All I seem to read is people who have put on 6lb by the third trimester and stuff, which is fine I suppose, but is there anyone else out there who has put on a huge amount of weight?

I started off underweight so midwife isn't concerned but at nearly 28 weeks I have put on 30lb!! I was the same in my first pregnancy, put on a bit less in the second one and lost it all both times, but still... it's a lot isn't it? Blush

I'm 29 weeks and have put on 12kgs Blush with my first I only put on 5kg throughout the whole pregnancy!

MarbleCake · 06/09/2019 12:30

Yeah quite a bit.
I don't even wanna know how much I've gained!

KatieMurr · 06/09/2019 12:44

I'm nearly 26 weeks and I have put on 5 and a half pounds which I am ok with. It'll be interesting to see how much more I will put on heading towards the 3rd trimester

Blueuggboots · 06/09/2019 12:46

I put 4 and a half stone on! I got back in my pre-pregnancy clothes 9 months after my son was born by following slimming world from when he was 3 months old.

LittleAndOften · 06/09/2019 12:49

Yep, lots. I'm trying not to think about it and concentrating on tracking my food. I spent so long eating white carbs as I felt so sick in the first 2 trimesters, it's obviously caught up with me. I'm trying not to be hard on myself and just focusing on the fact that in 9 weeks I won't have a little monster inside demanding food and can take back control! It's really hard though. Especially when you feel exhausted and hungry all the time.

RollingRedHills · 06/09/2019 12:50

I put on two and a half stone during my pregnancy and it was all gone 4 weeks after birth with zero effort. A lot of it is water, don't worry just eat relatively healthily and stay active. I wouldn't obsess over weight gain unless it's a medical issue it all melts off once the baby arrives (and you have no time to eat).

mistermagpie · 06/09/2019 12:59

Katie, no offence but you're not really who I was hoping to hear from.

23 weeks and have put on two stone 😱 put on five with my ds and I was really hoping to avoid that this time. Doesn’t look like I will though

mistermagpie · 06/09/2019 13:05

I suppose I'm feeling quite down about it. I've been really unwell this pregnancy (not pregnancy related apart from the first trimester) and have been comfort eating. I put on four stone with DS1 but weighed less at his first birthday party than I did before I was pregnant, but I'm just annoyed I've put myself here again.

Hi OP your weight gain seems fine! I put on maybe 32lb overall. I put weight on weekly until maybe 35/36 weeks. I think I actually lost a couple of lb in the last two weeks - fluid maybe. I lost 14lb within the first couple of days and after a week had lost 25lb and was back in my regular clothes. I’m now 3.5 weeks PP and have 7lb or so to lose to be back to my pre pregnancy weight. Tbf I haven’t tried to lose it yet and due to visitors etc am eatting a lot of buns and cake. I assume the rest was all attributable to the baby and associated weight. The last half stone was down to my increased appetite and sweet tooth during pregnancy. Like you I worried I was putting on too much weight as lots had only minor gains but now at least I know it was obviously fine and normal for me

lookingatthings · 06/09/2019 13:11

I gain 20lbs. I was ravenous All. The. Time. I'm 5m pp now, ebf, and haven't lost a single lbs. But I haven't gained any more either. I read somewhere that my breast tissue alone (I'm now a 38GG, used to be 34E) weighs 15-20 lbs so I'm holding on to that idea.

I'm not overly fussed though. After all my body made, and has kept alive, an entire human.

RealMermaid · 06/09/2019 14:48

I don't have scales in the house so have avoided the temptation to weigh myself but I know it will be a lot! I'm normally pretty small and a bit worried about losing the weight. But I've never been this hungry in my life! I am absolutely amazed at how much I can eat at the moment (20 weeks), as is my husband lol... I've got a fair sized bump already and my boobs are a lot bigger so I'm just hoping a lot of it is that, but I'm probably better off not knowing how much I've put on so far...

mistermagpie · 06/09/2019 15:59

You've got the right idea. I had avoided the scales until last night and now I feel like a whale!

OP posts:
LittleAndOften · 06/09/2019 16:11

The mw put me on the scales after measuring my bump. Otherwise I'd have had no idea!

amehh · 06/09/2019 16:27

32 weeks and I've gained 27lbs which I've come to peace with EXCEPT the weeks that I'm inexplicably gaining 2lb per week - um what?! I was a lot heavier in my first pregnancy and gained more than this so I'm not worried but it has been really hard seeing the scales go up. I've gone from daily weighing to weekly as the gains are just baffling to me.

Looking forward to getting back to my usual self!

VapeVamp12 · 06/09/2019 16:52

On the BabyCentre app there was an article about weight gain, I think if you're slim or underweight you will tend to put on a fair bit more than someone who is overweight for example.

My slim (soze 6-8 friend) gained almost 3 stone during pregnancy. Another friend who I would guess is size 16-18 put on 1.5 stones.

mistermagpie · 06/09/2019 17:10

I do think that's a factor. My bmi was 18 to begin with and is 23.7 just now, which is a big jump but I'm still in the healthy range.

GET OFF THE SCALES.

I was friggin massive while pregnant. Size 18 after birth.

Two years later and I'm back to being a 12. No dieting or special exercises.

I worried about my weight when pregnant. Seems so daft now.

Chill out- this is the easy bit!

Gettingonabitnow · 06/09/2019 17:20

Yeah, I’m fat as fuck now and I’ve got a share bag of buttons in my bag for the walk to the car 🤦‍♀️

Her0utdoors · 06/09/2019 17:22

Yes, with my first pregnancy 70kg at conception, 100kg at 38 weeks. Second 70kg at conception, no idea at term, currently approx 90kg 2.5 years pp.

DustyDoorframes · 06/09/2019 17:43

I put on 22kg with my first, and 10kg turbe

Starlight84 · 06/09/2019 17:44

I seem to have put a bit on last few weeks! I can’t keep away from cakes etc so my own doing! I have gained a stone so far! I’m 22+2! I’ve been making sure I leave the car at home this week and walking to and from work! X

DustyDoorframes · 06/09/2019 17:47

Argh sorry, posted to soon! 10kg turned out to be baby/placenta/waters...
If your BMI was 18 before you began then you need to put it on, your baby needs it and you will need it for milk, if you BF. For heavens sake don't calculate your BMI pregnant, it doesn't work and it's dangerous to think like that. Putting on the weight is good, the problem here is worrying about it and feeling bad. Your MW etc will tell you if there is a problem with your weight, but you might want to talk to her about how you are feeling too.

Fortheloveofscience · 06/09/2019 17:47

I was 63kg at booking in (8 weeks), almost 80kgs at 36 weeks and I haven’t checked since (now 38). I’m over the recommended gain, wasn’t skinny at conception (BMI 23) and decided I’m going to deal with it once the baby’s here. Tonight it’s takeaway pizza for tea and I’m not going to feel at all guilty, pregnancy is hard enough as it is.

fonxey · 06/09/2019 17:49

Oh dear i have got no idea about ibs I had to go look it up.

I've put on... Maybe 10-12kg so far which is about err 20ibs?

It's gone mostly to my thighs because i haven't really got big elsewhere. Maybe my upper arms. I'm gonna have to get rid of that afterwards. Somehow.

I'm 26 weeks and scared about how much more I'll put on. Up until i was 30 i always maintained the exact same weight with no effort. Them over the last few years slowly put weight on. Now it's just all gone on. I hope my body doesn't turn this into a habit.
