@purplefig - I could of watched them all day dancing around! I have tried to say that to people but they don’t quite get it - saying ohhhh your be fine! I’m hoping nearer the time people will understand a bit more!

The lullaby trust doesn’t suggest sleepyheads 😭 or anything in their cots and I’m such a stickler for the rules! I think that’s the nanny in me, Im not able to recommend anything like that due to the guidelines.

www.lullabytrust.org.uk/safer-sleep-advice/

For anyone who is interested! (Don’t want to preach to anyone so I hope no one minds me putting this up here) @MrsEG - they also mention twins too ☺️

MrsR16 · 17/09/2019 18:05

@BabySquid I'm sure it'll be alright - I've definitely done worse! 😂 I'm so proud of DH. He's been on tablets (I forget the name of the drug) which stop the cravings and make it taste different, etc. They've worked wonders!

@MrsEG it'll look like a wonderful house, full of love and family!! 😍 yeah, I gave up 3 years ago, so know it's difficult but he's been smoking since he was 15!

@PippaPug thanks, lovely! He's doing so well 😊

@purplefig no, I don't think they'll make life easy!

MrsEG · 17/09/2019 18:55

@purplefig I really do love the Out n About, I think I’ll end up with one at some stage haha! So excited for your 20 week scan.

@PippaPug TAMBA workshop talked about this; we’ve decided sharing a cot from birth until they are rolling over. They can’t share a Moses basket and they also can’t really share a Next to Me yet as Nice haven’t finished their research in to this yet. And yes, a big no to the Sleepyheads, but they can literally just lie next to each other in a cot, either side by side or with their heads in the middle and legs towards either end :)

@MrsR16 It’s hard work isn’t it?! Hopefully the added push of being smoke free for when the babies are here will help him!

purplefig · 17/09/2019 20:54

@PippaPug oh gawwwwd - shows what I know 😂 @MrsEG it was actually Poppy from Insta I was thinking of with this set up: poppyd.com/sleeping-arrangements-twins-gorgeous-sleepi-cots/

@MrsEG yeah Ive noticed quite a few out n abouts in our neck of the woods, so I'm definitely leaning that way. I'm sooo excited too - convinced it's a boy. How're you feeling today? Isn't the second trimester bliss compared to the first?!

How's everyone's evening going? I'm not long in from a meeting and now going to chill and watch The Capture at 9pm. Love how old school it feels to watch proper TV 🤣

MrsEG · 17/09/2019 21:39

@purplefig I can’t wait to find out what you’re having! We were convinced of at least one boy too, mainly due to my lack of ever being sick (even though I know that’s a bit of an old wives tale!) I am actually feeling fab - truly other than my bump growing pains which I’m pretty used to now, I feel fabulous! Trying to enjoy it before I turn in to a wrecking ball on legs!!

I need to watch the Capture before I fall behind ha! Watched Bake Off and now I just want cake and biscuits.

stormtrooperjulian · 17/09/2019 21:54

@Fivebyfive2 @MrsEG @MrsR16 some workplaces can be so useless with maternity! My manager has been incredibly supportive but HR have been useless, they managed to lose my maternity forms and didn't bother to mention it to me til I emailed them the other week asking if there were any final bits to sort out before I left 🙄 they hadn't organised my maternity pay or anything, if I hadn't emailed I'd be leaving this week with absolutely nothing in place!

@PippaPug how lovely that you got a surprise scan in! I keep hearing about the sleepyhead and how amazing it is but I really don't want to go against the safe sleep advice so I don't know what to do really Confused

@MrsR16 nice work by your DH on the quitting smoking!

@BabySquid my only hesitation would be spending time in airports and on planes with the baby before vaccinations... I haven't looked into that at all though so I don't know whether that is something worth considering

PippaPug · 17/09/2019 22:37

@purplefig - very interesting what she wrote about, thank you for link! Those cots are lovely, but I find them hard to change the bedding and (this sounds silly!) but they don’t fit neatly into a corner and when they are older the duvets don’t fit neatly 🙈😂

@stormtrooperjulian - I’m sorry I didn’t mean to put you off.....some people use it and say their baby wouldn’t of slept without it (but I always wonder how they know that?) The other issue I know that families have is that baby gets used to it and you end up having to take it on holiday and then you have to wean them off it when they are too big (although you can get a maxi one which I think goes up to aged 2/3?)
For me personally - I worry about it all round their heads, all that material - and the baby getting too hot. There is a cocoon which I have used as well - doesn’t have anything round their heads.

As far as I’m aware there has been no SIDS which has been connected to sleep aids such as sleepyheads etc so it’s really how you feel....however cot bumpers are really not safe 🙈 don’t want to lecture anyone though 🙈
Maybe see how baby is and if no sleep after a while you can have a look around?
Hope work gets their act together for you quickly and sorts it all out!

@MrsEG - I think we have gone to a cot but with two Moses baskets inside them - I found babies don’t always like the big space....but if they hate the Moses baskets they can just go in the cot 😂

LokiCat · 18/09/2019 07:34

Morning all :) it's absolutely freezing here this morning! Regretting not grabbing my jacket. I hope you all had a nice evening. DH is working lates all week, so unfortunately watch the Capture! Started a new series on Netflix called Unbelievable. It's quite intense and I'm already hooked!!

@MrsEG thank you! I really hope I do see something. This will be DH's first scan as well, as he couldn't get out of work when I visited the EPU so he's very excited. Cute bouncer!

@ELW85 thanks, I hope so! I keep thinking my symptoms have lessened so feeling slightly worried that something will be wrong at the scan. I'm glad I've booked it so I'll know soon. Just hoping the next few days fly by!
How are you?

@PippaPug how great that you got an extra scan and got to see both of them together. That must have been amazing to see!
Thanks for posting the list of useful things to get. I'm making notes even though I have a while to go! Grin

@MrsR16 ouch, hope your toe is okay. Well done to your DH! That's brilliant :)
Sorry to hear things have been so tough at work. I hope the next few weeks till your maternity week fly by!

@stormtrooperjulian I hope HR get their act together!! Lucky you managed to catch that before you left. Our HR department is generally pretty useless as well, so I'll have to make sure to keep on top of things when sorting out everything for myself.

Have a brilliant day all! Grin
I just got an email last night from Bounty that Mamas and Papas are having a mid season up to 50% off sale. Too early for us, but still had a browse 😊

MrsEG · 18/09/2019 07:36

@stormtrooperjulian Your HR dept sound terrible; to lose the forms but then not tell you!! Surely it was on their radar you were leaving fairly soon?! Hope they get it all sorted for you!

@PippaPug @stormtrooperjulian I was so adamant I wanted a Sleepyhead in the early days but the guidance is so conflicting and even TAMBA warned against them on Saturday mainly based on the ‘official’ line from the Lullaby trust, so I think I’m gonna save myself the money and hope for the best!!

@PippaPug TAMBA showed us a video on co-sleeping in a cot; when they’re both in there it does utilise the space a bit more but also apparently they settle better as they feel comforted being so close to one another 😍 I still have the slides from the workshop so if I can find the video later I’ll post it for you! They looked so blummin’ cute in a cot together!

Happy hump day! I’m about to take my car in for it’s service and hoping for the best ha! Preggo yoga then tonight, one of the highlights of my week at the moment! Have also just put in an offer for a twin carrier on eBay and so hoping they go for it! X

MrsEG · 18/09/2019 07:38

@LokiCat I’ve been watching Unbelievable! Incredible isn’t it. I’m about 3 episodes in I think. The difference in how the female detectives treated their cases compared to the men! Frightening.
Ooh thanks for the heads up on Mamas and Papas!

PippaPug · 18/09/2019 09:38

@LokiCat - what’s the capture about? Sounds intriguing!
I have whole lists of useful and not useful stuff due to my time as a Nanny, but still haven’t started my own official baby list!
Hope the days fly by till you have your scan!

@MrsEG - I have always liked the sleepy heads and always thought I would get them till I checked the lullaby trust, plus now the fact the twins are likely to be prem and therefore not able to regulate their body temps even more so then a full term baby.

Yes some babies/twins settle with each other and others although settle, they don’t like the open space and get startled a lot and wake themselves up....I think we will get Moses baskets as they are relatively cheap and they can be in the lounge with me and I can watch them there, rather then always putting them in their cots and being stuck in the bedroom most the day!

stormtrooperjulian · 18/09/2019 10:59

@PippaPug you didn't put me off, I'd already done some research and decided that I wasn't happy to go against the safe sleep guidelines just for a sleepyhead. Although I might end up reassessing if I end up with a nightmare sleeper 😂
I've already had to put my foot down on cot bumpers after my MIL bought one for us!

@MrsEG they seem to have got things sorted now, I made it pretty clear that I wasn't impressed!

ELW85 · 18/09/2019 11:13

Morning all!

How good was The Capture last night?

@MrsEG @Fivebyfive2 @MrsR16 - work have been super lovely to me and my boss is being OTT nice since the other day. Must have reflected on it 😂

@purplefig - I’m excited for you for your scan! Less than a week now!

@PippaPug - pleased your visit and scan went well 😊 it would have been lovely to see them!

@LokiCat - I still have wobbles about symptoms now, it’s totally natural. Got everything crossed for you for your scan; it’ll be lovely and put your mind to rest!
I’m ok thank you my dear! I think I’ve turned a nausea corner, sort of, but it’s still lurking 😂

BostonFern · 18/09/2019 12:17

Hey ladies,
Hope we are all having a good Wednesday.

@ELW85 I'm glad telling your boss went ok.

@thumper59 That's a really cosy looking corner.

@BabySquid I bet you're getting excited for tomorrow!

@MrsEG your bump is looking lovely! That bouncer looks fab too.

@MrsH497 I think a week by week approach is sensible.

I've had a very quiet few days, still not well and won't be at work for a couple of weeks- the Drs and midwife have been lovely.
I'm 30 weeks now, I feel like I ought to get my hospital bag sorted at some point soon 😬

BabySquid · 18/09/2019 12:22

@BostonFern very excited for the scan tomorrow. And equally excited that our hol is 5 weeks today!!
Hope you're feeling better soon but I'm glad drs and midwives have been good. When are you planning on starting your mat leave?

I've had a message from my drs about the flu jab walk ins, do you guys think I should go to one of them or book in and get my whooping cough at the same time?

BostonFern · 18/09/2019 12:26

Thanks @BabySquid, the plan is to start maternity leave at 35+2, so hopefully I'll get a few weeks back at work to get everything straightened out before I start mat leave.
I think if I were you I'd book and get both done at once, saves too many trips to the doctors (and being exposed to others coughs and colds!).

BabySquid · 18/09/2019 12:32

@BostonFern good point on the other people germs ❌ I hope you manage to get back to work for a bit, nothing worse than not feeling your best knowing you have things so sort at work.
My work are getting a temp in to cover me while I'm off, so hoping to get them in just after xmas so I can show them payroll month end, and a full month before I go off end of Jan, but that only leaves me with 2 weeks before due date. My family have a terrible habit of not making it to due date 😕

MrsR16 · 18/09/2019 13:18

@ELW85 that is great to hear that everything's alright at work now! There's nothing worse than you feeling crap anyway and then work not being understanding...

@BostonFern where did those 30 weeks go?!? That'll fly by!

@BabySquid I've got to go to the drop in clinic for my flu jab, so had to book my whooping cough separately 😕 I think I'd rather have both done at the same time!

purplefig · 18/09/2019 13:39

Guys my dentist asked if I was pregnant yesterday - I think this means I might finally have a proper bump at 19 weeks!!

@BostonFern sorry you're not feeling well, hope you pick up soon. Wow so not long to go!! Definitely time to start thinking seriously about what snacks you want in your hospital bag #priorities

@ELW85 OMG so good. I am well and truly hooked. Also loving the nostalgia of having to put the proper telly on at a set time each week! Glad to hear your nausea is turning a corner - I felt like a new woman once I could stomach veg again.

@MrsEG fingers crossed your car gets through ok. Either way - yoga is the best treat. Definitely a highlight of my week too. What do your bump growing pains feel like? I get the odd stabby sensation if I move oddly, and a fair amount of stretching sensations.

@LokiCat has it warmed up? Cold down in the south west this morning but I'm just back from a dog walk in the blue sky sunshine and I'm legit sweating - deffo not cardi weather 😅

@PippaPug no prob at all. Messy bed linen would drive me up the wall too. Corrr what a cool chilled out mum I'm going to be 😎

Catching up with TTC #1, thread 6!
BabySquid · 18/09/2019 14:17

@purplefig BUMP!! So cute.

MrsH497 · 18/09/2019 14:35

@purplefig that is such a cute bump!

Well first day of AL the weather is beautiful and we are at the BMW championship at Wentworth!

MrsEG · 18/09/2019 15:01

Arrrrrgh just typed such a big post and then hit the stupid Gaviscon ad and lost it!! I’m gonna try and do it all again!!

@PippaPug Yeah I think it will be real trial and error with twins, especially non-identical - what works for one might not for the other!!

@stormtrooperjulian My mum tried to pass a cot bumper off to me that my sister previously turned down, even though she knows the risks!! She was all ‘Well it would be a shame not to use it at all’ why did she buy it in the first place, I just don’t know!

@ELW85 Glad work are being good with you!

@BostonFern Sorry to hear you’re feeling rough! Glad the midwives are being good with you. Not long now til mat leave!

@BabySquid I had both of mine done at once, wasn’t too bad! Arms were back to normal within a day haha!

@purplefig Lovely bump! I feel it in different ways - sometimes a real sharp pain, sometimes if I lift my arms up I get that tight feeling like when you’ve done lots of core work! And it also itches like crazy!

I had a really weird/nice (!?) moment in M&S today! The cashier asked me when I was due so I said not til the new year, I’m just having twins so carrying very big and she was all ‘Ohhhhh I just got goosebumps!’ And all the other cashiers then came over to ask me questions haha! Even the old dear in the queue behind me congratulated me on my ‘miracle’ ha! Weird thing though as I was paying the cashier said ‘Do keep popping in won’t you so we can see how you’re getting on’ - it felt a mix between nice and being in a zoo!!!

BabySquid · 18/09/2019 15:15

@stormtrooperjulian & @MrsEG what is it with parents and bumpers?? My MIL wanted to buy us a bedding set with a bumper and I told her they're not recommended and she was like 'but they look so cute!' Do I care if it looks cute?!! No!
I think that's so sweet about the cashier ladies, but yeah also fairly zoo like haha

stormtrooperjulian · 18/09/2019 16:04

@BostonFern sorry to hear you're not feeling well, hopefully a couple of weeks of rest will help.

@BabySquid probably easier to get both jabs at once if you can, and like the others have said it minimises germ exposure at the drs surgery! I'm having my flu jab on Saturday (assuming I'm not already in labour at that point!), I've had 3 text messages in the past 3 days encouraging me to book an appointment for it so it seems they're pretty proactive about it in this area

@purplefig thats a lovely little bump you've got now!

@MrsEG I'm not keen on all the attention I'm getting now I'm so huge... it's nice that people are interested I guess but it's all people want to talk about with me!

@BabySquid yeah it's ridiculous isn't it, I don't care how cute something looks if it's a potential risk to my baby 🙄

purplefig · 18/09/2019 16:43

@BabySquid thanks! I have a wedding in a few weeks, not going to lie, v excited to shop for a bump friendly dress! Grin

@MrsH497 thanks lovely - have fun at the championship, you've certainly got the weather for it!

@MrsEG Yes I know exactly the feeling - except the only core work I do these days is eating. Mwahaa. That sounds LOVELY and I bet their intentions were all lovely, but also completely understandable while you felt a bit like you were in a zoo. I still can't get over the fact you are half way, just incredible!

@stormtrooperjulian thank you! How many weeks are you now? Great your surgery is so proactive about getting your flu jab.

Have a lovely evening all x
