F*cking Indigestion

Sorry for swearing but I am sitting here feeling like someone has made me drink a bottle of tequilla (without the nice numbing efffect) - everything hurts from the top of my bump right up to my throat - I have had enough!!!

Coupled with waking in the night with a mouhtful of acid I probably will be a toothless hag by the time this little one makes his appearance!!!

can sympathise, between bouts of morning sickness i have constant heartburn. drives me mad!!

Have found a new 'remedy'. A 1/4 teaspoon of bicarb in small glass of water. It doesn't take it away totally (what does eh?), but it does help a bit. Maybe try that. And keep on the milk, gaviscon etc etc. Do you sleep upright, no spicy foods, eat little and often etc. etc?

I remember this well, had it all the way through my pregnancy I started on the Gaviscon but I think I over did it a bit and got really bad wind I moved onto Rapeze (not sure of spelling) but they did the trick after every meal.
You have my sympathy Twinkie.

I thought Peptac tasted nicer- and remember you can get it (or Gaviscon) free on prescription!!

Have bottles and bottles of Gaviscon advance and it helped for a while but no more it seems!! Also have ranitidine which is the most a doctor can give you and its ok but sort of cleans your internal bits out so alright if I am at home alone and can run to the loo!!

WIll try the bicarb, no chocolate diet next then!!

Am sitting here eating a cornetto hoping that helps toa degree!!

When Gaviscon and the stuff the doctor prescribed stopped working for me I found the only stuff that had any effect was Tumms, tastes a bit nicer than bicarb!!

Am highly allergic to fresh pineapple so that won't do I'm afraid - lady here has just said McDonalds milkshakes but I seem to get food poisoning everytime I go near a McDonalds!!

Cornetto seems to have done something and feel a bit better though - ooohhhh I'll not be having just one then!!

I've also found (as having had lots of time off work because my indegestion has been so bad!!) that Gaviscon extra stength tablets work quite well. They've got a variety of different ingrediants in and work quite well. They foam up in your mouth and are quite soothing. They're about £3.50 a packet, and state on the back they are safe for use during pregnancy. Couldn't see them in superdrug but Boots do them. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Your doctor could prescribe Ranitidine for you. You can certainly buy 1/2 strength ranitidine over the counter. It may say on the packet that it is not suitable for pregnant women but it is OK. Our consultants prescribe it if the GP refuses.

Have got some Mears but it sort of excavates my insodes if I take it and I have to be right next to a toilet so I can't take it if I am coming to work!!

Doctor sort of said it Reflux Osophogitus!! Renitidine was all he could do I am afraid.

I have to say it is the worst thing about this pregnancy, I have a terrible cough from the acid coming all the way up my throat - am having trouble sleeping and have a constantly horrid tatse in my mouth - bah humbug - will try some bio yogurt tonight - someone here said that might work!!

can you take Zantac during pregnancy? I had terrible indigestion with DD and despite swigging Gaviscon Advance, it didn't seem to touch it. A friend whose hubbie is an obstetrician gave me a Zantac 2 days before I gave birth and it was fantastic. But I think - can't remember - that she said it is usually prescribed?? Anyone know?

For reflux (indigestion/mouthfuls of acid when you lie down) it helps to elevate the head of the bed. I stuck piles of magazines under the legs at the top of our bed to add about 6 inches. Better than extra pillows because you're not kinked at the waist. We slept like that for about five months, you soon get used to it and it does help.

laa - Zantac is the tradename for Ranitidine unfortunately.

Another sick friend of mine found that drinking soda water at night before going to bed halepd. Don't know if that has already been suggested.

This is all probably obvious but since medicines aren't working for you,I thought I would offer the bl**ding obvious! Don't eat late in the evening and sleep propped up with lots of pillows. I found that made the reflux better (only giving birth made it go away completely!)

I had the gaviscon tablets on prescription with ds2. I found magnums were good - but they have to be white chocolate.

laa I can confirm what Mears has said.
my fab obstetrician prescribed it for me in all three pregnancies when all the other tricks in the book failed.
It was WONDERFUL!! he said there is no evidence it can do any harm and was quite happy to prescribe it.(so was my GP)I took the maximum dose for almost the full length of all pregnancies and highly recommend it ( I repeat, I tried EVERYTHING else first !)

I always meant to write to the manufacturers to thank them

I just read another 'remedy' yesterday on a natural health website (can you tell I am getting desperate?). Suck 2 licorice lozenges before eating. I couldn't find any lozenges, but got some sticks out of the health shop. Has helped a bit, but jury is out as I have only used it once so far.
