When did you start buying things?

I'm -barely- only just pregnant (around 4/5 weeks) I have my booking in appointment on the 28th and way off a 12 week scan.

Did anyone start buying just little things just to have something physical to be excited over. I absolutely cannot wait to start getting little bits and pieces but also feel I'll look like a nutter.

So my question is, did you buy as soon as you found out or what until after 12 weeks scan?

I've decided after my 12 weeks scan I will write a list of everything I need. I'll do research and pick the exact models I want. Then I'm gonna keep my eye out for when these things go into the sale and buy them as and when. Helps spread the cost out too.

PrayingandHoping · 14/05/2019 13:17

We aren't buying anything until after 20 week scan and even then that will be mainly researching what we want rather than a tailor buying it too early and having boxes of stuff around

MIL did send us a knitted caddy at the weekend (nearly 15 weeks now)

MrFlibblesEyes · 14/05/2019 17:11

We're also not buying anything until after the 20 week scan (although we have been given a couple of baby name books from excited future grandparents)! Two weeks tomorrow... 😍

youngfreeandnotsingle · 14/05/2019 17:17

We've got the 12 week scan next week and plan on buying a couple of neutral baby clothes but I think first priority will be buying clothes for myself that I'll be able to fit in to!

Andrea91 · 14/05/2019 17:19

When I was 20 weeks pregnant and had scans and heard heartbeat.

SpringLake · 14/05/2019 17:20

I'm just past my 12wk scan and trying so hard to research, but not buy! It's difficult! We're having some building work done soon which is probably the only thing stopping me at the moment (house is already upside down in preparation!).
We have a short holiday shortly after our 20wk scan, so hoping I can hold off until after that... apart from bump-clothes... which is going to be fun in the meantime :)

Alena92 · 14/05/2019 17:22

I didn’t buy anything other than nappies and baby grows until the baby was born

melissa1215 · 14/05/2019 17:22

We started around 16 weeks, family started at 12 weeks. I'm almost 20 weeks now and we plan on decorating his nursery in about a month or so

NicciLovesSundays · 14/05/2019 17:37

Im 22 weeks and have only bought one thing - a teeny cardigan. It was bought as a gift for someone else and then we decided to keep it instead as it was too cute.

Have been given a car seat and a bouncy chair already and will also be getting a cot and pram from the same person - it takes the pressure off alot. My mother in law also still had a baby bath so that will be one less thing to buy too.

I will probably see about ordering a new mattress for the cot and getting a few babygrows and reusable wipes in the next month or two.

Im hoping to breast feed and am not too sure about the idea of using a pump...Just going to see how things go with that and buy things as and when needed.

I dont think you need to have everything straight away, I want to wait as long as possible, if for no other reason than people will continue to pass things on to us and give us gifts.

Angelinthenightx · 14/05/2019 17:44

We are not buying until 28wk+ as we lost a baby at 20wks so we like to wait until we are almost at a safe time.

Megan2018 · 14/05/2019 17:49

I didn't buy anything until after 20 week scan. 12 weeks is a very arbitrary time scale and there are still considerable losses after 12 weeks.

I wanted to take advantage of Real Nappy fortnight though so bought lots of nappies in the deals which coincided with my 20 week scan but I would have left it longer otherwise.

We are going to look at prams once I hit 25 weeks (currently 22+5).

Tobebythesea · 14/05/2019 17:55

We waited until after 24 weeks when the baby is considered viable.

chocolatebuttonsandcheese · 14/05/2019 18:00

20 week scam 100%

ryanreynolds · 14/05/2019 18:03

We didn't buy anything until about 30 weeks. Did research after 20 weeks but no actual purchasing.

Expressedways · 14/05/2019 18:09

I didn’t even think about buying anything until after the 20 week scan. If nothing else, it’s a pain to store stuff for that long.

ContadoraExplorer · 14/05/2019 18:19

29/30 weeks but only because Amazon just had a great deal on a baby wish list (20% off) would have held off a little longer if it didn't have an end date (end of April)

Lisalou88 · 14/05/2019 18:24

I’m 18 weeks and waiting till I have my 20 week scan in a few weeks before I buy anything.

Fuiseog · 14/05/2019 19:02

We bought the cutest little two pack of vests the day of our early scan (at eight weeks only) so that we would have something from the first time we heard the baby's heartbeat ❤️ I'm really glad we did that.

We're not going to buy much till after 20 weeks though. We'll allow ourselves a few small bits (like hats/babygrows/one or two board books) if we find anything irresistibly cute after 12 weeks, but not much and no big items till the anatomy scan.

I know what you mean about being so excited you want to buy straight away though! What we have done to make it feel we are preparing and "buying" for baby without really buying baby stuff is make a list of things we want sorted in the house before the baby arrives. We're only in our house a year so have lots of jobs and some purchases left. By making them "baby jobs" because it will be easier if they are done before the baby arrives, it feels like getting ready even though they are really just house jobs. For example, one thing is a microwave! Definitely not just for a baby, but we have it on our list as something we can do before 20 weeks to help us prepare.

FirstTimeMum1984 · 14/05/2019 22:01

My boyfriend won't even let me look at stuff until after the 20 week scan! Although I somehow managed to get him in the baby section of John Lewis whilst his guard was down so we have actually chosen what pram we want.

I'm 18 weeks and we have 2 houses to sell and 1 forever home to buy in the next 22 weeks so we won't buy anything until as late as possible as more stuff to move!

Wish me luck ladies, I'm going to need it!

Sandrine1982 · 16/05/2019 09:16

I'll start buying things in the last two months ...

Whoopsies · 16/05/2019 10:11

I'm 28 weeks and not bought anytning yet!! Once the work on our house is finished i will start, ill3be about 32 weeks!

lelrx · 16/05/2019 10:16

I'm usually really impatient! But when I found out I was pregnant I was soooo laid back about getting things, I started buying into the 20 or so weeks but had loads bought for us! We've barely spent a penny which is so lovely of everyone, again sorting her nursery etc I have been so laid back I'm not 37+5 and just about ready for her arrival and I'm waiting eagerly for her!

Aimily · 16/05/2019 10:22

We started at 20 weeks(ish) as MiL took me shopping, we ordered the travel system about then too. I'm now 31 weeks and my parents have just bought us the cot.

We only really have nappies and cleaning supplies left to buy, I'll probably start getting those bits with the weekly shops in the coming weeks 🙂.

Congratulations btw

MeredithGrey1 · 16/05/2019 10:35

Before the 12 week scan the only thing I bought was a little babygro that said I love Daddy as it was DH's birthday when we were around 9 weeks so I got it as a little extra present. We'd had a private scan at 7 weeks where we saw the heartbeat.

We bought the pram and car seat at around 16 weeks because there was an offer on the one we wanted where the car seat came free with the pram.
