Positive test 6 weeks after birth

Hi everyone,

I can't really believe I'm posting this. I got a faint positive pregnancy test this morning after being tempted to test because of symptoms and having had unprotected sex. I gave birth via c-section 5 1/2 weeks ago (6 weeks on Friday).

What I am wondering is if this is a new pregnancy or leftover hormones from my pervious pregnancy? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks x

Oh goodness, I don't think it will be leftover hormones...

I'd get to your GP ASAP, just because it might cause a problem as you've just had a c-section and won't have fully healed yet.

Oh OP, I hope it all works out!

mylifenow27 · 09/09/2019 11:20

Try not to worry too much I'm in the same boat apart from I didn't realise till what the midwife thinks is 16 weeks!! My little one is only 18 weeks. I'm having a scan tomorrow to check.

I also had a c section the midwife assured me that although there is risks problems are very rare. But another c section will be performed.

Hope this helps xx

Google says that HGC hormones disappear after about 3 weeks might be worth a trip to gp.

chuttypicks · 09/09/2019 11:43

You're pregnant again op.

Sidge · 09/09/2019 12:12

You are pregnant.

You don’t get leftover HCG after the birth.

Sidge · 09/09/2019 12:14

Well not for 5-6 weeks I mean.

ArthurMorgan · 09/09/2019 12:21

Good luck op!

Bol87 · 09/09/2019 12:45

Oh goodness, I think you are probably pregnant again! I’m sure all the hormones drop like a stone post birth, hence why for me as a HG suffer, it immediately stops upon birth!

Good luck OP

Starlight456 · 09/09/2019 12:47

You are very fertile after birth . Sure it will be a shock to you .

lunamoon1 · 09/09/2019 13:13

Thank you for your replies! I keep looking at the test, which is soo faint. But with a test, any line at all is positive, right? I used a FRER. I'm going to test again tomorrow and take it from there..

@mylifenow27 congratulations! keep me posted on your progress, hope all is well with your scan

I was just as shocked as you are! Even more so when the midwife said she thinks I'm 16 weeks! It's just sinking in now. Confused

rj995 · 09/09/2019 13:35

This is my test. What do you all think? Had to access my old account to be able to post it - hence the difference user name , sorry to confuse!

Looks positive OP

CmdrCressidaDuck · 09/09/2019 13:37

Yeah that appears to be a faint positive. You're pregnant. How do you feel?

lunamoon1 · 09/09/2019 13:44

Delighted... If it is for real... but I don't want to get ahead of myself just yet!

Looks like a positive test to me. Maybe call to the shops and get a clear blue for the morning and know for sure?

FrappeLatte · 09/09/2019 13:51

I can see a shadow of a line. Looks like you’re pregnant OP Flowers

lunamoon1 · 09/09/2019 13:57

I know, it's so faint I'm not sure what to think for sure. It wasn't FMU tho.

I have @mclb so hopefully will know more tomorrow..

@lunamoon1 keep us posted! Hope you get the result you want Smile

TokyoSushi · 09/09/2019 14:15

I'd say that's positive, how exciting!

happychange · 09/09/2019 19:46

Definitely positive op! Congrats!

BottomleyPottsSpots2 · 09/09/2019 21:48

This will sound like a daft question, but did you pee on the stick or use a cup you've previously used for pregnancy testing? My friend accidentally convinced herself she was pregnant because she re-used a cup that she'd peed in during her previous pregnancy ... presumably there was some residual hcg left.

I know it's very unlikely to be the explanation but I just wanted to put it out there to rule it out completely.

lunamoon1 · 10/09/2019 07:21

Thank you everyone. I tested early this morning with a Clear Blue early detection and it was negative unfortunately. Now even more unsure than I was yesterday of what's going on.

@BottomleyPottsSpots2 no I just use the urine stream inside of a pot, thank you for the suggestion tho!

Managed to get a FRER and got this, very similar line to yesterday with no progression, maybe just some leftover hormones floating around in my body from previous?
