BFP after d and c

I had a d and c on the 21st may (over two months ago). I just took a pregnancy test today and got a BFP. Went and bought another 2 - also BFP. Could this still be from by old pregnancy or could I be pregnant again? I have only had sex twice since the d and c and didn't think I was in fertile days as such.

After my miscarriage they said it too around 3 weeks dir hormones to return to normal. so I would say pregnant

Sparadrap · 01/08/2019 16:52

I fell pregnant really quickly after my d&c - it was about 6 weeks after. There is a small chance it’s from your original pregnancy but more likely it’s a bfp.

Ginmonkey84 · 01/08/2019 16:58

After this amount of time I would very much doubt it’s left over hcg how strong is your line? X

family2 · 01/08/2019 16:58

Thank you @csmw and @Sparadrap for your replies. I spoke to early pregnancy and have an appointment next Thursday - so hopefully they can advise further. Def showing positive so I'm hoping I am

I fell three weeks after surgical management of a MMC (we were too cheesed off after multiple consecutive MMCs to wait the recommended time). EPAU did insist that I had l to have it confirmed by scan to check that it wasn't retained products though.

Looks likely... tentative congratulations!

JoJoSM2 · 01/08/2019 17:20

I was just going to mention ‘retained products’ or a bit of old pregnancy tissue causing hCG production. Might be worth checking out.

family2 · 01/08/2019 17:41

Thank you @RobinsNest17 and @Ginmonkey84 for your reply. I am concerned that it might be tissue missed at d and c. I spoke to early pregnancy on the phone and they thought it unlikely as I've not had pain or bleeding but I'll not know what to think until scan next Thursday.

Keeping everything crossed

I would be definitely on the side that it’s a new pregnancy. 2 months after DnC if you had retained product you would be having issues before now. I know with mine I bled of and on and knew something wasn’t right. So I will be the first to give you tentative congratulations x

Ginmonkey84 · 01/08/2019 19:30

Sorry the second lol missed RobinsNest17. Good luck! X

Thank you @Ginmonkey84 and @JoJoSM2. I will update next week after EPU appointment.

After your d&c did they not ask you to do a test a week later? To check the hormones had gone??

barnyb · 01/08/2019 20:42

I had a d&c last year and they asked me to do a test a week after and if showed pregnant then that meant tissues left and would have to go up the hospital again. I had to let them know either way xxx

family2 · 01/08/2019 20:50

@barnyb - they did say to test 3 weeks after d&c and make sure that it negative but I didn't. Wish I had of listened them.

Aw bless you. Well I suppose the only thing you can do it wait and see what they say on the scan xxxx

Bobssy · 01/08/2019 23:58

I had hcg in my system just under 5 weeks after MMC and D&C but not due to retained product. My hpt lines were v faint, your lines are v strong so looking good for new pregnancy. Good luck and keep us posted Smile

update - went for scan today - showing gestational sac only so they took hcg levels and will retest on Saturday so see how they are progressing. So, the positive pregnancy test was a new pregnancy and not retained products. Just need to monitor now to see if the new pregnancy is viable. I will keep you updated - thank you.

Keeping fingers crossed for you @family2 !

family2 · 15/08/2019 17:09

Just to update - hcg levels had risen from 3000(something) to 5000(something). Had second scan on Sunday and it showed yolk sac and start of pole in gestational sac. I've scan again on Monday and they hope to see heartbeat at that stage. I'll keep updated. X

All seems well so fingers crossed. We did have scan at this stage last pregnancy but stopped growing not long after so we are hoping for better result this time xx

@family2 That great! Whilst there are ever any guarantees, I know from experience that having seen a heartbeat increases chances of a successful pregnancy massively. How many weeks did they date you from the scan?

family2 · 21/08/2019 09:21

@RobinsNest17 they dated 7 weeks 3 days which correlated with what we thought. The lady in EPU said that she doesn't need to see me agin but if I wanted reassurance to call her around 10 weeks and she'll give me another scan. I'll be taking her up on that x
