Reduced movements. Been for scan no feral movements felt or seen

Hi I'm 36w1 been out or hospital since Sunday after having sepsis! Reduced movements started on Tuesday but been in for monitoring and heart rate etc fine. Been for scan again could see heart beating but no movement seen or felt by sonographer. Babies heart beat keeps spiking and midwife saying that's her moving but I'm not feeling the movements. I feel like they are just fobbing me off. I feel like there is something wrong and no one is listening to me

Advice would be great please 😌

Please get a second opinion. Are you feeling any movement at all? That’s good your mum can come with you. It’s helpful to have someone advocate for you when you are worried and vulnerable.

snoopy18 · 08/02/2019 22:12

Any movement yet? Go back in tonight if you still haven’t felt any movement. I went in twice one day a few weeks ago as baby is usually so active and it dropped right down. Went in last weekend too. Keep going back until your satisfied with what’s going on as it’s just not worth the risk as other people have said. Even more so given your family member has had a still born.

MissMoodyMoo · 08/02/2019 23:36

I've felt her move but it's just not like her she's normally very active. I think I'll go back in tomorrow instead of waiting until Sunday.

I had similar, no movement but her heart rate was good both on the monitor and when scanned. The consultant decided not to take a chance and I went in for an emcs that day at 35 weeks (I was booked for one at 38weeks)

She needed to be rescussitated and ventilated at birth and we spent 3 weeks in NICU/SCBU with a very nasty infection. If I had gone home that night I wouldn't have a cheeky 4yo now.

Im not trying to scare you but the thing the consultant took most seriously was the fact that I said something didn't feel right.

If you're still not feeling movement as you'd expect go back. Even if you were there this morning or this afternoon or whatever. If you don't feel her move when she usually does please go and get checked

snoopy18 · 09/02/2019 03:02

Yeah go back as soon as poss if it doesn’t feel right. Let us know how you get on.
Hope all is ok 🙏🏾

sycamore54321 · 09/02/2019 08:48

Please go back early today. The risks of delivery at 36weeks are certainly an issue but for me, if I had your family history of stillbirth and multiple episodes of reduced movement, I would insist on taking the risk of an early delivery over the alternative.

Ask them to talk through with you and to document all your concerns. Ask about the risks to your baby of being born at 36 weeks. Think if those are acceptable to you. And ask about the risks of waiting, even with monitoring.

I’m really surprised they aren’t taking this more seriously.

Best wishes.

Seline · 09/02/2019 08:50

Please kick off! This happened to me much earlier along with other things and she was in distress!

Seline · 09/02/2019 08:52

At 36 weeks with reduced movements I'd rather out than in. You'll potentially have a short SCBU stay.

I delivered at 26 weeks OP, so I know how scary pre term delivery is. Mine were twins and if they'd waited one twin wouldn't have made it. Please be careful!

GoodStuffAnnie · 09/02/2019 08:57

Op you sound really scared - understandably. Well done for taking your mum. Or take a pushy friend.

Things you can do...

Ask for second opinion.
I would get the consultant to write down on my notes. “I am happy baby is totally fine and there is no risk.” And get them to sign.

What do you want? If you have decided I want a c section (I would) I would be saying it over and over. I want a c section today. I want a c section today. Surely better baby out?

Soontobe60 · 09/02/2019 09:05

I'm assuming all these people telling you their opinions are medical experts?
Op, you've had different professionals telling you the baby is fine. If they had any suspicion that things were not, they'd get baby out immediately. Your baby is getting bigger, your placenta is at the front, baby has little or no room to move now, its head may well be engaged now that's why you can barely feel it. The exact same happened to my DD, and she returned twice to the hospital. Both times they were happy to monitor her for reassurance. By all means pop back today if you need to, and after what your sister went through, that would be very understandable, but please please don't get yourself worked up.
I hope all goes well for you. X

TomHardysBackpack · 09/02/2019 09:16

I had my ds at 36 weeks and he was 100% ok development wise.

If baby has to be born now then try not to worry about that aspect too much.

I definitely think trust your gut and take your mum with you, explain about your family's situation as well.

I had reduced movements with my eldest and they just told me to eat a mars bar or have a bath HmmConfused. Turns out he had the cord round his neck 3 times.

Was the sepsis related to anything in the pregnancy? Hope you are feeling better (apart from this) now x

Seline · 09/02/2019 09:25

Soon medical professionals told me I was fine. Three hours later I was being rushed to theatre as I was bleeding to death and one of my twins placentas had detached and she was born blue with apgars of 1, and nearly didn't make it.

So no, I don't trust a blase oh it's fine with something like this.

MyDcAreMarvel · 09/02/2019 10:53

That’s terrible advice please do not listen to that it’s completely false!

PoshPenny · 09/02/2019 10:56

Are the doctors aware of the family history of stillbirth? I'd be trusting my gut instincts and wanting her delivered sooner rather than later.

Merrydoula · 09/02/2019 11:03

Can you walk into another hospital? Pretend you've been at a friends in that area and you were worried, maybe to get another opinion?

DaisyChainsForever · 09/02/2019 11:12

Are you going back in today OP? Good idea taking ur mum with you for support and an extra voice. Thanks

MissMoodyMoo · 09/02/2019 11:21

Going back in today!!I was up until 2am crying eating ice, drinking cold water etc to try and get her to move. Felt a few wee pokes but still nothing like she normally has been she's normally sooo active! But since I got out of hospital with sepsis she's hardly moved!! They don't know where or what caused the sepsis just that I was really poorly! I had phoned the maternity assessment at 3am and they told me it was just viral and to drink lots of water by 11am my body was in a state of starvation and my sister drove me to a&e since maternity wouldn't see me incase it was a bug and i collapsed in the waiting area and was taken into resus! I ended up with acidosis and sepsis and was on triple antibiotics therapy etc! My body being in such a state also made me have contractions but my cervix didn't open so they wouldn't consider delivering her. In still poorly and on oral antibiotics and now this!! I'm so stressed out! I feel like I'm going mental!

Crikey, my health was taken much more seriously by my hospital when I was pregnant. Is there a different hospital you can go to? Yours sounds abysmal.

Seline · 09/02/2019 12:30

OP tell them you're getting regular tightening feelings and pressure. Tell them you feel hot then cold and dizzy. They'll see you then.

snoopy18 · 09/02/2019 16:52

The hospital sounds like a hot mess :-/ where are you based ? How are you doing?

minisoksmakehardwork · 09/02/2019 16:57

Do maternity know you have been ill with sepsis? As stupid as it sounds sometimes you actually need to tell them, remind them, of these things. I had to tell maternity every time I rang up that I was pregnant with twins and I was still given the wrong advice. Luckily it didn't have too much of an impact expect a sudden panic when they realised I was in labour and I wasn't in the right place. But when you've been so desperately ill I would be the same as you and worrying about the effects the illness and treatment would have had on baby.

emmagrace96 · 09/02/2019 17:03

With my first I had feral movments and they just checked me over and sent me home. I went back another 3 times before they gave a scan and after that another 2 because she still wasn't moving regularly. They eventually induced me, and I'm glad they did because I was so worried. Kick up a fuss. If you aren't happy and are concerned they should be listening x

emmagrace96 · 09/02/2019 17:03

*reduced fetal movements x

WellBHouse · 09/02/2019 17:15

You’re doing the right thing going back in. Who cares if you piss them off, you never have to see them again. You’ve got this

EastEndQueen · 09/02/2019 20:18

I am a midwife and there is nothing at all more important as a sign of baby’s health then regular movements that feel part of the standard pattern to the mother. No test or scan provides any reassurance the same.

I would go back EVERY DAY that there is reduced fetal movement and they should deliver you at 37/40 on the dot if baby isn’t moving properly and that what you want.

www.tommys.org/pregnancy/symptom-checker/baby-fetal-movements

www.rcog.org.uk/globalassets/documents/guidelines/gtg_57.pdf

Both make it very clear you should present to the maternity services immediately on reduced fetal movement regardless of whatever reassurance you have had in the past
