Just wondering cos I need our parents to get to us to look after DS and its at least 2 hours drive. 1st labour was about 12 hours.

Hi, my first labour was two hours and twenty minutes, my second an hour and a half and my third three and a half hours, (sorry i know people will hate me for that one) so should be quicker but don't think there are any set rules

funnypeevesculiar · 13/07/2007 22:10

aparently, rule of thumb is 2nd labour 2/3 as long as first. or is it 1/3?

Mine:
1st - from when waters broke - 21 hours, from start of contractions c 7 hours
2nd - from first contraction to baby - c 3 hours

My mum lives 1.5 hours away - we had a local friend on call who looked after ds til mum arrived. I also had home birth booked in just in case ... but wasn't possible in the event ...

Good luck!

BabyMadandBIGbump · 13/07/2007 22:13

DS#1 4 hour labour, 4 days early, 8lb 4oz!
DS#2 3 hour labour, almost 2 days early, 8 lb 14oz!

Miaou · 13/07/2007 22:13

1st - 16 hours
2nd - 8 hours
3rd - 4 hours
4th - due any day and I'm taking bets

GreedyGecko · 13/07/2007 22:15

both from 1st contraction:

ds1 - 8hrs
ds2 - 1hr 45mins

mummypig · 13/07/2007 22:18

My second was a bit longer as I was waiting for dp's sister to come and collect ds1. Seriously, the contractions really intensified the moment she went out of the door. Before she left I even was able to pack his bag in between contractions. I think the 'active labour' bit for both of them was about the same.

sahmtotwo · 13/07/2007 22:21

1st was 3 1/2 hours from first contraction to baby

2nd was 2 1/2 hours from first contraction to baby

3rd was 1 3/4 hours from waters breaking to baby.

Pebblemum · 13/07/2007 22:58

1st - 21hrs from waters breaking to giving birth (19hrs from 1st contraction)

2nd - 5.5 hrs from 1st contraction

3rd - 7.5hrs from waters breaking (3hrs from 1st contraction)

peachypie · 13/07/2007 23:00

1st DS - 17 hours, from water broke to birth
2nd DD - 1 hour 40 mins, from first contraction to birth.

Hattie05 · 13/07/2007 23:01

1st - 6hrs

2nd - 1hr 45

Both timed from me being woken by contractions.

Miaou · 13/07/2007 23:02

sahmtotwo - you have three children - does your name need a little updating??

Beauregard · 13/07/2007 23:02

1st-from first painful contraction 4 hrs 30 mins
2nd-55 mins

SlightlyMadSpider · 13/07/2007 23:06

Mine were about the same.

DTDs just before lunch - 10pm.
DD3 just before lunch - 9pm

BUT prem labours (as with DTDs can apparently be particularly fast)
AND DD3 was held high by her short cord. She didn't descend as fast as she should during labour which would have slowed cervical dilation.

On thta basis my first labour was probably quicker than it should have been. My second was probably slower than it should have been.

sahmtotwo · 13/07/2007 23:07

LOL Yes it does Miaou, number 3 is only 10 days old so I still have my baby head on.

Can anyone tell me how I change it? Will probably go for a non-mumsy name this time.

MoosMa · 13/07/2007 23:11

1st - 26 hours from being induced.
2nd - 8 hours from 1st contraction, 3 hours from 1st painful contraction.

Beauregard · 13/07/2007 23:12

Go into 'My mumsnet'
then registration details
then just change name and save changes.
Maybe you need a new name thread?
Congrats on baby no 3.

sahmtotwo · 13/07/2007 23:20

Cheers Pelvicfloornomore (love that name btw)
Will go do that and not hijack this thread any more

Bubbaloo · 14/07/2007 10:16

1st-2 days
2nd-50 minutes.

MrsJohnCusack · 14/07/2007 10:31

ha
every fecker I know had a much quicker second birth except me

1st - (induction) - from first contraction to birth about 10 hours
2nd - from first proper painful contraction to birth about 12 hours, but was having contractions for about 12 hours before that

whereas all my friends' recent second babies practically fell out in the car/living room/loo/hospital caff etc.

I have decided to take this as a sign that my pelvic floor is in impeccable condition

Miaou · 14/07/2007 17:49

LOL MrsJC!

sahmtotwo - - sorry didn't realise your baby was so young! I wouldn't have jumped on you quite so quick if I had realised (bet my member profile doesn't get updated that quick either!)

Marne · 14/07/2007 17:52

Dd1 - 7 hours
dd2- 10 hours

kbaby · 15/07/2007 10:10

Mine was longer.

1st - 7hrs from 1st contraction to being born

2nd - 8hrs from very first contraction to being born.

1st baby I got to the hosp and was 9cm dilated and DD was born 40 mins later

2nd I got to the hosp at 7 cm later and 3 hrs after DS was born.

MadAsABagOfFrogs · 15/07/2007 13:52

Not a problem Miaou, don't worry about it. Hope you like the new name

Miaou · 15/07/2007 22:12

oh, I do

IdrisTheDragon · 15/07/2007 22:15

First labour was 20 hours from waters breaking to DS being born (or 9 hours from first proper contractions).

With DD it was 6.5 hours from start to finish (and that was from contractions starting).
