27wks and losing mucus plug/show - is this bad?

Am 27weeks, had slight brown discharge yesterday but didn't worry too much. Have been having BH all day today and now think I just lost/passed my mucus plug. Is this bad or can pregnancy still go ahead as normal without plug? Anyone had any experience of this?

(if it makes any difference, this is my second child)

TIA

do you still have the 'plug' and are you entirely sure?

Would contact midwife as you need to get them to examine you to see if there is any change in the cervix. The sooner you act the better.

eandh · 29/07/2007 19:35

I am sure it can 'replug' itself but I may be wrong, I would call/got to hospital to be on the safe side and get you and baby checked out

EffiePerine · 29/07/2007 19:35

No experience of this, but I'd give your mw/maternity unit a call.

asur · 29/07/2007 19:42

ok, thanks for replies... Just avoiding contacting the maternity unit coz they are awful... Was hoping someone would tell me that it's not a problem and everything would be fine!

Might force myself to call them though.

think you should call them TBH - if it is any reassurance you wont be seen as making a silly fuss.

BBBee · 29/07/2007 19:45

you need one of the doula types really - will kep bumping.

EffiePerine · 29/07/2007 19:45

Are there any alternative numbers in your notes? If not, yes ring them

ejt1764 · 29/07/2007 19:49

If it's any consolation, I lost my mucus plug at 22 weeks (after a nasty bleed) - and am fine ... apparently, it reforms!

However, when it happened, I was already in hospital, so was able to get reassurance from the midwives - there is nothing for it but to ring them to get yourself looked at.

Good luck - hope all goes well!

asur · 29/07/2007 19:56

good to know ejt

I don't actually have any notes - long story but they didn't give me them at the appointment the should have. Will look up number and give them a quick call.

how are you asur?

asur · 30/07/2007 19:08

BBBee, thanks for asking. I did phone the maternity unit and they were very reassuring and said that they thought it should be fine.

Unfortunately this morning I delivered my son at home but he was stillborn. Think he died up to 2 weeks ago so nothing I could have done earlier...

thanks for your advice though, will go have a look at miscarriage section...

Asur, I am so sorry to hear this. When you feel you can or need to, and it may be months down the line, try and get in touch with SANDS. Have you named your son? I am so sorry for your loss.
