergirl1 · 11/11/2019 11:03

Tip for those having C-sections - get a strap to loop over the end of the bed so you can pull yourself up by your arms without activating your Abs. Yoga strap or webbing strap (sort you use on roof racks!) does a great job. Loads of the midwives have said 'ooh that's a good idea' when they've seen me use it!

Hayesdays · 11/11/2019 11:16

Ooo @Weathergirl1 that is a great idea! That’s what I really struggled with.
