Going on hen party and no one knows I'm pregnant yet.

Hi guys. I'm going on a hen party next week and I'm 3weeks pregnant, I'm just wondering what excuses you all used when you were newly pregnant for not drinking alcohol. 🙈 it will be very unusual of me to not drink so it needs to be something convincing. No one knows I'm pregnant yet except my boyfriend but just waiting until 12 weeks scam before we tell friends and family. And excuses would be greatly appreciated lol xxxx

Tonic water and lime/lemon etc works a dream

Mummyshark2018 · 08/05/2019 19:15

Don't say antibiotics as you can drink whilst in some of them. I would either pretend to drink (gin and tonic aka soda water and lime). Tbh I have guessed everytime a friend has been pregnant. I obviously haven't outted them but I can easily tell based on behaviour. Can you recruit 1 trusted friend to help you out?

lrh3891 · 08/05/2019 19:15

Firstly, @Iputthescrewinthetuna you're not an idiot for drinking when on abx- with almost all of them, the only reason not to is that if you're sick you probably shouldn't be drinking.

Secondly- the antibiotics excuse is transparent (in anyone who knows that there are only one or two- rarely used- antibiotics which really interact with alcohol) but people are generally polite enough when sober not to bring it up.

I had the exact same situation @Crazycowlady2 - I went for broke and said I had been suffering from a bad bout of cystitis. Alcohol is absolutely awful for cystitis so a very good excuse, and people generally don't want to ask too many questions about it!

lrh3891 · 08/05/2019 19:15

Ps, congratulations! And have fun :)

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 08/05/2019 19:19

Really?? I can drink on antibiotics! Yay! This fills me with far too much joy!

Op, after learning this don't use the antibiotics trick!

The beg worked well though!

Op what do you usually drink?

Iputthescrewinthetuna · 08/05/2019 19:20

Bet

Rystall · 08/05/2019 19:21

Congratulations!!!

Don’t think you should use some elaborate/ made up excuse. Or use antibiotics ( unless you want to be the talk of the hen!!!) Agree with PP.... offer to get the 1st round. Tonic with ice & a slice of lime in a gin glass looks the part. If there’s wine at the meal, take a glass, nurse it, walk around with the glass and tip some out or just abandon it somewhere. After the 1st hour, no one notices anymore!

Hey! I thought I’d chip in as this was me a couple of weekends ago.
Firstly, is it a hen ‘night’ or weekend? Night you could probably get away with having one and losing it somewhere or buying your own drinks and if people comment that you aren’t drinking very much say you aren’t feeling well.
I went away for a weekend a couple of weeks ago and had to enlist the help of a friend to drink my drinks when no one was looking when we were at dinner 🙈!
Then other times I just pretended and then said I wasn’t feeling well. I think I got away with it, no one asked which was good 😊!
I am not one to ever turn down a glass of wine and have never been on antibiotics so it would have been a massive giveaway for me.
If you can trust one friend, that might take the pressure off!
I’m bridesmaid next weekend and have to try and get through the wedding next...!!

Good luck and congratulations!! 😃

Crazycowlady2 · 08/05/2019 19:38

Thanks for all your replies.

It is a hen weekend in a hen party house so we are all going to be very close 🙈

I like the ideas of drinking soda etc but I only drink water, lager and milk! Obviously not at the same time! 😂 I really don't like anything else hahah.

I am going to tell the hen herself this weekend so she doesn't think I'm a boring arse lol

Any other suggestions?

congratulations.
Honestly? Just tell them. They're going to work it out in 2 seconds flat anyway. They can all go nuts over you for 10 minutes* and then go back to mainlining their porn star martinis.

*actually about 7 less if they've got my interest in other people's pregnancies.

GreyGables · 08/05/2019 19:55

Maybe try switching to Diet Coke/Pepsi? Then if out/having drinks say “rum and coke” and offer to pour, obviously skipping the rum for you! Or get up with yours and say “I must have the full-fat/regular Coke, can’t drink this, way too sugary!” Pour the alcoholic one away & make yourself a fresh one - voila!

PugPupsMum · 08/05/2019 19:55

Agree with everyone saying just pretend to drink. Honestly, no one will notice. If possible get 1 friend on board so they can get your “drinks” for you as well. My go to was soda & lime in a gin class, appletiser in a wine glass, or just coke and pretend it’s vodka and rum or coke. If anyone gets you a drink, just hold it for a while then ditch it.

I got away with this for 16 weeks, including a lot of “boozy” nights out.

If you say antibiotics they’ll all just ask you outright “omg are you pregnant???” It’s the most obvious excuse.

TheCraicDealer · 08/05/2019 20:05

Yeah there's only two types of antibiotic you can't drink on, so you might get cornered if someone asks you what type and announces "oh no you can drink on those- here's a glass of Prosecco!".

Agree with PP's- tell one friend and only take "a drink" when either one of you is fetching a round in. Much easier to feign if you've got a co-conspirator, and so long as you don't have an empty glass too often no-one should catch on as they'll all be too busy playing 'pin the jonny on the bride' or whatever. If someone says something about you not drinking much then you can say you're on a diet or taking it easy as you have to drive in the morning or something.

PJMasksAreOnTheirWay · 08/05/2019 20:38

If you say you’re on antibiotics you might as well be waving a large banner saying ‘I’m pregnant!’.

costacoffeecup · 08/05/2019 21:10

Antibiotics totally Obvious, you might as well just announce you're pregnant.

Yes to order and pretend. When everyone else has had a few they won't be keeping track of you.

melonballer1234 · 08/05/2019 21:15

You defo need an inside woman to drink your drinks/ make you fake looking ones. It makes it so much less stressful knowing you have someone to help you in your deceit

ELM8 · 08/05/2019 22:42

I've been in this position a few times (social occasions rather than a hen party though, a boozy work conference and a couple of family parties). Here is what worked for me:

  • if out: tell the barman (we were lucky there were only 2 behind the relatively quiet bar we were at). Then if I or someone else ordered a drink for me (I asked for a G&T with extra lime so they knew it was me) they did the it without the Gin
  • if someone gets you a drink, accept it, nurse it and ditch it when you can
  • the more drunk everyone gets the less they notice what you are drinking anyway

If you can recruit a wingwoman then do it, as that really helps although I did that at our work conference and was blamed by said wingwoman the next morning for her making a drunken tit of herself Confused

Don't say antibiotics, it basically means you're pregnant.

But most of all - congratulations and have fun!!

BFPhopeful2019 · 09/05/2019 00:51

I was on a hen weekend last weekend in a hen house. I had a lot of ‘gin’ and tonic and alcohol free beers. All in glasses and just pretended I was wasted and hungover the next day. We went to a spa and that was hard as obviously no jacuzzi, sauna, steam room or massage but I pulled it off just saying the heat made me ill and by having a facial. I only got my BFP the day before we left
so I was super nervous about everything. Think I managed it without any suspicion Xxc
