Maternity wear in shops - where do you go?

Why is it so hard to find?

When I was last pregnant in 2007 you could get it in the big high street stores, especially if you were in a city like Birmingham - Topshop, New Look, H&M, Dorothy Perkins etc all had maternity clothing in store.

For some reason, I thought this would be even better all these years later, but I was in Birmingham recently and none of the shops stocks it in-store, it's all online only.

If you need to buy something, where are you meant to go? I am truly puzzled by its disappearance!

I got jeans, shorts and some tops from jojo maman Bebe as there is a shop near me, and everything else online from Gap during one of their sales (usually 40% off) with free returns. Not much available on the high street.

cliare · 28/07/2019 13:22

I've been trawling ebay!

PrayingandHoping · 28/07/2019 14:04

Jojo Maman Bebe, H&M and mothercare are the only places I've found that stock anything

Angelinthenightx · 28/07/2019 14:08

I got dresses in topshop in the sale online.

userabcname · 28/07/2019 14:12

Online! I order from asos. Also Aldi / Lidl do some fairly decent stuff during baby events that you can find in shops.

csmw · 28/07/2019 14:17

I got quite a few bits from Boohoo and new look in the sales as they were so cheap

HippoRampage · 28/07/2019 14:24

All of mine was ASOS or H&M in store. Debenhams sometimes had some in store and New Look as well, but more often than not it was the wrong sizes/just didn't fit. It's so frustrating - clothes shopping is a pain in the arse at the best of times with sizing, then add in pregnancy and your body constantly changing... trying stuff on is so helpful but there just isn't the range of options in store. I did venture online for a few bits and just made sure it was from shops that offered free returns.

I had the same issue its was easier in 2004 when had first babe I was shocked when having my 2nd baby that there was nothing. I brought on line for trousers or stretch tops and leggings from Primark

SRK16 · 28/07/2019 14:56

I’ve given up finding stuff in store- most stores don’t stock maternity and if they do the choice is shite. Went to topshop Oxford Circus as I knew they had specific maternity section and was shocked at how poor the selection was.
I’ve found stuff online at H&M, asos, mamalicious. Also got some nice stuff from seraphine via eBay.

Summerloving17 · 28/07/2019 14:57

Think you have to go online to get a decent selection: H&M, Next, Dorothy Perkins and Seraphine have sorted me out this time x

Puglover88 · 28/07/2019 17:08

Peacocks have a range in store.

Nearlyfriyay987654 · 28/07/2019 17:09

H&M are good for skinny jeans... tops.... new look online cheap for dresses and skirts!

gkeal3 · 28/07/2019 17:13

Can never find any in store. I use Asos and topshop online mostly x

Whisky2014 · 28/07/2019 17:13

Fucking nowhere. It's all online. I found this out when I specifically took a trip into a city to buy maternity clothes and not one shop had anything!!
New look have a tiny range but it's crap and shit quality.

ememem84 · 28/07/2019 17:44

Asos, topshop, new look online

In store JoJo maman Bebe.

Or eBay for things like Isabella Oliver and seraphine dresses.

Teddybear45 · 28/07/2019 18:42

Big John Lewis / Next / Debenhams stores stock them.

SospanFrangipan · 28/07/2019 19:01

Peacocks usually have a range in store :)
I found Asos the best though 👍

HarriR · 28/07/2019 20:59

H&M is the best store for maternity wear. Also try trawling through the charity shops, I've found some great buys there.

tisonlymeagain · 28/07/2019 22:10

Thanks - I will shop online but yesterday I really just needed some maternity leggings and was surprised that nowhere in a major city like Birmingham stocks maternity wear.

I hate the faff of ordering and having to send loads of stuff back but I suppose that's what I'll have to do!

Just figured by 2019 more shops would be on board, not less!

Doesn't the new Primark in Birmingham have a maternity range?

Beccy82 · 28/07/2019 23:54

Having the same problem here. Currently 6 months pregnant and a size 24 at the moment, have a wedding to go to in 3wks so who knows if i'll be the same size or how much i'll grow in 3wks. Nightmare finding something nice and smart to wear. Looked at so many different online shops and most things look like tents! A lot of the maternity range in some places don't do bigger than a size 18! Wtf is that about? I'm gonna have to try looking on some sites that u lovely people have recommended and hope I find something.

melissa1215 · 29/07/2019 06:18

I've had no joy in store to be honest, new look had a couple of bits but not as much as online.

I've pretty much ordered everything online and hoped they fit

TokenGinger · 29/07/2019 06:23

I hated the faff of looking online!

Matalan has a range in store and I found them to be the best maternity jeans. Their range was quite limited though. I had three pairs of jeans from Matalan and then got all of my tops from H&M. The store in Manchester had clothes in store so I suspect city centre stores will.

For work dresses, I just had to order online. I found Boohoo had a good range of dresses for work.

Whisky2014 · 29/07/2019 09:07

Matalan didn't have a range in store when I went in a few months ago. But that was dundee.

tisonlymeagain · 29/07/2019 09:59

@squiff70 I thought I'd heard that but I coudn't find anything.
