Worried about small bump at 19 weeks

Hi everyone - I'm really worried because I don't look pregnant, even though my 20-week scan is next week. I'm 5ft 7 and currently 9 stone 8lbs, and even though I've put on 8lbs since the start of the IVF cycle, I'm still a size 10 and have no bump at all, just a bit of tummy flab from the weight gain.

I'm absolutely terrified that the baby isn't growing properly. I have a doppler and I can find the heartbeat easily, and I feel flutterings every now and again, but shouldn't I have a bit of a bump by now?

I didn’t show until 20 weeks and I ended up ENORMOUS by 9 months.

I didn’t have a bump until 25 weeks. Even now at nearly 30 it’s still tiny. People don’t believe I’m so far on! Hoping to be back in skinny jeans soon after ha!

For my first pregnancy, I was still in my normal work trousers at 20 weeks. For my second one I felt so big I was convinced it must be twins! Both healthy pregnancies & similar weights once born.

I’m still so perplexed by people insisting on using a home Doppler even though at EVERY midwife appt, at least with a reasonably professional MW, we are all told how dangerous use of them is!! 🤯

Are these people also reading the NHS guidelines for pregnant and rubbing themselves in toxoplasmosis and smoking 40cigarettes a day????

Baby 1: I didn't have a bump until about 25 weeks, then ballooned, he was 8lb 9ozs when born a day late

Baby 2: I showed almost instantly, but didn't get as big in the later stages. Born 8lb 11 days late.

There's as many stories as there are babies in the world! Don't worry.

Op I'm the same height and was similar weight to you with my first pregnancy and I distinctly remember being on holiday in a bikini at 19 weeks with absolutely no discernible bump and rocking those size 10 shorts.
I popped at 21 weeks and was the size of a small outhouse by the time I gave birth at 42 weeks to a healthy 9lb baby.

I was a similar height and weight to you and also had little to no bump until later in either of my pregnancies. With DC2 I didn't even tell anyone until after the 20 week scan and nobody had noticed. People used to comment a lot on how small my bump was and it irrationally upset me. I was worried the baby wasn't growing well. Anyway, it turned out that both my babies were well over 9lbs so bump size is absolutely no indication of the size of baby! We are all arranged differently inside and some women's uteruses are further towards the back.

I'm 21 weeks and went to a party 2 weeks ago where someone told me "that's not a bump, I've looked bigger than that after eating pasta" Hmm

I had my scan on Monday and all measurements were between the 40th and 65th percentiles, and the sonographer said I was measuring a day or two ahead overall - so all looked well on track Smile

I feel like my bump is growing by the day, but I'm still not wearing maternity clothes and fitting into my old leggings and dresses just fine. I don't look anything like some of those bump pictures online either.

rubbing themselves in toxoplasmosis

😂

This has massively put my mind at rest, thanks for taking the time to respond, everyone.

For those that have mentioned the doppler - it was a very careful, considered and informed decision. I'm fully aware of the risks and therefore it's not something I'd place reliance on.

The primary purpose of the doppler was to get me through the 12 week to 20 week stage, when movements aren't discernible or regular. I'm very glad I got it because if I ever felt panicky or anxious (probably about once a week!) I'd have a listen to the heartbeat and found it immensely reassuring.

I won't use it much from now on, as I understand that the baby's movements are a better indicator, and I'll be calling my midwife as soon as I suspect something might be wrong.

Completly normal, even if it's not the first pregnancy. I was 'huge' by 20 weeks with DS1.. I've attached a pic of me this time at 19 weeks, and my baby is just fine :) xxx
