Where to put newborn during the day

Hey!
I'm looking at options for where to place baby during the day and could really use some advice

If I was to cover all bases it seems I need a Moses basket for sleep and some kind of rocker for awake time

Is there anything out there that does both? I don't mind buying what's needed but don't want too much unnecessary stuff either!

My other consideration is that we have a dog & most rockers are close to the ground which could be a pain keeping the dog away (although he's a very calm dog so I'm not even sure if this is a non issue)

The only item I have found that potentially does everything is the icandy michair with newborn pod. It seems the pod could be suitable for sleep and awake time but not 100% sure on this.

Thoughts would be gratefully received!!!

I'm planning to get a wrap so I can keep her strapped to me for some of the day. We've also got a basinet as part of our travel system. Otherwise, I'd say perhaps just see how you get on. There's not much you can't get next day from Amazon, and you just don't know what kind of baby you'll have. They might want to be touching you 24/7!

MustardScreams · 17/05/2019 18:02

You can just put the bouncer on a table. Newborns don’t tend to move much so you should be fine.

Just prepare yourself for having a baby that will not be put down on anything at all, and will only settle in your arms/on you. That was a bloody shock to the system when dd came along! You might be lucky and get a baby that doesn’t mind, but it’s worth managing expectations before arrival.

I used a sleepyhead which I had on the sofa.

SweepTheHalls · 17/05/2019 18:03

Get a pram with a decent carry cot that they can sleep in in the day, so when you want to go out you can!

userabcname · 17/05/2019 18:04

Ime newborns tend to mostly be in your arms! Did use the bassinet on the pram downstairs on the rare occasions DS would let me put him down. Once he was a bit bigger I used to put him in a bouncer chair that had a vibrate setting - he liked that and it was good at getting up stubborn wind too!

SignedUpJust4This · 17/05/2019 18:04

Mine went in a carry cot for naps and bouncy vibrating chair. The chair is a godsend.

owlofathena · 17/05/2019 18:11

I put dd in her pram during the day. We got a bouncer chair when she was about 8 weeks which we placed on the dining table (we also have a dog)

lookingatthings · 17/05/2019 18:16

Mine absolutely hates his bouncy vibrating chair. Loves being in his carrycot though. We didn't get a moses basket- carrycot is fine for long sleeps as it has a firm mattress. He prefers most of all to be held so the stretchy sling was a godsend and if I could have a do over I'd only purchase those two things : carrycot travel system and a stretchy wrap.

Use something you already have until you find out whether the baby is of the velcro type or not. Most babies want to be with you almost all day.
The only thing I’ve got use of is a cushioned mat on the bathroom floor so I can pee without holding the baby.

SoyDora · 17/05/2019 18:22

I’ve had three and none of them really tolerated being put anywhere for the first 3 months! DC3 is 4 months now and will happily roll around on a playmat on the floor, but he was only really happy in my arms for the first 8-12 weeks.

HoustonBess · 17/05/2019 18:35

Soft sling is your best bet. The baby will be out of the way if the dog, easier to keep warm and get to sleep but you have hands free to do stuff.

A lot of babies will tell you quite loudly that they don't like being put down, whether in basket, bouncer or cot.

Frazzled2207 · 17/05/2019 18:49

Yeah some don't like being put down at all. I learnt this the hard way Hmm. That said If baby will tolerate it the bouncy chairs are great.

ThisIsTheEndgame · 17/05/2019 18:50

Do not put a bouncer on a table as per a pp's suggestion.

ThisIsTheEndgame · 17/05/2019 18:51

Anyway my DC liked being in (variously) the carrycot from the Uppababy Vista on a Moses basket stand, my lap, and a Fisher price swinging chair.

Newbie1981 · 17/05/2019 18:54

In my opinion, you don't need a rocker. Mine went to waste really as they grow out of them quickly and may as well be on a mat on the floor. A baby gym is cheaper than a rocker I think so could get one of those

JustLooking2019 · 17/05/2019 18:54

Take a look at the Tiny Love Rocker Napper, sounds like it does everything you are looking for

Newbie1981 · 17/05/2019 18:55

Ah sorry for not reading properly. The floor isn't an option for you with the dog I guess. But I stand by the rocker being a waste of money. Moses basket and being held would be enough, but that's just my opinion

MoreSlidingDoors · 17/05/2019 19:00

Read up on the fourth trimester and do some arm weight training.

Drogonssmile · 17/05/2019 19:02

I used this for my second. It was invaluable.

Tootyfrooty35 · 17/05/2019 19:07

My 6wo loves his bouncy chair, but he also loves being in the stretchy sling... He's my third and they've all been different but definitely have something in each room. I have a mat in the bathroom, as a Pp said so I can wee without holding him, bouncy chair in kitchen and big cushion in playroom so I can set him down to play with my other two. Also a play mat thing with dangly toys, started using this two weeks ago and he's fallen asleep on it quite a bit too.

lillsmum · 17/05/2019 19:43

Tiny Love 3in1 rocker napper is amazing. My DD is 6 months old and still uses it. If she falls asleep I pop the legs out so she's nice and flat.

spugzbunny · 17/05/2019 19:58

My baby refused to spend any time in the moses. She was either in her bouncer or on me (or in a sling).

If I did it again I'd get this as it converts to a flat lay basket for when they fall asleep and you can continue to rock. My baby wanted constant movement!

Rarfy · 17/05/2019 20:02

My 4 month old dd was in the pram at first but its high up and other side of room and I found I wanted to keep an eye on her so went out and bought a moses basket. We also have a dog so sofa is kot suitable as ours jumps up. She has a swing too. The mamas and papas one. That's good now she is a bit older I can put her in it to watch TV whilst I do house work and it reclines. A cheaper bouncer probs would have done the job just as well.

NameChangedNoImagination · 17/05/2019 20:03

My baby lived in Moses basket and didn't need anything else. But she was an exceptionally sleepy baby and didn't really 'do' awake until she was about 3 months.

TildaTurnip · 17/05/2019 20:04

Mine hated the three different chairs I tried-swing, rocker and rocker/vibrating. So I too would wait to see if yours accepts being in one-maybe borrow one if possible?
