How much weight are you gaining during your pregnancy?

I’m 31 weeks and I’ve gained 2 stone. First baby at 35. Im quite amazed how much the rest of my body has changed - my thighs now rub together, back fat is quite something. For some reason I had this mad idea I’d be a really healthy active pregnant person as I was in pretty good shape before. The reality has been zero exercise, eating like crap and looking big all over. This weight gain feels quite considerable (now being 11 stone and only 5’2) - I’d love to hear your experiences.

I'm only 13 weeks so still a looong way to go but already feeling pretty thick around the midsection. I haven't actually gained any weight on the scales but I'm definitely fatter than I was before. Enough of a "bump" (mostly food!) that people are already commenting on it, and my trousers are already very uncomfortable.
Super happy to be pregnant, but not at all happy with how I look pregnant :(

ohdearymemumof3 · 07/05/2019 21:32

I gained 2 stone in each of my pregnancies 😣 i was a size 8 when i fell pregnant with my 1st and a size 14 after my 2nd baby.. i am now 7 weeks pregnant so praying i dont put another 2 stone on!!!😂

Eslteacher06 · 07/05/2019 21:32

I am 35 weeks and haven't weighed myself. There's no point as I've no idea how much is baby or me. I know it's probably 2st...msybe more but I'll cross that bridge when she's out.

What's done is done! It's not like you can diet now. I went on Slimming World after my first and the healthy food options came in handy when weaning. :)

EnjoyItAll · 07/05/2019 21:32

I’ve gained around a stone at 20 weeks. I have been eating healthier but not as much excercise as I should probably do

SRK16 · 07/05/2019 21:37

I’m 18 weeks and have gained about 7lbs.
I was a bit overweight to start and needed to lose weight so hoping I don’t gain too much, especially as I put on 5lbs in the weeks before pregnancy due to Christmas/binging after a miscarriage.

happymummy12345 · 07/05/2019 21:46

I put on 10kg throughout my pregnancy. I didn't eat for 2 (don't see the need at all), and didn't even bother with maternity clothes, I just got the next size up. I was back in my pre pregnancy jeans within a month of giving birth as well

sfb182 · 07/05/2019 21:51

I gained about a stone and a half in total but tried to stay as fit as possible. There are still loads of things you can do to stay active during pregnancy. Although it’s tiring, it makes you feel better overall. Staying fit makes for an easier labour and easier post pregnancy weight loss. Try to keep up with walking/swimming etc during pregnancy if you’re worried about weight gain and definitely don’t eat for two!

ememem84 · 07/05/2019 21:55

28 weeks. And I think I’ve put on 7/8 kilos.

In my last pregnancy I put on 9.5kg.

So the weight gain seems about right. Although I was heavier at the start of this one than with ds.

BillyAndTheSillies · 07/05/2019 22:10

17 weeks and gained 4lbs so far. But I was overweight to begin with so don't want to gain too much.
The comfort eating from TTC meant I gained 2st from deciding to try to falling pregnant - annoying as I'd lost 2st to start trying.
DC1 I gained 3 stone and I'm determined to not do that again.

Jennylou88 · 07/05/2019 22:21

I'm 21 weeks and have gained about a stone so far! Was healthy and active to start with and I'm still going to the gym about 3-4 times a week but not eating a strict diet anymore! I feel massive as only halfway and I'm only 5ft3 so a stone is very noticeable! X

Rememberallball · 07/05/2019 22:24

18+5 with twins and gained 7 1/2lb so far. Trying to keep weight gain to a minimum as think I’ll be too busy afterwards to worry about trying to lose it quickly. I do go to Slimming World and had lost 1 stone 6 1/2lb up to going for my ivf treatment so I’m ok with what I’ve gained so far.

justasking111 · 07/05/2019 22:26

Between sickness and nausea, then acid reflux, I was lighter after the birth than I had been before.

melissa1215 · 07/05/2019 22:36

18 weeks and 6lb gain so far, still in size ten jeans but the gain is very obvious and all belly

beforeIhit30 · 07/05/2019 22:44

Everyone’s different, and I’ve been similar to you. Pregnant with DC3 now and this will be my heaviest pregnancy, but in first pregnancy as well (my most active pregnancy) I still gained more than I expected to and gained all over.

A couple of weeks after birth is a good time to weigh to get an assessment of fat gained, once most lochia has passed and uterus is contracting. I gained about 1.5 stones in fat with DC1, nearly 2.5 stones with DC2, and I expect it will be more this time Confused

Each pregnancy has been significantly sickier and less active. This time it’s hyperemesis (sickness generally controlled now but nausea still bad and I need to eat little and often Sad) and extended rest since 5 weeks so nowhere near even basic activity levels like walking to places. I’m now 23 weeks, I’ve already gained around 20lb, a bit will be baby and blood but most of it will be fat, I’ve got 16 weeks until induction and still sick and resting so odds are I’m going to keep gaining! I can feel and see the chubbiness under my chin, around my thighs and hips, on my lower back, on my arms...

So, not much comfort but you’re not alone!

curlyrebel · 07/05/2019 22:59

I'm 38 weeks and have gained about 8kg. I didn't do as much exercise as I did with my first pregnancy but with both pregnancies I've found it really difficult to eat a lot in one sitting! Also seemed to lose my appetite.

It's only in the last couple of weeks that I've been getting hungrier in the early hours of the morning. I can't say I've been eating that healthily though!

They were worried about the baby's weight but a scan last week showed that it was growing just fine and was about 7Ib.

Hopefully you can lose any extra weight after the baby is born OP. I lost loads when I was BF with my first.

amehh · 08/05/2019 07:11

I'm 15 weeks today and have gained 5lbs so far which I'm not too worried about. My first pregnancy I was a higher weight to start AND gained around 3-4 stone (I never officially weighed in but it was a lot) so as long as I don't repeat that! I'd be happy with a 2 stone gain (preferably less though!) Trying to keep active when I'm not tired and picked up running again now I'm not so nauseous but I seem to be getting cold after cold which isnt helping anything!

windysowindy · 08/05/2019 07:13

3 stones
Still with me
Trying not to this time as I am pregnant again
So hard as I get nauseous on an empty stomach and cravings are real

b0bb1n · 08/05/2019 07:50

I gained about 2.5 stone I think it was. Most of it was water weight that disappeared very quickly after giving birth last month. I'm still a stone heavier than I was before pregnancy but have never been happier and more comfortable with my body. Your body is doing something amazing, enjoy it and don't stress about weight gain :)

hellotoyellow · 08/05/2019 08:54

Stopped weighing myself at 15 weeks, when I had gained 2kg (sickness +regular gym attendance) and latterly have broken my foot at 35 weeks so won't be doing much more exercise. I've never had thigh rub before either - normally very fit. I've just decided to listen to my body and live with the consequences!

Kathryn19 · 08/05/2019 09:08

I'm almost 25 weeks and have gained about 18lbs not too dissimilar to yourself. It is hard watching your body change, but it is hard to gain only what the baby needs. Also worth bearing in mind the recommended weight gain does suggest about 8lbs is stored for extra energy for labour and breastfeeding, so it isn't all baby bump and boobs! I'm trying to be kind to myself and remember that this is only temporary... and as another poster said it's only after giving birth and letting our bodies settle that we will really know exactly what extra weight is actually sitting on us!
I'm just staying as active as I can without doing anything that doesn't feel good and eating as best I can without denying myself when I feel bad enough from tiredness, achiness etc as it is!

Newbie1981 · 08/05/2019 09:20

I put on two and a half stone total. I hated it so much and have struggled to get it off even with breastfeeding! I'm now only 7lbs to go and she's 10 months old so def wasn't the quick fix I was expecting! Try not to worry and know it WILL go it may just take time and patience

Buddytheelf85 · 08/05/2019 09:34

Very similar to you OP - I’m a week behind you and I’ve gained nearly two stone. Like you I was in pretty good shape before but now I feel like a whale. I can really feel it on my thighs and bum in particular. Hope I can lose it afterwards!

DeadDoorpost · 08/05/2019 09:42

22 weeks and have lost over a stone, but gained some back due to baby. I can tell I've lost weight because I can see the difference in my face and neck and my weight right now is less than my booking in weight.

I put it all back on once I've given birth though. After DS I put 2 stone on. I'm not really looking forward to that...

DulcieRay · 08/05/2019 09:47

I put on about 3-4 stone but it's all bump boobs and bum basically. Lose 1-2 stone in Labour, another 1-2 stone in first couple of months of breastfeeding. So it all goes into baby

SamStephens · 08/05/2019 09:49

I’m nearly 19 weeks and about 6kgs up - I haven’t had big gaps between pregnancies though and I tend to be all belly anyway.
