Anterior placenta and movements?

Hi, looking for experiences of people who had anterior placenta's. I've been told this is what I've got and that I may not feel much at the front of my belly, may not be able to feel baby move as much and may be harder to determine if baby isn't moving as much as usual.

It's my first baby and I was really looking forward to feeling her move, but now it seems like that's a long way off for me :(

If you had an anterior placenta when did you start feeling movements? I'm always on the look out but feel like I'm going to be waiting forever now:(

My last pregnancy was an anterior placenta and I felt little all the way through. My comparison my others were posterior placentas and I felt continuous kicks and could see my belly move.

I first felt movement at 20 weeks almost exactly. He hasn't stopped since then! This is my first so I've nothing to compare it to but it's rare to go for more than an hour without a lot of squirming. The only thing I don't get is that weird thing where you can actually see a hand or foot sticking out but that would probably freak me out!

I just checked my notes and I had anterior placenta in my first pregnancy. Started feeling movements at around 17 wks but they were more like pulses/ bubbles/ fluttering and not movements as such. Still, went on to feel stronger movements as the weeks went by, and in the second/ final trimester could also see movements on my belly like "waves", which were very obvious. I'm sure people's experiences vary, but just trying to reassure you that even with anterior placenta, you could still feel consistent and strong movements, as in my case. In fact if no one mentioned the anterior placenta, I wouldn't have known that my movements were different from anyone else's as they felt strong enough for me.

With my current pregnancy the movements feel different. They started at 16 wks and have been strong from the beginning like kicks, which startled me on certain occasions, so I'm thinking the placenta isn't anterior this time round (the movements aren't consistent yet though). Suppose I will have it confirmed in the 20 wk scan when it comes to it!

How far along are you now? Exciting that you could start feeling those movements any minute now.

I've got an anterior placenta and have been able to feel her for a while now (24 weeks currently). She's now strong enough for me to be able to see my stomach move and my partner has been able to feel her for a few weeks now too.

How many weeks are you?

I have an anterior placenta and I'm nearly 23 weeks.

I started feeling movement around 17-18 weeks but it felt like gassy bubbles so I was never sure if it was her or indigestion.

Around 20 weeks they got much "bigger" like real thumps! I tend to feel at the bottom or sides. Nearly always after eating x

mine is anterior and I started to feel my first movements after 20 weeks. I'm not glad at 34 its anterior as he rolls a lot and I can only imagine how it would feel without extra padding! I didn't get the feet imprints or hands that some people seem to get and it was hard working out if his sticking his bum or head out!

I’ve felt movement since 18 weeks and I feel him all the time (now 23+5) and see my belly move too. My 20 week scan said I had an anterior placenta but it’s not stopped me from feeling him at all!

I have an anterior placenta and am 20+5. I think I have felt the baby move a few times but always when I'm in bed lying down. It doesn't feel very strong and i can wait for ages and try and feel something and there's nothing!
I had an appointment today and the midwife said that was totally normal to not feel anything until 22-24 weeks and not sense a pattern until 28.

Important to say - when I had the scan and the sonographer told me I had an anterior placenta she explicitly told me that despite old wives tales it would not stop me feeling the baby. You'll still be able to sense a pattern and if you feel like the baby isn't moving as much never just put it down to the placenta - call your unit. She was very clear!

I have an anterior placenta and am currently 21+4.
I first felt flutters around 16-17 weeks and on Friday night (so 21+1) we felt her properly kick for the first time! Between 17 and 21 weeks I had felt her moving around a little.

All of the movements & kicks I've felt have been low down (from belly button to bikini line) which confirmed what the nurse said at my 20 week scan about my placenta not being too low.

You won't know any different if it's your first anyway. You will definitely feel movement so don't worry. I am newly pregnant with my second and hoping not to have an anterior placenta again so that I can tell the difference.

I barely felt my DD and I had an anterior placenta. Shocking really, she's 17 months now and can't stay still for a bloody second! I was a bit gutted, I was really looking forward to big movements etc. But I got slight movements, no kicks at all, and some movement across my tummy. Started about 24 weeks for me. I didn't feel her once at all the whole 2 days I was In labour either!

I have an anterior placenta, started feeling flutters at 20/21 weeks and proper kicks which I could see around 23 weeks, now 32 weeks and feel her moving constantly and can see my whole stomach moving around. I was so worried I wouldn’t be able to feel much, this is my first baby so I have nothing to compare it too but defo wouldn’t say is affected me that much.

Around 18 weeks for small movements, 20 weeks for proper kicks, and around the same time for other people to feel the movements from the outside. After 25/26 weeks I started to get really big movements and after 30 weeks the whole belly movement/waves started. 37 weeks now and little one is currently breakdancing on my bladder and kickboxing my ribs at the same time!

I had an anterior placenta with my first pregnancy. Felt what I would call proper kicks around 22/23 weeks but some before that which I couldn’t say for sure were kicks. I didn’t feel a massive amount of movement & even went in twice with reduced movements. My husband couldn’t always feels them.

My second pregnancy my placenta was posterior & I had much more noticeable kicks & I could feel them from around 18 weeks & they were much more noticeable to both me & anyone else looking at my stomach!!

I feel a little more reassured now. I was worried about not be able to determine a pattern in movements so when to know if something isn't right. But by the sounds of it, I'll find my own normal with her no matter where the placenta is.

I'm just over 17 weeks now, we found out gender privately. So hopefully it's only a few weeks before I get to feel something at least

It's my first and I have an anterior placenta too and I feel her alllll the time! Currently 33 weeks, started to feel movement around 20/21 weeks, my husband didn't feel anything until around 26 weeks but she had a definite pattern and I feel her way more than I anticipated. In fact we've just both felt her hiccuping! I've not seen a hand/foot poking out as obvious as some people do but I've definitely seen her stretch out across my bump and I've got a few videos of her rattling about!

@Hannah9176 aw sounds fab! I'm really looking forward to feeling some movements. It's the bit I've been the most excited for, so I was a little down when the sonographer told me I may not feel much if anything throughout. But these experiences have really picked me back up :)

It can really depend oh where your placenta is too. DS2 mine was fully front and centre I literally felt nothing. I had to concentrate really hard and it was always a weird dull feeling (very different to DS1 who was posterior) this pregnancy I feel loads despite having anterior again ... but I know it's slightly off to the right so I mainly feel and see movement in my left / high & low

Started feeling DS2 around 21/22 weeks and this baby about 19 weeks

First felt proper kicks/moves 20 weeks - mine is high and baby is currently breech so is kicking me under placenta. I'm 24 weeks now and dd and dh can feel kicks

I’m having my first and have an anterior placenta. I had exactly the same worries as you and felt sad that I wouldn’t feel much...I needn’t have worried! First felt rolling sensations around 18 weeks and definitely by 20 weeks could feel kicks. I’m now 29 weeks and feel all kind of wiggles and kicks all through the day, they are so strong. I do feel them more at the sides rather than the front but I don’t feel like I’m missing out at all so don’t worry, I’m sure you will be the same!

I am currently pregnant with number 3 and have had an anterior placenta with them all. I don't really get much early movements but by 3rd trimester I've always felt movements and been able to see sticky out limbs etc from about my belly button up.

Mine is anterior, last one was posterior so I am really appreciating the difference.

I felt definite kicks from say, 19weeks but they were weak, very peripheral (not in centre of abdomen) & sporadic.

24 weeks and feeling much more now but still very subdued compared to first pregnancy where I could see elbows and feet (though there's still a way to go i guess!)

I've got an anterior placenta this time round and I had my first movements around 20weeks, 16 weeks with my first when I had posterior so not much difference (although it felt like a lifetime!)
What I will say is when they check for baby's heartbeat at antenatal appointments it can take abit longer to find it so don't panic, I know I did at first!

I'm 23 weeks tomorrow and only started feeling kicks probably... At 21 weeks but only more defined at 22. Still quite well and not very often. It audits me because how am i supposed to tell if there is decreased movement? Is she moving normally now? I'm probably just not feeling most of it.

I'm really bummed my oh hadn't really felt a kick yet. And i really wanted to see a foot or a movement. But oh well.

Last night she was punching my services cervix though. I don't know whether that makes me happy or not. Haha. I feel her mostly lower down in my belly. So i guess under my placenta.
