Any stories of positive outcomes with brown blood and clots at 6 weeks?

I am 6 + 5. I noticed brown spotting on Friday and rang the midwife straightaway. I got sent to the EPU on saturday morning. I was 6 + 2 weeks. The sonographer couldn't see any reason for the bleeding and said there was a yolk sac but not fetal pole yet. She made me an appointment for 2 weeks time, believing me to be earlier than I thought, she thinks around 5.5 weeks.

Since then the brown blood has been getting heavier every day. I passed a thick brown blood clot this morning and was devastated. I drove to a&e. They said they can't scan me until tomorrow.

I am going out of my mind. I switch from crying to numbness. I am scared to go to the toilet so all I am doing is googling my symtoms endlessly.

Had anyone else been in this situation? I can't bear the not knowing and the fear or what I'll see in the toilet.

I had this. I bled horribly for 10 days and was convinced it was all over. The result of that pregnancy is now 2 years old and perfect in every way 😁. There is an increased risk of miscarriage when you bleed (so I was told) but don’t give up hope Flowers

Kinsters · 20/08/2019 12:42

I've had brown bleeding in pregnancy twice - one ended in miscarriage and the other one I'm now 21 weeks and everything looks good so far.

Really hoping for a good outcome for you, it's such a worrying and stressful experience.

nicola18737 · 20/08/2019 12:42

Oh thats good news! Did you have brown blood?

OP posts:
nicola18737 · 20/08/2019 12:44

@Kinsters can I ask, what the difference was with your MC, if you don't mind me asking? I guess I should be prepared for the worse. The brown blood is getting heavier (its day 5 now and I've started to use panty liners, but not soaking through, maybe 1 teaspoon worth all day so far), and I have had a brown blood clot today. No worries if you don't want to answer as it must be painful

Yes it was brown and there was a lot of it, fingers crossed all goes well for you.

nicola18737 · 21/08/2019 15:32

@flairyfairy I went for my scan and there's a fetal pole and heartbeat!! I was in tears in the waiting room expecting the worst. I can hardly believe it as I had convinced myself.

I still have brown bleeding but they said it's old blood and there's no problem as far as they can see.

Amazing news 😊

nicola18737 · 21/08/2019 18:34

Thanks, about an hour ago I went for a wee and there were a few drops of red blood. I don’t know what to think 🤷🏻‍♀️

Once you've seen a heartbeat your odds of miscarriage go down dramatically. Google the stats but from memory you've got a 90-something % chance of a good outcome now.

I had a horrible bleed at 8.5 weeks and was convinced I was miscarrying but a scan showed everything was fine. It feels really scary and wrong when it's happening but it is really common and not necessarily a sign of anything being wrong.

Hope everything continues developing well OP.

peachgreen · 21/08/2019 18:50

I've had brown bleeding in both my pregnancies - one ended in miscarriage, the other I went full term. I know it's so, so hard OP but all you can do is wait. Often bleeding is totally unconnected to the baby (can be cervical abraison, old blood, haematoma) and therefore doesn't really mean anything. It's just impossible to know. Really praying all is okay for you.

Savvysaz · 21/08/2019 18:52

I had brown spotting and last two scans have shown baby growing nicely with a strong heartbeat 💗 I'm now 13 weeks

Namechange300 · 21/08/2019 18:54

Great news!

I had this too and he is now 16 months! Best of luck to you and congratulations!

Newearringsplease · 21/08/2019 18:55

I had the nasty brown blood with my ds, he's downstairs now a big strong bloke

FirstPregnancy36yo · 21/08/2019 19:02

I'm in exactly the same situation right now. We assumed I was about 7 weeks from last period and woke up this morning to a small brown mark when wiping. As the days gone on its still there was covering the tissue at one point. Got an urgent referral to epu and they have found a sac but couldn't see nothing else as I'm only measuring at 5.2. They want me to go back in 10 days and have told me not to worry (yea OK)!! They said as it's brown to not worry but if it gets worse to call them. When I did my urine test I had some clots in it but again dark brown. Fingers crossed they stick 🤞🤞🤞

@DerbyshireGirly oh that is so reassuring t, I didn't know that I just googled it and you're right. I have to be careful as triggering results are coming up too, and reading those has gotten me into a right mess these past few days. I feel better too that you've had a big bleed and everything was ok. It just doesn't seem right, thats why it's so worrying.

@peachgreen I'm sorry for your loss but glad you had a successful outcome. I like to know cause and effect, so to just be bleeding without any cause is really disconcerting. Especially when I had a scan today, I asked her afterwards what it was and she didn't know. I'd have thought she'd have been able to see where it was coming from. I'm still in shock from her telling me there was a baby and a heartbeat tbh. I was so convinced.

@Savvysaz thanks for the reassurance, I'm glad things have worked out ok :)

@Newearringsplease @Namechange300 oh thats so good to hear

@FirstPregnancy36yo yes this is exactly what has happened with me. My spotting started on friday. I had a scan sat morning, I was 1 week earlier than my EDD and there was yolk sac and no baby. However today, just 4 days later there's the fetal pole and a heartbeat now.

I couldn't wait, I was going to go crazy, I couldn't stop crying, so I went to a&e yesterday, they booked me a scan for today. I'd do that in a few days.

FirstPregnancy36yo · 22/08/2019 12:32

Hi nicola, how are things today for you?? I've still got the brown discharge but only enough to slightly stain a pad. More when I wipe. Sorry for the tmi xxx

sweetkitty · 22/08/2019 12:38

I’ve had bleeding in 3/5 pregnancies and only 1 mc, one was bright red and a lot thought I had lost the baby for sure, she’s 15 now. Second time was just brown spots to start with that was a mc, third time brown spots again she’s 11. So you should never give up hope there’s no rhyme or reason for these things.

nicola18737 · 22/08/2019 13:27

@FirstPregnancy36yo oh I’m glad things have got better.

For me, It’s worse today, when I wipe it’s brown bits and red bits. I went to my doctor who has arranged a scan at epu for me tomorrow.

I hope your okay! I had this all through my first. They told me it was just my body changing and basically things inside attaching etc (don't know the medical terms I was to upset an happy to listen lol) but yea I stopped around 14 weeks and he's now a threenager!!!

DONT GOOGLE SYMPTOMS !!!

nicola18737 · 22/08/2019 13:38

@MO2x hahah I know. I’ve got myself in such a state from googling my husband has banned from doing it. He says only he can google things now and let me know.

That’s good that everything went ok for you. I was so relieved to see the heartbeat yesterday but then worried all over again when the blood turned red and clotty 😢

nicola18737 · 22/08/2019 13:39

@sweetkitty thank you. I just feel in limbo waiting for my scan tomorrow. I was so relieved to see the heartbeat yesterday but then there was red blood.

MO2x · 22/08/2019 13:49

Just take it easy. I know every time you bleed you will panic but it is probably nothing ! We're all human. Tbh I'm 5months again now with number 3 and I had spotting about 6 weeks ago but I guess you learn what's normal and what's not. Hope you have a smooth pregnancy !! Xx

CornishMaid1 · 22/08/2019 13:53

Glad your scan went okay and hope your scan tomorrow is okay.

I know how you feel - I started with red bleeding at 7+3. Had a scan the next day and all was okay. I then had the worst bleed I have ever had at 7+6 with massive clots. I thought it was all over. Had a scan a couple of days later and all was still fine - I had a subchorionic haematoma, which is common, that caused it. I still have spotting now every day at 11+4 and some women do.

Do not google - most will point to miscarriage as the cause, but it isn't always. Get plenty of rest if you can and just stay positive.

beccarocksbaby · 22/08/2019 13:53

Bled from 5 weeks to 11 weeks brown blood sometimes just a bit others a lot.

Turned out I had two embryos and two sacks in there. One developed and one didn't. I lost the additional.

Currently 13 weeks and healthy.
