Any stories of positive outcomes with brown blood and clots at 6 weeks?

I am 6 + 5. I noticed brown spotting on Friday and rang the midwife straightaway. I got sent to the EPU on saturday morning. I was 6 + 2 weeks. The sonographer couldn't see any reason for the bleeding and said there was a yolk sac but not fetal pole yet. She made me an appointment for 2 weeks time, believing me to be earlier than I thought, she thinks around 5.5 weeks.

Since then the brown blood has been getting heavier every day. I passed a thick brown blood clot this morning and was devastated. I drove to a&e. They said they can't scan me until tomorrow.

I am going out of my mind. I switch from crying to numbness. I am scared to go to the toilet so all I am doing is googling my symtoms endlessly.

Had anyone else been in this situation? I can't bear the not knowing and the fear or what I'll see in the toilet.

Sorry didn't see your message till now. So happy for you that you saw the heartbeat, that's a really good sign.

Tbh my bleeding was worse with the (so far) successful pregnancy. With the miscarriage I had just a small amount of brown spotting until after the miscarriage was diagnosed and then I had heavier clotting with painful cramps as well.

For this pregnancy I had small amounts of brown spotting and then it turned a bit heavier and looked like it had tiny clots in it so I was terrified but, like you, at the scan there was the baby and heartbeat. I carried on spotting brown blood on and off until about 12 weeks and then it eased off so I think it could have been hormone related.

There's nothing you can do except try not to stress too much (which is impossible). I'm over 21 weeks now and still check the toilet paper every time I go to the loo.

Hoping for the best for you x

I had 2 months of brown clots and discharge. I had a scan and it was a big fibrous blood clot that was gradually coming away but it was scary at the time!

@CornishMaid1 that must have been so scary. Its awful you have to wait for scans, its hard not to go crazy in between. I know I am struggling to cope. It's like a rollercoaster or highs and lows.

Could they see the subchorionic haematoma on the scan and was it a vaginal scan? I wondered if thats what I have but the sonographer didn't mention seeing anything to cause the bleeding.

@beccarocksbaby ohh I see. I did wonder if that is what was happening with me. But there was only one sac in the scan. Could they see 2 on yours?

Me! I didn't know I was pregnant til 10 weeks with one of my children as I had a 'period' at about 4/5 weeks.

Thank you for your message @Kinsters , that has given me hope. It sounds like what I have. Its so hard to stay positive isn't it, when you have blood coming out, it just feels like that shouldn't be happening.

@fantasmasgoria1 oh really? 2 months, that must be have been so scary. This has been going on 6 days and I am going out of my mind. Did they see the clot on the scan? I don't think the sonographer could see anything on mine, but I wonder if they can see more on abdominal ones, mine was vaginal.

Nicola Yes, it's very hard to stay positive - bleeding just seems so incompatible with pregnancy. Sometimes it's ok though.

Pepperama · 22/08/2019 15:11

Turned out ok for me too (with red and brown blood early on and for a number of weeks) but no one can tell you for sure beyond the moment of the scan (I had quite a few but then worried again at next bleed). Miscarriage is common as you know, but so is continuing pregnancy.

All fingers crossed!

I had a scan at 7 wks and 10 wks because of the bleeding and it was there for both but gone by 12 wks

Cannyhandleit · 23/08/2019 19:40

How did you scan go @nicola18737 ? Hope everything is ok!

slipperywhensparticus · 23/08/2019 19:45

Did you have an internal scan? That can aggravate bleeding and I bled throughout my pregnancy he is ten now turned out I had chronic thrush which was irritating my cervix it shed skin and all sorts easiest labour out the three but 39 weeks of thrush give or take was pretty hellish

nicola18737 · 23/08/2019 19:50

@Cannyhandleit everything is fine! They don’t know why I’m bleeding and having clots. They said if it starts gushing and I’m having bad cramps then to ring them back. So I’m just going to try and run with that and not worry about the blood and clots.

@slipperywhensparticus yes an internal scan. I wondered if it could be that that was causing it. I don’t have another until next Saturday so maybe things will calm down now.

Ouch that doesn’t sound much fun 😩

Just to update you all, it is the worst. It's been a horrible rollercoaster of emotions this past 2 weeks.

I'm so sorry Nicola. The same thing happened to me over a 6 week period. The worst was seeing the heartbeat and then it still going wrong. Felt so unfair. Be kind to yourself and allow yourself to feel whatever you need to feel. My next pregnancy was successful - will be praying for the same thing for you.

Just to apologise profusely as I hadn't seen your last post.... so sorry to hear that. I will get my post deleted.

nicola18737 · 28/08/2019 17:41

@peachgreen thank you. I'm glad your next pregnancy was successful. I hope we'll be as lucky. Did you wait until you had a period before trying?

nicola18737 · 28/08/2019 17:42

@JMG1234 I didn't see it. Don't worry whatever it is I'm sure you didn't mean any offence or upset x

No, but I waited a few weeks and checked to make sure I was getting negative tests so I could be sure if I got a positive it was a new pregnancy. It took us a little while to get pregnant again (though that's because I have PCOS, nothing to do with the miscarriage) and in the end we conceived on what would have been our baby's due date.
