Having an early reassurance scans tomorrow when I'll be 7+1
Had an early mc a few months back so haven't got too excited in case this one ends in mc too.

Should I expect a transvaginal scan at 7 weeks or is it likely to be an ultrasound? Also what did you see at 7 weeks? Heard of people seeing a heartbeat which would be really reassuring

Hi, I had a reassurance scan at 7+1 and we saw a heartbeat attached to what looked like a haribo ring (!), the whole thing was 5mm long. Could also see the corpus luteum and she imaged my ovaries too. Wishing you the very best for a positive experience x

Lauraloop1516 · 16/06/2019 16:06

I'll jump on this thread too - having an early scan on Tuesday at 7+5 and have the same qs. Like you, op, I've been holding back from getting excited or even really believing that I'm pregnant.

stormtrooperjulian · 16/06/2019 16:16

I had a scan at 7+4. Saw a little blob with a heartbeat. Was a standard ultrasound, not transvaginal.

Lollypop10 · 16/06/2019 16:21

I’m having a scan tomorrow at 7+ 5days. I’m super anxious as had a miscarriage in October. So although i’m not sure what we will see. I know exactly how you feel xx

Ansy38 · 16/06/2019 16:23

Hi I had a 7 week transvaginal scan like the other replies. I was told by an obstetrician that if you see a heartbeat and a blob (his terms) at this stage then the chance of a successful pregnancy was about 80% which I sought great comfort in. Best wishes to you OP

PrayingandHoping · 16/06/2019 16:25

I had a scan exactly at 7 weeks. At that stage book an internal one as they are more accurate than abdominal. At 7 weeks there should be a heartbeat 👍

My clinic wouldnt offer until 8 weeks but I had mine then and saw essentially a donut shaped ring with a blob in it, and a tiny wee flicker which was the heartbeat. She also imaged my ovaries and was able to tell me which one I'd ovulated from. It's amazing to see my scans now at 25 weeks and see the difference!

PregnantOnPurpose · 16/06/2019 16:59

This is what we saw at my 7 weeks scan, was days at 7 weeks 1 day, which is what I thought, but there was a possibility o was further along, hence why I was sent for a scan.

This is my little blob, we saw a heartbeat and it was all abdominal :)

I had an external scan at 8 weeks - no heartbeat found but a little blob and a yolk sac. They then offered internal to see if they could find the heartbeat but I was so upset that I really wasn't in the right place to go ahead with the internal. Free external rescan a week later and all was good!! Heartbeat going strong and a different sonographer who was very surprised it hadn't been found a week before.

HungryForSnacks · 16/06/2019 18:05

@JoJoSaysHello oh how awful! You must have had a horrendous week. Glad you had some good news at the second scan.

I had mine yesterday at 7+5 weeks. They recommended an internal scan given it was before 8 weeks. Based on other experiences though sounds like it could have just been external though!

Don't mean to derail but wondering how much people paid for their scans? I called a clinic I'd used a couple of years ago and their price had gone up to £170! Couldn't believe it. Found somewhere 30 minutes away and paid £79 which was much more reasonable.

Pinkmouse6 · 16/06/2019 18:56

Definitely transvaginal. Had two scans at 6 and almost 8 weeks, both were transvaginal. Also had missed miscarriages where the foetus died at 7 and 9 weeks (but only found out at 11 and 12 week scans), needed transvaginal during those scans too.

tomatan1990 · 16/06/2019 19:01

I had one last week at 7+2 and it was abdominal! could see the heartbeat flickering which is the important thing at this stage I think Smile good luck!

EmrysAtticus · 16/06/2019 19:07

Had one at 7+1 and it was abdominal. Saw the sac and the foetus which had a tiny flickering heartbeat and was the size of a grain of rice. Said grain of rice is currently holding his ddad hostage with endless bedtime stories Grin

pickleface · 16/06/2019 19:11

I had an abdominal scan at 6+3 and saw everything.

WombatStewForTea · 16/06/2019 19:27

Thanks all! Seems like a real split between abdominal and trans vaginal! Will drink the water and hope for abdominal but be prepared for a vaginal scan!
Fingers crossed everything will be fine and we'll see that heartbeat then we're going to tell our parents

@WombatStewForTea I had at scan at 6+1 and whilst all I really saw was a blob I did see the heart flickering away. I had one again at 9+1 and it was much more baby like. I've attached the first one for you.

I had a scan at 7+5, abdominal...I really didn't want the pole!! But later in this pregnancy I had internal scan to check my cervix, and it really wasn't that bad! a lot, lot more comfortable then a smear anyway.

As I really wanted a abdominal I came with a very full bladder, sonographer even commented how full it was, said she was surprised I could walk!

Good luck, I also had early scan due to early mc last year (November), early pregnancy is really tough after mc but it will get easier. I'm 24 weeks now xxx

PrayingandHoping · 16/06/2019 20:20

I've had several internal scans due to fertility issues/ivf and then early scans. They really are not anything to worry about. Compared to a smear test they are a walk in the park! Lol

tisonlymeagain · 16/06/2019 20:30

That's exactly what the sonographer said to me @PrayingandHoping, she said it's nowhere near as bad as a smear test and she was right!

I had an external and internal at 5+4. Interestingly, the external was way clearer for viewing the yolk sac. I have a 7+1 scan later this week and I fully expect that to be external.

keepingbees · 16/06/2019 20:36

I had a (private) scan at 7 weeks and it was abdominal only. Baby looked like a floating wotsit with a heartbeat.

babysharkah · 16/06/2019 21:16

I had one at 7+3 following two Mmc. Abdominal picked up ID twins. Then had TV to check for membranes between the two but abdominal should be enough for one!

Aww that's great news @WombatStewForTea!

4 more sleeps and I am so hoping to see the same.

m0therofdragons · 17/06/2019 20:05

I had both as abdominal didn't show enough. Mine at 7w 2d showed blob with no heartbeat. We were devastated and went back 10 days later as I hadn't miscarried as they'd expected... this abdominal scan showed 2 strong heart beats. My ID twins are asleep as we speak. Early scans are not always as reassuring as you'd hope.

WombatStewForTea · 17/06/2019 22:29

Had to report post as I forgot to crop my name out Blush
Scan went well and got to see the little heartbeat fluttering so feeling very relieved
