How many pregnancies are too much for your body?

I would like to ask any doctors out there, do you think a womans body will only tolerate a certain number of babies succesfully? For example those women who have, say, 10 children, do their bodies suffer a bit more each time or are we designed to regenerate completely after each pregnancy with no lasting damage? Obviously no two women are the same, but I am asking this as a general question.

Hope this makes sense! I amm finding it difficult to put this into words. It is something I have always wondered.

Pixiefish, I blame the internet, we're all too busy chatting to be shagging

Rose Quartz, I never replied to your question about the Duggars as I had gone to my bed by the time you asked. As a 'quick' response I shall just say that I find the concept of people who bring children into the world without any intent to actively care for them scare me. They can have as many babies as they like, but the parents should take on the lions share of the parenting. Children should be allowed to be children and not forced to be surrogate parents. Sure, all older kids help out, but it usually means the odd babysitting venture if they're of an age to do so, the grabbing of nappies or application of puréed gubbins to a wailing mouth. The fact that the Duggar kids 'raise' each other is not on.

Their religious fanaticism is a whole different issue, but unrelated to their child-rearing (lack of) capabilities. So I shall bite my typing fingers and leave a wee space on this thread for somebody else to have a word or twelve
