I think i'm eating too much - safe to cut down?

Hiya peeps.

I'm a bit worried about my food consumption. I seem to be eating loads of crap just for the sake of it. It's not because I'm hungry most of the time, but because i know i can eat it, IYSWIM.

For instance, for breakfast i'll have 2 bits of toast (that's ok) but then i'll have crisps mid-morning or summat because i'm bored at work and because i know i wont get questioned or commented on from my work colleagues.

Then at lunchtime i'll go out and lately i've been buying TWO sarnies. Not because i'm hungry, but because i'm being greedy. Then after those i'll have a mousse and then something else crappy mid-afternoon. Then i'll have two bits of fruit on the train on the way home (still not coz of hunger but "just because i can").

So i'm thinking that i need to nip this destructive eating pattern in the bud before it gets too bad. Do you think it'd be perfectly safe for me to, for instance, instead of having 2 sarnies at lunchtime, to have a few ryvitas with philly & cucumber on top and then some cottage cheese later if i'm actually hungry, with some fruit later in the day on the train? Of course i can vary my lunches with a salad or pasta etc when i get bored of ryvitas (i actually FANCY them atm). Then in the evening have a balanced portionated dinner (both my DP and I pile our plates up waaaay too much and then wonder why we feel sick from being stuffed too much!!).

I'm a "curvacious" lady anyway, so it's not like i dont have the resources for baby to feed on!

This will be ok, right?

great, RG!

have been chomping on 'low GI' bread, i.e. packed with seeds and nuts. yum. sorry, this thread is turning into food porn!

dal21 · 26/07/2007 12:56

LOL at food porn! maybe we should start action out on food fantasies! actually would probably be too cruel on us preggers lot!

RGPargy · 26/07/2007 14:18

Oh i dont know, Dal. At least we could realise our fantasies!!

Oh and i should have it's not no carb. bloomin' typos!!

you're up the duff already so what's the risk?

dal21 · 26/07/2007 18:36

ladies would be a dangerous game

bohemianbint · 26/07/2007 18:47

Sorry, not read the whole thread but just wanted to say that I was in the same boat when I was pregnant, stuffed my face most of the time! First of all it was because I felt nauseous and nibbling stuff seemed to keep it at bay, and then after that it was just cos I could!

Put on 4 stones. 1 stone came out the day I gave birth (baby, water etc) and 2 came off quite easily. Still have a stone to go (after a year) until I get back down to pre-preg weight. Then I had another stone to go anyway before I get to my ideal weight.

Spose I'm trying to say that it's not the end of the world, most of it has come off, mainly due to the breastfeeding (fab way to shift it!) and now I can be arsed I'm going to get the last stone off. So don't worry to much, obviously if you catch yourself eating for eating's sake recognise it and see if you can stop it, but otherwise enjoy and worry about it later! (oh, and I always found those charts that tell you what "normal" weight gain is to be total bllocks!)

dal21 · 26/07/2007 19:13

Oh BB - wish it could be so! Think healthy eating is ingrained into me! The guilt is too bad otherwise. Oh the pressure we women put on ourselves when it comes to weight and food! well i do anyways!

Brummie - here's the link i promised you yesterday:

Linda's Low Carb Recipes

I have to say that i haven't tried an awful lot from the site (out of laziness) but i have tried the mushroom quiche and it's absolutely to DIE for!!!!

Only thing is that it's in American measurements so you might have to google the conversions. Other than that, it's a great site!

There are LOADS of recipes on there! Fantastic! tks so much. (oh, we seem to have turned your 'I want to eat less' thread into a food fest )

RGPargy · 31/07/2007 13:08

Yeah well, that's the best way forward really, isn't it?!!!

Now, what to have for lunch.....

RGP - you havent had lunch yet? mine was polished off by 12.15! was ravenous!

RGPargy · 31/07/2007 15:02

Dal - nah i have this terrible thing of being soooo indecisive about what to have. I was talking to my friend at work about it and she heard that if you're umming and ahing about what to eat then you're not actually hungry at all, but just want to eat out of habit of it being lunch time!

I ended up having the worst cheese & onion sarnie from Boots in the end. The bread was stale and there was no butter inside so i had to liven it up a bit with some philly i had in the fridge at work. TBH it was a piss poor effort of a sandwich!!!

dal21 · 31/07/2007 16:55

Ahh, i see the umming and ahhing never happens with me as I bring in homemade sarnies with me (when i am not eating watery porridge that is!) - find shop ones absolutely abysmal. I had tuna, with a little mayo, fresh cracked pepper and rocket on spelt bread today! And it hit the spot! Do you have sandwich envy?

Jbck · 31/07/2007 22:22

I went for a lovely curry today for lunch, loads of naan, yum. Trouble was it really upset my tummy if you get my drift, at least I'll not put on much weight from it. Must be pg cos normally I've one of those cast iron constitutions.
Just had some cheese on toast so I didn't go to bed on an empty stomach. I'll not be doing the curry trick when I'm due just in case
