Does this sound like early labour?

Hi all.

I'm currently 40+4 with my first child. Up until today I'd had no signs whatsoever that baby was coming any time soon. No BH, no show, nothing. Well, I was woken up this morning by a pain that felt quite similar to the pain you get with gas/constipation. Initially that's what I thought it was.

After getting a couple of these pains, they went away. However, about three hours ago I started getting them again. It's hard to explain, but the best way I can describe it is a sharp ache (if that makes sense Grin) that starts in my back and will then go round to the front, just under my belly button. It does feel kinda similar to constipation/gas pains which is making me wonder if it is labour or wether I just need the loo!

They're not particularly painful at the moment, nor are they very regular. Right now they're coming every 8-12 minutes (though sometimes it's been as long as 25 minutes between pains) and lasting between 25-40 seconds.

Being overdue and fed up, I really don't want to get my hopes up thinking this is labour starting. Did anyone else experience similar whilst in early labour?

Thanks Grin

I had that in early labour, I kept thinking I needed a poo. But I was in early labour for a whole week! Good luck, I hope it's not too much longer for you

ApplestheHare · 13/03/2019 19:45

Sounds like the start of things but obviously no guarantees as to how long it might take. Fingers crossed it's quick and goes well Flowers

Albamahanna · 13/03/2019 19:46

Sounds like early labour to me. I was in early labour for a day with DC1and 5 days with DC2 though. Get lots of rest while you can. Good luck x

CobaltRose96 · 13/03/2019 19:48

Ooh, quick update! I did indeed need the loo 🙈 However... when I wiped I noticed bloody mucus and I'm still getting pains. Eeek.

Eeek keep us posted!

That's how mine started with DS! Sounds like it could be the start. Try to get as much rest and sleep as possible / if possible. Exciting!

Gobletoffire · 13/03/2019 21:42

Sounds like the start of labour, OP! Keep us posted x

tobeornottobe1 · 13/03/2019 22:24

That is exactly how mine started with DS too. The pains gradually got more intense and came closer together, good luck! X

CobaltRose96 · 13/03/2019 22:30

Thanks all! Pains are definitely intensifying (though still not terribly painful) and about 7-8 minutes apart. 🙈

Oooo baby time!

alwaysncxx · 13/03/2019 22:39

Good luck @CobaltRose96!!! Thanks

CobaltRose96 · 13/03/2019 22:59

Thanks all! Right now they feel like pretty bad diarrhoea cramps. About seven minutes apart and lasting 45-50 seconds. If I weren't pregnant I'd think I was having the worst gas attack ever 🙈

How's it going CobaltRose96?

Sounds like it's progressing!

CobaltRose96 · 14/03/2019 05:45

Contractions are now lasting a minute and are quite painful, but still coming every 7-8 minutes. I rang the hospital and they said that ideally contractions should be closer together before coming in. Been up for almost 24 hours already Sad

Your doing really well op! It can be so tiring but worth it in the end

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 14/03/2019 12:30

You are doing amazing Cobalt, hope everything is going well!

TableforJane · 14/03/2019 12:33

Ooh how exciting! How is it going?

Teakind · 14/03/2019 13:36

Good luck Cobalt! Thinking of you and hoping all is going well.

A long early labour is really exhausting so I hope it’s sped up for you.

ApplestheHare · 14/03/2019 21:24

Hope it's sped up and you're hanging in there Cobalt!

CobaltRose96 · 14/03/2019 21:29

Well that was a whirlwind! Trust your instincts ladies! After begging to be allowed into hospital even though they kept telling me my contractions weren't close enough, I got there only to be told I was 9cm dilated! 😬 Baby was born 45 minutes later without any painkillers! She's perfect and we're both doing well ❤ 6lbs 6oz of perfection
