So who's breech at the moment and how many weeks are you?

I'm 33+1 and I don't reckon this LO will turn!

Will keep you updated

i'm 32 weeks, baby due 28th sept and is breech. midwife said she wouldn't get concerned about it unless it was still like that at 34 weeks.

Definitly going to try and avoid a c-section. had one with my last pregnancy and my son is only 13 months now, so don't fancy a big scar, newborn baby, 15 month old and 6 weeks recovery.
Unless of course i have no choice.

alfie72 - i've been looking into moxibustion too. i'd be really interested to see how you get on.

Alfie72 · 07/08/2007 22:41

Hi Diddle,
Yeah, I am trying to take it in my stride too- I heard that most babies turn by 34 weeks and if they don't want to then there's usually a good reason. Fingers crossed eh ?
Re the moxibustion- this is a great link to look at: www.acupuncture.rhizome.net.nz.
I'll try to keep you posted, I have to do treatments at home for the next 10 days

Thanks Toadstool

MrsMar · 08/08/2007 14:16

Harump!!! who'd listen to doctors??? As I knew all along, the baby is definitely breech or transverse breech. I've just had a mw appt and she's confirmed it. I've had that hard lump out to the left under my ribs for three weeks now and that's his foot/feet... there's a corresponding hard lump out to the right which is his head. Oh well, I'm not allowed to worry for another two weeks, but I'm sure he's been in that position for ages. Back to scrubbing those skirting boards (damn I thought I could get away from the all fours thing!)

loler · 08/08/2007 19:31

Well - I've had some movement gone from 35 weeks definately breech to 37 weeks might still be breech. Got a scan on Friday and will be given options after that (next week when I'll be 38 weeks). MW said that the local has high vaginal breech birth success rate.

Will update soon!

loler · 10/08/2007 16:20

Yippee mine has turned - scan confirmed this morning. I'm pretty sure it happened in middle of night about a week ago. That panic is now over!

Hopeitwon'tbebig - currently about 9 lb according to the scan - my prayers for a nice little one gone out the window - still got loads of newborn stuff that's never been worn!

MrsMar · 10/08/2007 16:44

well done loler, that's great news! What did it feel like, just so I can take comfort if I feel something similar Did you really notice it, was it completely different to other movements/kicks etc?

loler · 10/08/2007 16:54

Woke up to a mini disco in my tummy! think the actual turn was what woke me up. So can't say what it felt like - did say to DH that something had changed but it must have a boney bum as still felt very hard at the top!

I did lots of sitting forwards - good luck with everyone else!

toadstool · 10/08/2007 17:08

loler, congrats! hope LO stays put and engages nicely! Have been in today to discuss the natural labour vs CS options concerning both the breech and the leg. I'd changed hospitals in the hope of some sort of co-ordinated care, but all I got was a junior doctor with an unhealthy passion for ECV! So I'm going back to the first hospital - the consultant there was lukewarm about ECV (says it doesn't work before week 37 anyway), but emphasised that I shouldn't be induced either, because my muscles wouldn't deal well with it after 2 months of near-immobility. He would favour a natural delivery, but the policy is to give a CS for a breech... so I'm having a presentation check-up in 3 weeks' time and we'll take it from there. Maybe I'll just buy a torch and try that method !

Hopeitwontbebig · 10/08/2007 18:17

Congrats loler on bubba turning . Eek, already 9lbs, lets pray you don't go overdue huh!

I had an antenatal appointment today, and the midwife struggled to feel baby's position but the heart beat was heard quite high up so she suspects she is still breech.

Toadstool, isn't it wierd how everyone has a different opinion. My pct will try ecv between 36 and 37 weeks but not beyond as they think that after 37 weeks 90% of babies won't turn so the ecv is unneccessary. We'll all be spending the next few weeks with torches and bags of frozen peas!!!

I'm convinced mines breech cos I spend 12 hours a day pinned to my desk working! I think the traditional optimal foetal postitioning stance (on all fours with bum in the air) might terrify anyone who comes near me

MrsMar · 10/08/2007 18:25

oh sorry, forgot to add... Loler, thanks for tip about what it feels like to turn. I'm still getting low movements and I don't think he's made any major movements yet. I'm sure I'd notice... but then again, maybe I'm too well padded !!

PurpleLostPrincess · 10/08/2007 21:00

Wow, loads of Sept girlies on here (((((waves frantically!!!)))))

This thread has grown loads, sorry I haven't caught up on it properly... Just thought I'd report in to say that I saw the mw today and baby is head down. I told her that lo had been shifting positions over the last week or so but she didn't comment or respond. (tbh, I think she was going through the motions today cos she didn't listen to much of what I said but then we all have our bad days!).

PLP xxx

Hopeitwontbebig · 11/08/2007 10:38

Congrats Purple on your baby turning too!! I had TONNES of wriggling going on last night, but my tummy still feels/looks the same shape. What's odd is by this stage my belly button was sticking right out, it isn't this time at all!

toadstool · 11/08/2007 10:57

Good news from a friend is that her LO turned head-down of his own accord in week 39 - so it's possible! Ordering DH to buy torch today (think we already have frozen peas)...

Hi just adding my "transverse update" on here - hello September ladies !!! I had scan on Thursday and they confirmed LO still transverse so have booked me for ECV on Wednesday and Doctor added that there is a risk they might have to induce me (if LO in distress) ! I really am quite worried as didn't really want baby this early - my DD'S on school holidays, no family around to help out, friends on holiday etc. So am desperately trying all ideas to get her to turn around before Weds so I can just go back home and wait for things to go naturally !

Nettee · 12/08/2007 21:49

Hi girls, I hadn't seen this thread before. I am 35 weeks tomorrow and baby is breech most of the time but turning sometimes of its own accord. Not seeing the midwife again till part way through week 36 so hoping that it will be head down then and hopefully stay that way. I am hoping for a home birth and not very thrilled with the idea of being classed as high risk......

PLP - I had the same thing last time round - baby would be head down when I saw the midwife and I would tell her that it had been turning but she didn't do anything about it. Still in the end I went into labour with baby's head down and had a normal birth so all was well.

good luck to everyone that the babies will turn by ECV, moxibustion or just in the own sweet time xxx

toadstool · 13/08/2007 19:21

Amyclaramum, so sorry you're having to go through this worry now. At least the induction is only a possibility if there is distress - let's hope you'll both be fine and able to wait.

diddle · 13/08/2007 19:50

loler - i had a scan with my first baby showing he was a big baby, and he wasn't in the end. so i wouldn't rely on those scans too much.

Saw my midwife a few days ago and baby had flipped to head down, but i can tell now that it has turned back to breech. nt impressed.

ejt1764 · 13/08/2007 20:03

Well, mine's officially gone from transverse to breech ... confirmed at mw appointment today!

I know there's plenty of time, but has anybody got any tips to spin this baby round - bearing in mind that I have severe spd and coccydinia, and find most seated positions very uncomfortable on my coccyx, and any squats impossible because of spd ...

MrsMar · 13/08/2007 20:15

ouch ejt... have you tried making a hole in a pile of cushions/pillows? someone told me that is a good alternative to leaning forward. Use a big pile of cushions or pillows and create a hole in the middle in which to hang your bump. this might only be good for avoiding posterior presentation, not sure if it would turn a breech baby. I hope you get some help soon!

MrsMar · 13/08/2007 20:16

I haven't tried it yet, but have you thought of moxibustin (sp?) as it's a form of acupuncture it might not involve funny positions which could be just the thing for you!

loler · 13/08/2007 20:25

The moxibustion thing is meant to work pretty well (friend had it done - was advised by the lady doing it that in china they start before 36 weeks so best get along quickly).

lizziemun · 13/08/2007 20:31

I'm hoping mine has turned on friday night as i spent the evening laying on the sofa watching my bump change shape.

it started out normal then moved so i had a long lump between my right rib and hip had a nice flat stomach on the left, and then about an hour later it moved to be across under my ribs so i had a nice flat stomch for an hour (i was ignoring the uncomfortable pain from where it was laying). After another hour it went back to the normal bump.

But since then i haven't been able to feel or see where the head is at the top. I have also been getting a lot of downward presure iykwim.
