When did you start buying big things like pram, Moses basket, cot etc? I'm 12+4 and all I wanna do is shop 😆

... Whenever you want? You don't need permission.

We bought pram at 14 weeks and it's been a downhill splurge from there. I bought a couple of things earlier but my oh wanted to wait.

Next to start early i think, you can spread the cost rather than leaning it to the least month or two and having to fuel out hundreds.

If you want to wait a bit why don't you create wish list somewhere? Allows you to choose what you want without commitment.

Bol87 · 29/07/2019 21:14

I waited until my 12 week scan, then started. My 12 week scan was a couple weeks before Black Friday, so took full advantage of the sales. For baby clothes, the Boxing Day sales were fantastic! I went to Mothercare & Boots and stocked up!

Def hunt around for sales & also check out any local nearly new sales. There are lots around me & I've got some lovely clothes & toys in great condition! Once, I got 4x gro-bags for £5! Considering they sell for £25 each, I was delighted!

EscapeTheOrdinary · 30/07/2019 08:15

We started with small stuff at 12 weeks as there was a nearly new sale so got some clothes. Then around 16 weeks got the car seat as it was on sale and got a cot after 20 weeks when we found one we liked. We kept saving and as we saw bits and pieces we got them so now I’m 32 weeks we have pretty much all we need and just have bits for my maternity bag to go. I haven’t gone over board on clothes or nappies as we won’t know his size so just got 1 pack of nappies and a few clothes in each size so once his here we can stock up on what fits

EscapeTheOrdinary · 30/07/2019 08:17

I would recommend doing a list before you shop as it is very easy to believe you need all the stuff in the shop but I used old threads on here and nhs maternity bag list to make sure we only got what we needed as we can buy or hire other bits as and when we need them

HJWT2 · 30/07/2019 08:22

Got everything on amazon around 20 weeks and the pram carseat and accessories at 22 weeks !

Weathergirl1 · 30/07/2019 11:05

We started looking at things at around 20/21 weeks to work out what we wanted for big items. And then once we'd decided, I started trawling eBay as I thought it would take quite a while. However we found a Snuzpod and a pram system pretty quickly so will have those sorted by today (23 weeks) and a bit of a panic as to where in the house I'm going to store them!!

PinkSpring · 30/07/2019 11:09

We didn't buy anything until after 20 weeks.

I am now pregnant again and just waiting for the 20 week scan to find out what we are having, then we will start buying what we need/haven't got left over

BobTheFishermansWife · 30/07/2019 11:11

I'm usually quite organised but I only wrote a list of what needed to be bought after my 20week scan, we then didn't get anything until week 28, and that was only because dps mum and my parents took us shopping. I suspect if they hadn't done that we wouldn't have bought anything in time for his arrival at 38 weeks 😳

Funnybunnyfluff · 30/07/2019 11:15

I'm 20 weeks now and not bought anything. I wanted reassurance first just incase.

Started looking now though it's a mind field. 🙈

IntoValhalla · 30/07/2019 11:23

With DC1, I started buying once we found out she was a girl at 21 weeks.
DC2, I didn’t really buy anything until a few weeks before he was born because all I really needed was clothes - we’d kept most of the big stuff from DC1.
Now 33 weeks pregnant with DC3, and I’ve only bought a few clothes, and added a few more nappies to my cloth nappy stash. Other than that, I’ve bought nothing!

Mintypea5 · 30/07/2019 11:30

Whenever you're ready.

I tend to wait until I know everything's ok at the 20'weeks Scan but there is no fixed point really. Just whatever you're comfortable with.

Amazon have today and tomorrow left on their wish list deals if you're looking to get some bigger items.

McHelenz · 30/07/2019 14:16

We bought the pram just after our 12 week scan and from then the sales began and it's been a slippery slope 😂.

I am 17 weeks and we have pretty much bought all we need...

gkeal3 · 30/07/2019 14:19

Just ordered my pram at 28 weeks.
Last time I bought a buggy for my son I was 12 weeks pregnant. Depends on whether you're likely to change your mind and whether you have storage as they come in quite large boxes

bobble53 · 30/07/2019 19:35

I’m 22 weeks and almost sorted!

JemimaPuddlePeacock · 30/07/2019 19:43

I’m twenty weeks and haven’t started :) been moving house and sorting things like sofas and tables and chairs. Planning to do a big shop around six or seven months, get the nursery sorted etc. Gonna make a list and work through it. Would have felt weird to buy anything so far as there’s no guarantee of a healthy baby at the other side so I wanted to hold off for quite a while.

Actually I’m lying, we bought a book for them, just a story book, so my OH could read it to them through my belly.

xTinkerbell · 31/07/2019 01:08

I'm 21 weeks, 22 on Friday and I started this week - bought changing unit and a high chair (I know I won't need for a while but it was half price!). Planning to get moses basket at the weekend and put deposit down on the pram - which I went to look at at around 13 weeks. I had bought lots of little bits before then though. I need to make a list and figure out what I still need.

MrsB899 · 31/07/2019 15:51

Thanks for all your replies. I've seen such a lovely pushchair but it's navy and we're not sure what we're having. Would you put a girl in a navy pushchair

OP posts:
purplefig · 31/07/2019 16:01

@MrsB899 1000% I would - but I abhor the idea of colours having to relate to a sex Grin. Regardless of my opinion, it's probably worth picking a colour that you think is 'sex neutral' if you're planning on having more than one child anyway.

As for your original question, I've just had my 12 week scan and I'm planning to start picking up a few bits from this weekend. Like others have said, I want to spread the cost out.

MrsB899 · 31/07/2019 16:09

I'm 13 weeks and have just bought my pushchair saving over £600 in a half price sale. I went for the navy 🤗

devilishlygood · 31/07/2019 16:32

Seriously??? You’re worrying about putting a girl in a navy pushchair???

I thought it was 2019 and all that...🤯

Gustavo1 · 31/07/2019 16:35

I did it ever shop until after 20 weeks.
Which pushchair did you go for?

xTinkerbell · 31/07/2019 16:54

Navy is fine for either gender ! I think navy is really nice, I’d have gotten navy if my pram came in that colour

PixieLumos · 31/07/2019 17:04

Whenever you want really - I bought most things later on because for me buying something that I don’t need for another 6 months seemed a bit pointless - it’s just cluttering up the house and making me more impatient to meet my baby! No harm in getting a few nice pieces of clothing or a soft toy if you’re excited but I think prams and practical stuff like that can wait really. But each to their own.

Weathergirl1 · 31/07/2019 17:21

I was in a navy Silver Cross coach pram in 1980 and a navy pushchair after that - my DM's favourite colour is blue so I wore a lot of that as a child too & it wasn't because she wanted a boy before anyone suggests that!

MrsB899 · 31/07/2019 18:07

@Gustavo1 I got the joolz day 3
