How many outfits do you need in each size ?

Currently 11 weeks and gathering bits here and there but i have no idea how much I'll need in each size or what sizes so far ive got a few bits in tiny baby size all the way through to 3/6 months but not sure if i need more/less. Is it ok to put them in outfits once there about 3 months ie comfy joggers and a t shirt ? Baby is due in February so i want them wrapped up warm !!

Baby grows are the best only need a few outfits for special occasions.

Vests and leggings/joggers are ok but putting trousers on a young baby is quite difficult!

That's what i meant by outfits sleepsuit and vest underneath with socks and mittens. Ive got about 20 sleepsuits and 20 vests surely that's enough in those sizes no idea how much they'd go through per day

I'm 14 weeks and only have some booties, hats, mittens, dribble bibs and one neutral baby grow with a knitted dungaree. Also due in Feb!

I had my DD in Feb and found it was best to stick with vest/sleepsuit/hat/blanket combos. Tbh in the first few weeks we didn't venture far, and in hindsight I wish I had been less keen to get out and about when I did. Stay inside in the warm!

Stop buying stuff! You will get so much when baby comes that you probably won't need to buy any clothes for the first year.

All you need are your babygros & vests.

I think it always good to have different sizes as you have done, as you never know the size of baby.

It's great that you are building a little collection of clothes, but always remember, if you go through your collection you can always buy more, so try not to get too hung up on buying everything now.💐💐💐💐

Yes I had my DS in outfits when he was 3 months, little dungaree sets, nice tops and trousers for when we went out for meals or coffee in the afternoon, but then joggers and TShirts/jumpers when we were in the house.

Yeah don't buy loads. Your baby could be chunky and / or grow super fast. My son was a little chubster and gained weight like a champ - he never fitted in tiny baby, was hardly in newborn and then flew through the other sizes. He's only really stabilised at 2yo - this is the first time he's been in the correct size and stayed there for a decent amount of time! As for how many per day you get through, it really does depend. The first 12 weeks DS was very leaky (as were my boobs which often used to drench him during feeds!) so we got through quite a few outfits per day but not all babies are like that. I'd err on the side of caution and not buy any more. Once baby is here you can always grab a pack of vests and sleepsuits at the supermarket or online plus you'll get given loads too so you'll probably be fine.

Mine wore baby grows for bed and in the day joggers and tops, we didn't have many nappy leakages so they sometimes wore the same baby grow for 2 nights, for day time they had a clean top daily but again I often got 2 days out of the joggers, never wore mittens even though I bought them. One thing I didn't get enough of was sleeveless vests as DS1 (18m) wore one under his clothes all the time and a clean one daily. DS2 is 3 weeks old so haven't had to buy anything new this time which has saved me a fortune!

They are yet to wear anything like jeans, shirts, dunagarees etc

Get some dungarees. I put them over a baby grow. Baby was "dressed" complete with socks they cannot remove! But mainly the first 3 months or so my babies lived in baby grows. I found t-shirts just rode up and wrinkled behind their backs.

For a winter baby I'd get a few cardigans to go with the vest/grow combo. 20 sleepsuits in each size would have been plenty for my very sicky DD1 and too many for rarely-sick DD2. If you have bought that much for the first few months it's worth dropping very unsubtle hints to friends and family that it would be great if any presents of clothes could be age 6m+. As others have said, if you do find yourself a bit short you can always grab an extra pack once the baby is here.
In terms of outfits, I had time to do them with DD1, so she wore the odd one in the first couple of months and then every day after that. DD2 was only in sleepsuits/rompers until she was 6m (except the odd special trip out), and every day we didn't have playgroup etc after than until 9m-ish

Don't buy many under 6 months, but keep the season in mind. When you give birth everyone buys 0-3 and 3-6 month clothes so you'll be inundated

I would get some simple clothes (babygrows, soft comfy trouser/jumper combos) in newborn and 0-3 months, then see how big they are when they arrive and how fast they grow. Also what shape they are - different shops seem to suit different babies depending whether they are long, chunky, petite, etc.

I stocked up on clothes up to six months - daughter was tiny and summer had been and gone by the time she grew into all the summer clothes I had bought!

You know what? I read the original post and was thinking, how is she only 11 weeks when I'm 14 and due in February too...

I'm actually due 17th of January, I think I have serious baby brain. Thanks for reminding me I'm a month off my own pregnancy

Stop buying clothes!!!
You'll get so many clothes as gifts, outfits and babygrows, you've probably got too much already. Plus you might have a big baby and grow out of the tiny clothes in a couple of weeks.

I had 10 - 14 of vests and sleepsuits in each size from newborn to 3-6m. No outfits as they are a huge pain.

DS was unwell after birth so wore newborn for far longer than I anticipated as he was a 91st percentile baby at birth (dropped to 25th). Then he grew out of 0-3m in ten days!

I bought secondhand as most of this stuff is barely used, unlike toddler clothes which I find get stained or worn out.

Wow I had maybe six bsbygrows in 0-3 months and he was out of them in a flash. Just bought as he grew so I wouldn’t waste them. I got given a few and I trawled the second hand websites.

I’m due December. I’ve got mainly sleepsuits and some long sleeved bodysuits and leggings so far (little boy) in 0-3. I will buy 3-6 once he’s born xx

I don't really have anyone to buy me gifts hence buying it all myself everything I've bought so far has been 2nd hand bundles hence the range of sizes i was given I'll probably stop for now then and see what size they end up

People will probably give you loads - they don't need to be close friends either. Work colleagues gave me so many second hand clothes (and other stuff) I won't need to buy anything new. Some of their children are teenagers now and they still had things they'd kept.

I underestimated how many gifts I'd get too (think having a girl affected this- people like buying baby clothes and LOVE buying girly things, it turns out!)

She is three weeks old and spends most days in a babygrow with a sleeveless vest underneath. We have a few nice outfits for going out although they are very summery and the weather hasn't been so we haven't got much use-yet.

She is in a grosnug at night so either a short or long-sleeved bodysuit but I have far too many of these as she only wears them in bed.

She did need tiny baby initially but is now too long in the body and legs for those but I'd advise you to look at the weights on clothes as much as the wording- I thought first size was quite big but the ones I was given are only up to 7.5lb and she is too long for those too now. So we are just about in newborn which mostly goes up to 9 or 10lb, she's nowhere near this weight but she needs the length.

I'll completely agree with a PP though the only things I've had to dash out for are the sleeveless vests as we can easily poo our way into needing two or even three of those in a day. They are dirt cheap in the supermarkets as well.

I've no idea why all the gift sets contain hats as we never seen to need them (although summer baby) and scratch mits as the sleepsuits have them built in now.

Stop buying clothes! You will get given loads. I wouldn’t bother with tiny baby and only get a few bits in newborn as some babies go straight into 0-3 or are only in newborn for 1/2 weeks. My DD was born the end of December in 2017. 0-3 was massive so DH nipped to the shops to get some newborn stuff and I was given loads. DD wasn’t a very poo-ey or vomity baby so I didn’t get through multiple outfits per day so many things were worn once or twice.

You also don’t know what weather will be like as we could have a mild winter and early summer. Up until March it was cold but last summer was roasting from April onwards so DD lots of the winters/spring clothes in 3-6 didn’t get worn at all! DD also had a massive growth spurt between 4-6 months. She fitted into 0-1 months until she was three months. By the time she was 6 months she was in 6-9!
