Birthing pool - what to wear?

Not 100% sure if I want to use the birthing pool for early labour, was going to just go with tens machine but was told I can alternate between the two. So wondering what is best to wear in the birthing pool?

I took a bikini and tank top. On the day, I was so desperate to get in (5cm when arrived at hospital) that I just stripped off and got in. My bikini remained bone dry. So I guess take options and see how you feel on the day?

LuckyKitty13 · 09/05/2019 12:41

I has the urge to strip off so wore nothing (apart from socks which I forgot to take off!!)

butterwithtoast · 09/05/2019 12:42

I took a vest top to wear but couldn't be hassled when it came to it and just went in naked.

butterwithtoast · 09/05/2019 12:43

I would recommend taking a nice big towel though, hospital towels are pretty rubbish and if you're in and out of the pool you'll want to dry off and keep warm

Stretchy crop top style bra, I thought I'd be much more self conscious, but I really didn't care! Jxx

fitzbilly · 09/05/2019 12:47

Take a bikini, but you won't wear it 😁

SoupDragon · 09/05/2019 12:48

I wore a "secret support" vest top. Something like a maternity tankini top would do the job.

A giant towelling dressing gown would be good for if you are in and out of the pool. Or do they do adult sizes of those kids towel tunic things?

Cantthinkofausername1990 · 09/05/2019 12:50

Thanks all, did you find the pool helped to relax you?

@ LuckyKitty13
That is something to look back and laugh at, forgetting to take your socks off Grin

I wore a soft sports type bra. No undies!

Karwomannghia · 09/05/2019 12:53

I wore a bikini top.

Teddybear45 · 09/05/2019 12:56

It might help to go in wearing what you intend to wear in the pool.

Ex28 · 09/05/2019 12:57

I took a bikini top but I ended up not even getting in the pool. I’d take something just in case.

nomoreusernamesleft · 09/05/2019 13:00

I was so desperate to get in as I had to wait for DP to fill it up (tried to give birth at home). I kept getting in and out and kept wearing DPs t shirts. Think I got about 10 of them wet 😂.

WhatwouldRuthdo · 09/05/2019 13:01

I wore a maternity tankini top. Take something and then you can always change your mind when you arrive.

Emelene · 09/05/2019 13:09

I had a vest top but didn't wear it. Grin

firstimemamma · 09/05/2019 13:17

I packed a bikini top but when it actually came down to it I just stripped down to my bra and got straight in! Didn't even think about my bikini, it stayed in the bag! Good luck op

TerriB1984 · 09/05/2019 15:48

I wore a crop top style sports bra and nothing else. I used a tens machine at home and then the pool once I got to the hospital. For me personally I found the pool more helpful than the tens machine and once I got in I never got out! DD was born in the water.

Poppins2016 · 09/05/2019 15:52

I took a bikini but once I got to the hospital I didn't even give it a single thought, got straight into the pool naked!

kgeal3 · 09/05/2019 16:16

I wore a bikini top, triangle one from primark for £2 then just threw it away after. I've bought one again incase I get to have a water birth this time. I found the triangle bikini top covers the boobs but didn't restrict that lovely skin on skin contact afterwards. I wore a bikini top as my mother in law came to my births, not that she would of cared if I was topless though

okkkorniienko · 09/05/2019 16:24

Oh thats a very big problem,i ll have a child in 6 month and go out because i m very shy.Help me girls.

ohwouldntitbenice · 09/05/2019 16:27

I took an old vest top to wear but in the end just stripped off and got in. I found the water to be amazing pain relief and am definitely hoping for a water birth with my second.

BelulahBlanca · 09/05/2019 16:29

I was nude too but had not been planning to have a water birth.

ohdearymemumof3 · 09/05/2019 16:53

I was naked.. in so much pain i didnt give a stuff.

Cantthinkofausername1990 · 09/05/2019 17:08

Glad to hear the water really helped. I'll pick up a bikini top then, thanks for all the advice. No point paying a lot of money for a maternity tankini top when most people have just ended up getting in naked!

@Username1990 Honestly, it was the best choice for me. I was getting hysterical before I got in because of the pain but it calmed me down.
