Ok so I can handle not drinking alcohol and caffeine and all the other restrictions but I’m really missing a soak.
I know it says it’s ok as long as the water isn’t too hot but I’m worried I’m not sure how hot is too hot and I just keep end up shivering in luke warm water

Huh? You are avoiding baths because you are pregnant?

It’s perfectly fine to have a bath of any temperature! People have water births in warm water so no need at all for it to be chilly. I had a bath when on the labour ward and the midwife told me to make it as hot as I liked!

Bojangles33 · 01/05/2019 19:17

Buy a bath thermometer! You'll use it when baby is here anyway.

kelly14 · 01/05/2019 19:17

Im 15+2 and have a hot bath every night ! Did last pregnancy too.
As long as the water is scalding or enough to make you pass out where your too hot it’s fine.

babyworriesconstantly · 01/05/2019 19:18

I'm 32 weeks and tbh I didn't stop having my (very long) baths! I just made sure the water wasn't too hot (as in I could get straight in rather than having to ease myself in) and if I felt faint etc I got out 😊

12pinkchairs · 01/05/2019 19:18

No because that would be crazy. Use a bath thermometer, you'll need one for the baby anyway.

mynameiscalypso · 01/05/2019 19:19

Nope, bath every day. I have it marginally less hot than I did (ie I don't come out pink!) but still definitely more-than-warm.

Fatted · 01/05/2019 19:19

I gave up on baths when pregnant. Nothing to do with the heat. It was because I was the size of a whale and couldn't get in and out of the bath without a hoist.

russiandwarf · 01/05/2019 19:20

I also thought a hot bath wasn't ok 😳 I can't believe I've been avoiding for no reason! I also had a luke warm bath a few weeks ago and it was rubbish so I gave up. So happy to hear hot is ok!

Cookit · 01/05/2019 19:21

Ok so as far as I know even a really, really hot bath is fine. A jacuzzi etc isn’t because it will raise your core temperature but a bath will start to cool down immediately so even if it starts off really hot, it won’t stay very hot for long.

I have a bath every day.

Comps83 · 01/05/2019 19:22

Yeah luke warm baths are shit
Great. I’ll stick some more hot water in. I’ll just keep checking to make sure my legs haven’t gone pink.

I had a hot bath every night of third trimester!

russiandwarf · 01/05/2019 19:27

Aha! Is that the difference @Cookit?! I didn't even think of it like that! I just assumed a hot bath and jacuzzi were the same 😳😂

SnakesBarmitzvah · 01/05/2019 19:28

Absolutely not! I was pregnant over winter and my hot baths were basically my only treat during the whole first 12 weeks of feeling like a bag of shite.

I got a thermometer but as soon as I realised how utterly miserable a 36 degree bath was I sacked it off. Nothing worse!!

I still had hot baths almost every night. Not warm - hot! Admittedly not as scalding (hmmm toasty!) as I liked them before.

Baby is growing absolutely fine and my midwife even suggested hot bath for when I’ve got lower back pain.

I’m going on holiday soon and re sunbatheing she warned me “when you feel hot, baby is REALLY hot” and even referred to it as a “boil in the bag” !!! So I would just bear this in mind. If you feel too hot, ie light headed, get out the bath.

Other than that, enjoy yours hot baths!

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 01/05/2019 19:31

I usually only avoid hot baths in the 2ww - it's only really hot tubs and saunas you should avoid as these stay at a constant temperature so raises your core body temperature; baths cool down over time so they are ok during pregnancy x

Triskaidekaphilia · 01/05/2019 19:36

I had them on occasion in first trimester but as I was scared about having them too hot combined with a shitty boiler, they kept ending up awful. Now I have a couple a week again, hot but not scalding as PP said. My pelvic pain can make it difficult to get out though, nearly needed DH's assistance last week Blush so a nice hot shower is sometimes more convenient.

Cosmogirl86 · 01/05/2019 19:49

I didn't in my first trimester, as I was afraid of birth defects. However I love baths but I can't have them anymore. I'm 23 weeks, carrying twins and as big as a house! I can't move in water properly and getting in and out is just too difficult. Not worth it for me anymore. I'm looking forward to it again after the birth

LadyOfTheFlowers · 01/05/2019 19:55

Run a bath and if it feels too hot it's too hot.
I do honestly feel for pregnant ladies now. It seems there are so many things you can't eat, can't do etc etc

Torsz · 01/05/2019 19:57

I've been avoiding them too and am now wondering if I didn't need to 😆

Comps83 · 01/05/2019 19:58

I saw an article on my pregnancy app about cosmetics etc. And harmful ingredients absorbed into your skin . I didn’t even read it. Surely anything ligit and not faked will have to come to certain standards and be safe

KateyKube · 01/05/2019 20:01

I stopped having baths because they can’t be hot, and lukewarm baths are crap and pointless. I didn’t dare take the risk of it being too hot, it’s only a few months of not having baths.

ELM8 · 01/05/2019 20:03

😱 I have been avoiding baths.. and I LOVE a bath..

Read somewhere it has to be below 37 degrees which was way cooler than I was used to so didn't bother after one disappointing bath made even worse by DH (The Bath Police) doing a temperature check before I got in (in a kind of sweet way - I think 🙄)

I'm now rethinking this, I didn't even think of the fact it cools down.. donut!

MyDcAreMarvel · 01/05/2019 20:03

Baths can be hot think there are myths doing the rounds.

Sugarhouse · 01/05/2019 20:04

I don’t even have a shower in my house got baths every night this pregnancy and the last as long as it’s not scolding hot don’t worry

Angelinthenightx · 01/05/2019 20:04

Im on baby no.6 and ive had baths with them all & been fine.i also like a hot bath i just dont have it as hot as when im not pregnant.

Cannyhandleit · 01/05/2019 20:06

I had a long hot bath every night during 3rd trimester with both my pregnancies. Strange thing is I am not a bath person and probably haven't had one since my youngest was born 2.5y ago, I just had a weird craving for radox original bubble bath which they don't make anymore so I don't know what I'll do if I get pregnant again!
