First pregnancy I finished at 29 weeks as we were moving 100 miles away. Second I finished at 36 weeks and third at 37 weeks.
Totally depends on how you feel, what kind of job you do and how supportive you're work is.

Gazelda · 10/05/2019 15:06

Completely depends on what job you do and any problems with the pregnancy.

I stopped at 36 weeks as my role included lots of driving which was very uncomfortable.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 10/05/2019 15:08

Finished at 38 weeks- holding my bladder for my commute at that point was uncomfortable.
Depends what you do - “working” = stressful isn’t always the case.

Teddybear45 · 10/05/2019 15:20

I’m thinking about this now. It’s very possible I might go at around 34 weeks because of my commute and also because returning from Maternity at the end of October / November when it’s more chilled out is the best possible thing to do in my industry. Obviously it depends on how I cope with maternity leave. If I want to go back early I will.

Aimily · 10/05/2019 15:22

I've been told to take my annual leave (3 weeks of it at 10 weeks) as I'm getting overwhelmed and stressed. At the end of the month my manager and I will review if I will return for 6 weeks or start my maternity leave at 33 weeks.

Aimily · 10/05/2019 15:22

Sorry that should have said 30 weeks not 10.

Fortheloveofbaths · 10/05/2019 15:25

I took mine at 34 weeks as I had a lot of annual leave so 4 weeks AL and then my maternity starts at 38 :-) I work in a very manual job though and it involves me lifting heavy equipment and wearing heavy protective wear so that's why :-) I thought it might be too early but tbh my back is killing by the end of the day and I'm looking forward to the next few weeks of calm before baby arrives 😂

CherryPavlova · 10/05/2019 15:34

40 weeks with my last. 39 weeks with my first.

Bringbackthestripes · 10/05/2019 15:37

I was on my (very swollen) feet 9 hours a day until 2 weeks before I gave birth.

MaverickSnoopy · 10/05/2019 15:41

I have a desk based job and with my first I stopped at 38 weeks. I was more than ready for it as I had awful pgp and sciatica and was struggling daily. In hindsight I should have finished sooner but I wanted more time with baby after and actually she was 10 days late. With my second I finished at 29 weeks as I had even worse pgp and sciatica and work was becoming so stressful and they didn't understand how much pain I was in and kept asking unreasonable things of me. I took a period of sick leave and then annual leave which meant that my mat leave actually began at 38 weeks. With my third I was working term time only so had a natural finish before the summer holidays at 29 weeks - again much needed with sciatica and pgp.

Swings and roundabouts with both but if it's your first and your job/commute doesn't push you too much then as late as possible. Although I always advocate for a bit of time at home to get everything ready and do some batch cooking.

Mintypea5 · 10/05/2019 15:43

38 weeks DS1
35 weeks DS2 (complicates pregnancy)
Planning 38 weeks with Baby 3

Depends on your job really and how the pregnancy has been. Also consider if you finish early does that affect how long you get off after. With DS1 I finished at 38 weeks then he didn't come til 42 so I "lost" a month and had to go back to work when he was 5 months

TashaW19 · 10/05/2019 15:45

Thanks for all the feed back
Well my job is pretty easy other then the sweeping and mopping and stairs . I get lower stomach cramps .. Then have to take a 20 minute break . And that work's sometimes. I don't wanna stop working yet because i didn't start buying anything for my baby but clothes and a bath.. My pay isn't the greatest .. But thanks for some of the idea's of when I should start thinking about it 😊

I got home from work and an hour later my waters broke 6 weeks early so right until last second! With this one i spend 56 hours a week sat down but my journey is about 27 miles but will still probably go as long as i can but im expecting the same as with my 1st x

InDubiousBattle · 10/05/2019 17:14

38 weeks with my first, I remember wishing I'd done another week. With my second I would have really struggled at 34 weeks I think.

Biancadelrioisback · 10/05/2019 18:07

I had planned to stop at 36 weeks but ended up in spontaneous labour during running someone's wedding at 34 and had DS about 8 hours later

Russell19 · 11/05/2019 10:25

@aimily you sound like you are being forced to use holiday?? Just use sick leave? Xx

WhiteVixen · 11/05/2019 11:17

I’ll have a couple of weeks annual leave to use so at the most I’ll be stopping at 38 weeks. I might go a week earlier, not sure yet. I’m only 17 weeks now so plenty of time to decide.

Aimily · 11/05/2019 11:24

@Russell sorry no, worded that a bit wrong. It was a joint discussion as I'd asked fur the meeting to pull things forward, I. E rather than finish at 37 weeks as planned on AL, I finish at 33, but I've been such an emotional wreak fir the past few weeks, stressing myself out and feeling overwhelmed that my manager was concerned about my mh. I've seen the nurse at my Dr's and she's said that I need to try and calm myself down (I'm making stupid mistakes, forgetting basic things like not passing messages suffering with serious brain fog and basically beating myself up over it)

Company I work for is stat for sick and AL, so by taking AL its financially better than taking sick iyswim?

SockQueen · 11/05/2019 11:28

I finished yesterday at 36+2, this is my 2nd pregnancy. My job is relatively physical though - transferring patients on and off operating tables, being on my feet to do procedures, and my bump is now so big that it's getting in the way of some of that. I finished at 37 weeks last time and didn't have DS till 42, I was going a bit crazy by that time but I couldn't have continued safely any longer.

MonicaGellerHyphenBing · 11/05/2019 12:50

I finished at 37 weeks and DD arrived just under 2 weeks later. I had an office job with a relatively stress-free commute. I’ve just found I’m pregnant again and due in January, so will likely finish before Christmas when I’m 36ish weeks. I’m glad I had a couple of weeks to rest and prepare before the baby arrived.
