Worried about small bump at 19 weeks

Hi everyone - I'm really worried because I don't look pregnant, even though my 20-week scan is next week. I'm 5ft 7 and currently 9 stone 8lbs, and even though I've put on 8lbs since the start of the IVF cycle, I'm still a size 10 and have no bump at all, just a bit of tummy flab from the weight gain.

I'm absolutely terrified that the baby isn't growing properly. I have a doppler and I can find the heartbeat easily, and I feel flutterings every now and again, but shouldn't I have a bit of a bump by now?

Mine didn't pop until after 20 weeks and even then I only put on a stone

Congratulations!

Littlejets · 31/07/2019 22:20

I'm 5ft 2 and a size 6. I didn't look pregnant till I was around 6/7 months. You've probably got awesome stomach muscles Smile

Robs20 · 31/07/2019 22:20

Is it your first pregnancy? If so its totally normal. I had no bump until 20+ weeks. At 25 weeks I wore a size 10 bridesmaid dress and didn’t show (small bump under dress). By the end I was huge....so just wait!

RedPandaFluff · 31/07/2019 22:26

Yes, it's my first pregnancy, but sadly I don't have good stomach muscles @Littlejets - a year and a half of back to back IVF cycles made me really lazy! Apart from a brief period when I got back into running at the start of the year . . . until I did my ankle in 😏

I'm relieved to hear that it can be 20+ weeks - I google image-searched "bump at 19 weeks" and found so many photos of proper bumps, it made me worry even more. So, thank you!

Similar size to you, mine didn't pop out until about 24 weeks. It's totally normal for first baby.

georgialondon · 31/07/2019 22:27

Second baby you look 6 months pregnant at 3 months!

Panda761 · 31/07/2019 22:29

I didn't have anything like a bump until at least 23/24 weeks. Actually some people seemed shocked to find out I was pregnant at 30 weeks. Please don't worry about it. I think it's fairly common with first baby

pumpkinpie01 · 31/07/2019 22:29

I'm similar size to you and didn't show til gone 20 weeks , don't worry in 2 months time there will be no mistaking you are pregnant, congratulations!

RedPandaFluff · 31/07/2019 22:31

Ahhhh this is helping, thanks everyone!

I just keep finding new things to worry about . . . !

Another one with no bump until about 16 weeks and then it was only when I was lying down. Really started showing at around 22 weeks but still could have just been podgy.

I looked set to pop in November though and DD wasn’t born until the January.

ReturnofSaturn · 31/07/2019 22:38

I didn't even get a bump at all until well into the 20 odd weeks.

He was an 8 pound baby so no problems.

tillytoodles1 · 31/07/2019 22:41

My friend was due three weeks before me and at four months I was huge and her stomach was so flat she could still wear her normal clothes, It was our second pregnancies and she just didn't show until 7/8 months. She's had three kids now and still has a flat stomach and no stretchmarks,

bobble53 · 31/07/2019 22:55

I’ve only just popped out this week at 22 weeks. I wouldn’t worry :)

Sunshine1239 · 31/07/2019 22:57

Totally normal
I hid my pregnancy til 22 weeks! Baby is tiny right now, be more off if you were showing tbh

KitKatCHA · 31/07/2019 22:59

I've had 3 kids and didn't look pregnant with all of them till at least 25 weeks. Some people just carry differently. I'm sure baby is just fine.

hannah9176 · 31/07/2019 23:06

Mine popped out about 21-22 weeks. I was still in size 10 jeans until then, then one day I woke up and she just popped right out! I was always paranoid too until then and my stomach was still completely flat at 20 weeks. Ironically bump is now measuring off the chart!

lvqj · 31/07/2019 23:10

I got a tiny bump about 25 weeks but I was well into my third trimester before people noticed I was pregnant.

Falafel19 · 31/07/2019 23:14

Gp said I had incredibly strong abdominal muscles hence very little bump the entire way through, same as my mum and grandmother, none of us are/were into exercise so definitely just the way we were made rather than the result of any effort!

broken1982 · 31/07/2019 23:20

I got married at 21 weeks pregnant and in the size 8 dress I had bought several months before. I didn't look remotely pregnant. I just 'popped' but thought I looked quite big but at 36 weeks my midwife sent me for a scan because my bump was actually worryingly small but baby was 8lb8oz born at 38 weeks so I don't think bump size really matters

lvqj · 01/08/2019 04:28

Also I was back in my skinny jeans 4 days after birth so a small bump isn't all bad!

With my first I hardly showed much before around 20 weeks. This time its a different story completely. Not only am I a bigger person weight wise anyway, I popped around 12-14 weeks. I think my bump is now similar to what I was first time round at this stage (31 weeks) but it appeared a lot sooner.

FYI, please be wary of a home doppler and don't use it to reassure you. You are advised not to use them as you can either panic yourself for no reason or you dont speak to your midwife about concerns because the doppler reassured you.
Basically, if you have any worries at all, speak to your midwife first and don't rely on the doppler as you might not get help that you need.

HavelockVetinari · 01/08/2019 07:17

Totally normal, I wasn't showing properly till c.7 months! With first babies it's actually pretty common to show late.

CmdrCressidaDuck · 01/08/2019 07:31

Entirely normal. Most people don't have a proper "bump" in their first pregnancy until after 20 weeks. Often well after. I probably wasn't clearly "pregnant" with my first until the third trimester. It doesn't really matter if you haven't been doing any sit-ups lately, your stomach muscles get trashed by a first pregnancy in a way they never really recover from and most women "show" much earlier in subsequent pregnancies for that reason. Most of those "19 week bumps" you're seeing are probably either not first pregnancies or mostly bloat.

hairhair · 01/08/2019 07:32

I was like this even with my second pregnancy! Some of us just carry small
