All I seem to read is people who have put on 6lb by the third trimester and stuff, which is fine I suppose, but is there anyone else out there who has put on a huge amount of weight?

I started off underweight so midwife isn't concerned but at nearly 28 weeks I have put on 30lb!! I was the same in my first pregnancy, put on a bit less in the second one and lost it all both times, but still... it's a lot isn't it? Blush

I was 8.5 stone pre pregnancy and definitely over 11 (probably over 12) by the time I gave birth. I think I was down to 9stone after 3 months and was back in pre pregnancy jeans after 4 weeks so a lot of it was water (plus I definitely made the most of eating for two!). Don’t worry about weight gain unless a medical professional advices any different.

I asked my midwife about weight gain today because at 32 weeks I'v only put on the weight of the baby and had no morning sickness etc. She seemed to suggest that they weren't really that bothered by women's weight gain unless you had a high BMI to start or were very underweight to start. If you are eating sensibly I wouldn't worry too much about it.

ruralcat · 06/09/2019 17:59

I should add that I was weighed at a cardiology appointment which is how I know my weight gain, the midwife or consultant have never suggested weighing me nor have they measured me either so it's obviously not something that they're too bothered about monitoring.

fluffyjumper · 06/09/2019 18:02

I've put on 15kg (33lbs) and only 22weeks. I had hyperemesis gravidarum which tablets stopped the vomiting but I could only eat carbs due to nausea. My bmi was around 18.5 pre conception. I hate weighing this much, I've always been very weight conscious and it triggers my depression when I gain. I'm seriously struggling. I'm going to talk to my midwife at my next appointment.

After my last baby I did get back into my pre pregnancy clothes really quickly but that was my mid 20s.

I'm just trying to focus on growing a healthy baby boy.

pinkstar01 · 06/09/2019 18:11

I started at 44kg and now at 22 weeks I'm almost 53kg! I guess underweight Mother’s have to gain more maternal fat stores

mrsed1987 · 06/09/2019 18:12

I didnt weigh myself after about week 12 as would have been too depressed lol

SRK16 · 06/09/2019 18:21

I’m 36 weeks and have put on about 30lbs 😫 I was slightly overweight to start with. Am hoping/ deluding myself that a good chunk will be baby/fluid etc... oh well I’ll deal with it when it’s out 🤷‍♀️

managedmis · 06/09/2019 18:23

I put in 50lb with each pregnancy. Lost it both times.

I couldn't stop eating, totally insatiable

bobble53 · 06/09/2019 19:26

I’m 28 weeks and put two stone on. I hate it and I’m worrying as I’m getting married 5 months after the birth and already have my dress. I’m hoping it’s baby and water weight and I can steady it out :/

melissa1215 · 06/09/2019 19:50

I'm 35 weeks, I haven't weighed myself but my lord I have a huge bump. I'm scared to see the scales to be honest I'm avoiding them

crazycatbaby · 06/09/2019 19:57

OP I'm also not one you want to hear from (at last weigh I've lost 8 pounds, I'm 17 weeks), but the key here is I'm pretty overweight BlushI think if you're very slim to start with you tend to put quite a bit on, but if you're bigger you lose a bit/don't put as much on. You will almost definitely lose it all after having your baby, I'll probs still be a chubber Grin

LittleAndOften · 06/09/2019 19:59

I'm 31 weeks and at my 28wk appointment I'd gone from 70kg at the start to 90kg. I've got my next appointment on Monday I'm kind of dreading it. I was doing well with food tracking but have just had a week on holiday where I didn't go mad but was a lot more relaxed about ice creams and fish and chips etc. I was a size 12 back in March, now I'm 18!

Bol87 · 06/09/2019 21:53

I put on 3stone in my last pregnancy without even trying.. I am a really sensible eater & I kept to a normal diet! I do eat puddings & treats etc but I maintain a healthy 9.5 stone all year round, no dieting etc! But the weight piled on in pregnancy, it upset me at the time!

That said, I lost two stone in a month or so post birth with no effort & a fair chunk of comfort eating and the final stone, I did diet & exercise for & was all off by 4 months.

This pregnancy I’ve had HG & lost a stone so far.. honestly, I’d rather the weight gain 😭

Just eat sensibly, not for two. I eat 80:20.. 80% I stick to healthy home cooked meals, simple sandwiches at lunch, fruit, veg & a small chocolate bar a day (essential). 20% I treat myself. A meal out, a takeaway, garlic bread with my big mound of pasta, pudding, a bigger chocolate bar etc!

mistermagpie · 06/09/2019 22:16

Oh you've all made me feel much better! I was feeling like an utter freak with everyone around me saying they put in 10lb the whole pregnancy and what have you.

The thing is, my diet is shit, I can't lie. When I'm not pregnant I'm a runner (not professionally or anything, but I do a lot) and I haven't run for months because of pelvic issues. I do walk and have two young children so it's not like a have time to slob around, but still, I've put on loads of weight. I will turn 40 about six months after the birth and I so want to feel good about myself by then, I'm just worrying I've given myself so much work to do.

I put on 50lb during pregnancy. It dropped off after pregnancy with no intervention from myself. The last 10lb took diet and exercise.

amehh · 07/09/2019 07:53

@mistermagpie I feel your pain, I too was a runner (around 20-25 miles a week average) and have gone from easy 10 mile runs to difficult 3 mile runs, downgraded to power walking and now because of my back I've been told that gentle strolls are all that is on the agenda! It's really frustrating and I run for my mental health as well so it's been tough but I can't wait to get back to it and have made running plans for next year to help :)

I am confident that we will both be up and outside again in our trainers soon :)

Frizzy1986 · 07/09/2019 08:54

Ive not weighed myself at all, I'd rather not know and stress about it. You do what you have to do to get through the pregnancy and I was within ok limits before hand so I'm not concerned.
I put on about 3 stone last time and it took a year to get it off. I was breastfeeding but it didn't drop off at all like it does with some. But I would walk with the pram and dog every day, and after 3 months I cut down on the sugary treats I'd allowed myself to combat the sleep deprivation.
This time, I plan to do the same. It'll come off in the end if I work at it and hopefully I'll go down to less than pre pg as I was already larger than last time as had put on a little in the year prior to getting bfp.

BendingSpoons · 07/09/2019 09:02

I put on quite a bit when pregnant. I don't know how much as I didn't weigh myself. I felt sick and tired so snacked loads on sigary foods. DS is now 6 months and I have lost half the weight gain fairly easily. I am doing Pilates snd trying to snack a bit less. I aim to lose the rest by my return to work. I wish I had put on less but pregnancy was tougher on my body than having a small baby, so I did what I neefed to at the time.

BendingSpoons · 07/09/2019 09:04

By half the weight, that was half from when I measured myself a few weeks after birth, so obviously I 'lost' part of the weight giving birth!

mistermagpie · 07/09/2019 10:30

@amehh me too! I've entered a couple of races for next year, one before my 40th so I've got something to aim for. I came back faster after both my boys to be fair, but found the training hard last time. I was mainly doing half marathons and found it quite tough. Next year my focus is to do a few 10ks and actually putting my trainers on is a start! Doing junior parkrun with my son is about as challenging as it gets just now...

Haha I shan't be doing anything high impact until I finish breastfeeding. Being naturally a c-cup, I was totally unprepared for my enormous, cumbersome cleavage whilst bf-ing DS1. I invested in some industrial strength sports bras but my god it was super uncomfortable! If you think your boobs are big during pregnancy, wait til the milk comes in 😂
