I’m 31 weeks and I’ve gained 2 stone. First baby at 35. Im quite amazed how much the rest of my body has changed - my thighs now rub together, back fat is quite something. For some reason I had this mad idea I’d be a really healthy active pregnant person as I was in pretty good shape before. The reality has been zero exercise, eating like crap and looking big all over. This weight gain feels quite considerable (now being 11 stone and only 5’2) - I’d love to hear your experiences.

I'm 15 weeks and I've put on 4.4lbs

Megan2018 · 08/05/2019 09:50

I don't weigh myself (pg or not) so I don't know - but not much apart from the bump so far I think.

All of my pre pg clothes fit the same apart from the bump - I am still wearing all of my work dresses. Am wearing maternity jeans/leggings/trousers but can still get away with most normal tops. Boobs have gone up in the cup but not the back (yet).
I don't look any bigger in the face either, if anything a bit slimmer!
Long way to go yet though as am only 21+6.

I am not eating any more than usual though as actually not had any extra appetite. Not really any sickness or nausea either. I think giving up the large amount of wine I drank though has drastically cut my calorie intake which has balanced things out!

I'm 41, not very active and I am pleasantly surprised so far about how things are. But equally aware things can change very fast.

I’ve been so sick I’ve lost around 5kg. I had it too lose, as had put on weight after my miscarriage in October last year.
But I’ve have shown from very early. Had a proper bump since 10 weeks and now at 16+4 I look 6/7 months pregnant. I think we are different.

I'm 21 weeks and I've gained a stone and a half already! I'm now 11st 3lbs and 5ft 5.

I'm the same as you, I'm eating crap and barely moving but I don't mind all my extra padding!

Lovewinemorethanhusband · 08/05/2019 12:35

I'm 38 weeks now and put on 3lb, I've been told off for not putting enough on but my BMI was higher 30.4 when I got pregnant so didn't really need to put on weight

purplemama1990 · 08/05/2019 13:03

30 weeks and gained 2.5 stone, but I was underweight to start with. Most of it was gained during second trimester, and recently weight gain has slowed down. I haven't been eating for two either, just eating my normal amount plus an extra slice of toast in the mornings. I don't think the weight gain is always related to how much you're eating. I think because I was underweight, my pregnant body started storing fats from anything I eat, as well as a lot of it being water retention. I've also kept exercising and active all throughout pregnancy so far. Don't worry so much about weight gain, and just focus on you and baby both being healthy.

Bingbangbingbangbong · 08/05/2019 13:21

Im 18 weeks and am 8lbs lighter now than at the start of pregnancy.

I did/do have a high BMI to start with though and suffered badly with evening nausea and general food aversion that caused weight loss in the first trimester.

Still struggling to eat/feel hungry at this stage and the last two urine tests have come back with high Ketone measurements from not eating enough, so not gained it back yet.

I expect some gains will begin in the next few weeks

Rhiannon87 · 08/05/2019 13:28

Im nearly 13 weeks and have lost half a stone. Between losing my appetite and the most horrendous morning sickness. I can only really stomach fruit and veg at the moment too.

However, my belly button measurement has gone up and my clothes are getting uncomfy. Roll on being in proper maternity clothes.

DameSylvieKrin · 08/05/2019 13:32

I gained 9 kg (approx 18 lb) over a 36 w pregnancy on mostly on bedrest from w7 and was at my pre-pregnancy weight the first time I weighed myself after the birth, about 4 days. Baby was only 2.7 kg of that (5 lb).
Don’t assume that all is lost!

Triskaidekaphilia · 08/05/2019 13:55

29 weeks and I've gained 2 and a half stone, a lot of it in the past month or so. In the year before concieving I had finally got into a routine of eating healthy, mostly high protein and going to the gym 3x a week which the first trimester ruined- too sick and exhausted to exercise and could only stomach carbs and cheese. Then from 14-15 weeks up until now I have had PGP which is awful by the end of my work day so the gym is still difficult, I manage once a week or not at all. I admit it's still my fault that I have given into cravings but some of it is unavoidable. I'm wondering how much of the weight is in my boobs though as I've already gone up 3 back sizes and 2-3 cup sizes. I'm determined I will get the weight off/gain back my muscle after birth but won't be surprised if it takes well over a year. The main reason I worked hard to get healthy in the first place was to help me get pregnant so it's no surprise I haven't maintained the focus.

gossipgirl28 · 08/05/2019 15:37

I weighed myself yesterday and I've put on 2 stone. Currently 35 weeks and still exercise/keep fit. Will see what happens after the birth

Nuttyaboutnutella · 08/05/2019 15:40

I'm 38 weeks and I've gained 8kg so far. Gained a lot more with my first. A bit surprised as a few people guessed when I was 9 weeks pregnant!! But gained steadily and it's all in the bump so all is well

Tayel · 08/05/2019 22:47

Im 38 weeks and gained 2 stone 8lb so far... expecting to reach just under a 3 stone weight gain :(

Iwas a size 8-10 before weighing 8stone 12lb. This weight gain has really got to me! Baby is measuring slightly big but im just hoping ill be able to shed it after the birth. Im 5ft 4!

hannah9176 · 08/05/2019 22:51

I'm 19 weeks & gained 10lb so far. Not sure where it's gone to though cause I don't have a bump yet and still in size 10 jeans (although have to take them off by the end of the day as they're starting to get a little uncomfortable).

PBobs · 09/05/2019 06:45

I'm 35+3. I've gained around 1.5 stone.

HayleyHaystack · 09/05/2019 08:27

Thanks so much for all the responses. Must say it’s put my concerns to bed and it's been so useful to read all the different experiences. I’m enjoying pregnancy and feel very lucky but I can’t deny I don’t look good on it! Blush

How much does the placenta, amniotic fluid weigh I wonder, then if you add the baby to the weight gain.

Every mum and baby is different, but here are some averages: At birth, a baby weighs about 3.3kg (7.3lb). The placenta, which keeps your baby nourished, weighs 0.7kg (1.5lb). The amniotic fluid, which supports and cushions your baby, weighs 0.8kg (1.8lb).

HJWT · 09/05/2019 18:27

To much 😁

Snowwhite23 · 09/05/2019 18:46

Definitely needed to read this, 29 weeks tomorrow and feeling huge. Think I'm nearly as big as I was just before I had DD1.
Don't feel brave enough to weigh myself!

ladybranstonpickle · 10/05/2019 17:44

I'm 9 weeks and have gained less than 1kg so far. Really trying to stay on top of it as am prone to belly fat (the worst kind) and my mum gained loads of weight with me and my sister and never really lost it.

I'm 5'1, usually a side 10. Have just bought some size 12 trousers though.
