5+3 and bleeding

4th cycle of IVF and we were overjoyed to get our BFP. Today at 5+3 I had some sharper cramps than normal and now I'm bleeding - it's bright red, like a light period. I'm terrified - I can't stop tears from rolling down my face. DH is on his way and we're going to the Early Pregnancy Unit on the advice of the fertility clinic, but because I'm so early they won't scan me, will they? Probably just do bloods to check my hormones?

This can't be happening - I don't know if I can pick myself up and go through this all again.

Because you’re an ivf pregnancy they might scan you at 5+3 as dates are accurate and they should see gestational sac and maybe egg sac. They will probably check your blood for hCG levels

Hope that all goes well at the hospital xx

Mintypea5 · 30/04/2019 15:09

Because it's ivf I think they will probably Scan you! At 5 weeks they can see more than you expect even in some cases a heartbeat

Fingers crossed for you

PrayingandHoping · 30/04/2019 15:13

Big hug @RedPandaFluff .

I had brown spotting at 6 weeks and then bled for a week from 9-10 including 2 bright red bleeds. Scans showed no cause. Apparently it was cervical erosion.

Am now 12+5

I have everything crossed for you x

DaisyMay25 · 30/04/2019 15:14

I hope they scan you!

I have everything crossed for you @RedPandaFluff xx

Mamamiais · 30/04/2019 15:46

I was bleeding at 6 weeks and all was fine. I had a scan on NHS confirming the heartbeat. If you bleed go to A&E or call IVF clinic.

RedPandaFluff · 30/04/2019 16:01

Thank you for the reassurance and kind words. I'm in the waiting room now - I've had obs done (urine sample, blood pressure, temperature) but I'm guessing it will be a while before I see a nurse or doctor, it's quite busy.

I can't believe this is happening - I felt really positive about this pregnancy, I thought this was it for us. I'm desperately googling "bleeding at 5 weeks" looking for matching scenarios that worked out okay :-(

@RedPandaFluff I bleed around 4/5 weeks this pregnancy and had a healthy 6 week scan. Got my 12 week one next week

In my pregnancy last year I bleed 6/8/11 . Major bleed at 14 weeks and then pretty much all the time from 18 weeks ... he's 19 months old now. It can be fine lovely although bloody scary. Stay positive Thanks

RedPandaFluff · 30/04/2019 17:57

That's reassuring, @Mintypea5 and @Mamamiais - I've just been to the loo and the bleeding is lighter and more brown than the bright red it was earlier. I know it's impossible to say for sure but this feels like a good sign? Maybe it's stopping.

I'm praying that I've had a random early pregnancy bleed, coincidentally a couple of sharp cramps, and massively overreacted . . .

So sorry to hear this is happening to you OP. Stay strong 💕

Mamamiais · 30/04/2019 18:26

@RedPandaFluff Did they do the scan?

Baloonphobia · 30/04/2019 18:29

Not ivf but I had a bleed at 6, 8 and 13 wks. Currently 37 weeks.

Kannet · 30/04/2019 18:33

I had ivf and in both my pregnancies I had heavy bleeding around the 5/6 week mark. It's not always bad news

1Wanda1 · 30/04/2019 18:44

Hope you're OK RedPandaFluff. I recognise your name from other IVF threads.

Just wanted to say: obviously it is early days and anything could happen. But last year I had bleeding at 5+6 after our successful IVF cycle. Completely freaked out - clinic advised no point scanning before 6 weeks. My bleeding was red initially, then pink and then brown, and stopped in 24 hours. We had a scan at 6+3 and saw a heartbeat. I am sitting feeding DD, 13 weeks old, now.

So, early bleeding is not always bad news. I hope everything is OK with you.

Teddybear45 · 30/04/2019 18:52

Bleeding does tend to be more common amongst IVF pregnancies as the meds we get given cause cramping and spotting. fingers crossed everything okay.

RedPandaFluff · 30/04/2019 19:00

Thanks everyone - I really appreciate the reassurances, it's helping.

I've just been examined and my cervix is closed. They're going to phone me later on with the blood results - depending on the levels, they'll either scan me tomorrow or do more bloods in a couple of days to see if levels are decreasing.

It's heartstopping and terrifying. I feel slightly more optimistic than I did this afternoon because I think the bleeding is stopping but I'm like jelly now from all the stress and anxiety. DH is going away tomorrow for work for a couple of days, which doesn't help 😖

@RedPandaFluff, please try to relax as much as possible. It is hard but be reassured that there are positive stories.

goodforbrian · 30/04/2019 19:37

Op I had a 5 week bleed in my previous pregnancy. Bright red, sharp cramps and then later brown. Like you I was petrified. I had an internal scan to make sure the sac was still there. It was and now I have a crawling baby at my feet as I type! I never did get a reason for the bleed, these things just happen sometimes. I just wanted to share my positive outcome. Wishing you all the best, and good luck! Smile

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 30/04/2019 19:53

Unfortunately bleeding at this stage has always been bad news for me - I've just miscarried today at 5+6 (my 4th) - I had sharp one sided pains at 5+1 and then brown bleeding which came and went for a couple of days. Been monitoring hcg levels at home using clearblue digital and it went from 2-3weeks on Friday to 1-2 on Saturday so I knew I would lose this one
Fingers crossed you get better news x

RedPandaFluff · 30/04/2019 22:04

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted I'm so sorry to read that you're miscarrying. It's awful and it's horrendous that you've been through it four times.

The hospital still hasn't phoned with results and I reckon it's unlikely they'd do so at this point. I'll phone them tomorrow morning. I question whether I even gave them a correct phone number as I was trying not to cry at the time.

Nothing for it but to go to bed and try to sleep. I'm absolutely wrung out but clinging to the hope the positive experiences shared on here have given me - thank you 💐

I'm sorry to hear this @RedPandaFluff, I hope you've managed to get some rest. Sending best wishes for you today 🤞💜

ValleyoftheHorses · 01/05/2019 06:38

I bled throughout my IVF pregnancy. Started at 6 weeks and on and off from then. Later it was because I had placenta praevia but earlier I think I’m just a bleedy person.
DS is now nearly 7.
Good luck Flowers

12pinkchairs · 01/05/2019 07:18

With my daughter I had unexplained bleeding 3 times in my pregnancy and everything turned out fine in the end. Wishing you all the luck in the world xx

RedPandaFluff · 01/05/2019 08:01

Good morning everyone - the clinic just phoned, my hcg levels are high enough for them to want to scan me - 6780 - so I have to go in later on. I'm relieved that my levels are high enough, and the bleeding has stopped, but still pretty stressed out.

I'm gutted that DH is away :-(

OP posts:
VenusStarr · 01/05/2019 08:39

That's good news. Is there anyone able to go with you for the scan? Fingers crossed you get more positive news today x

goodforbrian · 01/05/2019 09:03

All the best today @RedPandaFluff Thinking of you x
