Hi guys. I'm going on a hen party next week and I'm 3weeks pregnant, I'm just wondering what excuses you all used when you were newly pregnant for not drinking alcohol. 🙈 it will be very unusual of me to not drink so it needs to be something convincing. No one knows I'm pregnant yet except my boyfriend but just waiting until 12 weeks scam before we tell friends and family. And excuses would be greatly appreciated lol xxxx

You're on antibiotics and can't drink on them is always a one I've used. Massive congratulations on your pregnancy

Offer to buy the first round, pretend you’re on a vodka / cocktail and then nurse it.

Offer to be the designated driver....
Or the old anti biotic trick
Either way, if it’s unusual for you not to drink your friends will guess!

I used white wine and soda in a long glass for my first one hardly drank any and then kept going the bar myself for another soda to top the glass up. If where you are going does mocktails then go for them !

Saying you're on antibiotics is the biggest giveaway ever, well in my experience it is.

Best thing you can do is pretend to drink, so have a glass of wine and conveniently get rid of it or get a soft drink and pretend it's got vodka in it.

Otherwise your only other option is to tell people early.

Most people know antibiotics = pregnancy but are generally polite enough not to challenge you on it. I’ve always found not mentioning drinking and pretending to drink the best thing as once most people have had one or two they don’t notice what everyone else is up to. If you have one person you can trust with your news even better as you can pass all your drinks over to them on the sly

I offered to be the driver, have done this before so not completely unusual for me. Would new health plan with no alcohol cut it with your friends or would they suspect? Most people will suspect anyway, I know I did when a newly pregnant friend used the antibiotic line!

Pretend to drink. I don't drink myself but my friends all can't understand it and think I'm being boring so I just have to pretend I do drink. Pretend you're on spirits or ask for a drink in a wine glass. if someone offers you a drink get an alcohol one then just don't drink it and manage to lose it. a few hours in and nobody will notice a thing.
if you say you aren't drinking people will just make a deal out of it I've found - not that it concerns them at all.

As above, sooo many fewer questions if you just nurse a glass of wine for hours. They won’t notice after they’ve had a few drinks.

I have a hen do and a wedding before our 12 week scan & we announce to everyone but my excuse is going to be on a new weight loss programme which means no alcohol ready for our holiday at the end of June as everyone knows I wanted too lose some beforehand 🙈

Antibiotics is a real giveaway to me! I would go with the suggestion of either buying the first round and then no one knows you have a mocktail, or holding onto a drink all evening.

There are very few antibiotics that you can't drink with so everyone knows your pg as soon as you spout the 'antibiotics' nonsense

Being on a diet could be a winner though.
Or you could say you're an alcoholic. So can't drink any more, you're sober.

You need to confide in one other hen and fake drink ! Nurse one glass of wine pass her your shots - drink spirits and mixer minus the spirits - we helped a friend do this for a whole weekend away and nobody had a clue - good luck it can be done !

Don't use the antibiotics line. 1. It's mostly not true, you can drink on many antibiotics 2. It's the classic "I'm pregnant but not telling anyone yet" line.

Drink non alcoholic gin anyone who tries a sip won't know the difference.

Just got my first positive and om due to go on a hen do the beginning of June.
I'm a bridesmaid and usually am abit of a drinker so it's going to be so obvious when I'm not drinking!

Also a smoker and I know they'll question why I'm not doing both of them

Say you're on metronidazole for a tooth problem.Dentist told me cant drink on them because they make you sick.

Whinge to all your friends this week about a tooth abscess and 'get' an emergency appointment at the dentists. Then whinge even more and 'threaten' not to attend because you can't have a drink.

Can't remember offhand the name of the antibiotic which really does warrant not drinking (most are ok if you don't go mad) and make sure you mention it by name - it is most often prescribed for dental issues and will make you really poorly if you drink on it.

Patient - you could say that you’re stopping smoking and booze is your main trigger for smoking so you cant drink!

Agree with others tho, the antibiotic is a massive give away for PG.

So in a few days time start complaining of ear ache, toothache or something.Then say 2 days before the hen do that you are going to have to go Drs.
Then the antibiotic trick is backed up. I have been known to drink on antibiotics (yes, I am an idiot)
So I have said I have a cyst in an intimate area. Dr had to cut it to extract the crap and put me on antibiotics. That seemed to work quite well!

I have also managed to get a friend that had no idea, but managed to get her to bet me that I couldn't go a night out without drinking! I won the bet, but when it was time to tell her about the baby, I gave her the money back and we had a good giggle about how snidey I was!

Don't mention anything to start with. If others ask why your not drinking could you not make up an important event the next day that you need to be clear headed for. Just don't go into too much detail whatever your excuse.
