How many pregnancies are too much for your body?

I would like to ask any doctors out there, do you think a womans body will only tolerate a certain number of babies succesfully? For example those women who have, say, 10 children, do their bodies suffer a bit more each time or are we designed to regenerate completely after each pregnancy with no lasting damage? Obviously no two women are the same, but I am asking this as a general question.

Hope this makes sense! I amm finding it difficult to put this into words. It is something I have always wondered.

I honestly find right wing american christians mildly scary, even if I didn't grow up there (right wing italian catholic anyone?)

mumto3girls · 04/07/2007 11:17

I thought the duggars said all kids began with j because they originally named the firs 2 or 3 and then decided that as each child that came after might be their last they didn't want it to be the odd one out...17 kids later.....

You have reason to be afraid, franca, as the present Bush administration quite clearly shows how these types of 'values' translate into policy.

expatinscotland · 04/07/2007 11:18

How about 'Jorja'? Have they used that for a name yet? Cod found that one as a name used in Australia.

francagoestohollywood · 04/07/2007 11:18

mumto3, did we watch the same documentary on discovery health ?

francagoestohollywood · 04/07/2007 11:19

jung?

sweetkitty · 04/07/2007 11:19

Live and let live thats what I say about the Duggars (have watched some programmes on them) I do agree with expat though I find all the girls with the same haircut as Mummy and matching dresses a bit weird, same with the Jim-Bob mini me's. One of the things I want to instill in my children is freedom to think for themselves and be individuals. I think the Duggars may have lost a bit of that I remember a few of the older girls saying they wanted to get married and have loads of kids like their Mum which is fine but surely some of them would want to do something different.

RQ, i don't think they are freaks. its not something that i would personally do. But then again there are other aspects of parenting i would never do (GF for one ).

Don't get me wrong i would love more children but that is just too many for me as i want my children to be just that:children.

Idobelieveinfairies · 04/07/2007 11:23

I have had 6 pregnancies...and 8 children as i have 2 sets of twins.

My only long term effect is my back. But never been to doctor about it. I can't stand still with out it seasing up and aching badly. With mine all so long it is very rarely ineed to stand still, but will have to get it sorted soon. I guess it is a tendon/ligament type problem pelvic floors seem ok, but a flabby tummy after such huge twins!

My body never gave up as it were during pregnancy as i got to 40 weeks with my last two, so wasn't any danger of having a premature birth either.

francagoestohollywood · 04/07/2007 11:25

I think we should all go see a physiotherapist

Idobelieveinfairies · 04/07/2007 11:25

I meant young not long!..perhaps the brain has been too much too many times too!

expatinscotland · 04/07/2007 11:26

I need one for my thumb, franca.

I got horrible carpal tunnel with my second and my hands have never been the same again.

mumto3girls · 04/07/2007 11:26

Yes franca i watched that documentary

I have just seent his recipe on their sie and the word 'chicken optional' made me LOL.
Gross!! This is not a wholesome meal!!
CHICKEN & NOODLES
8 cans cream of chicken soup
10 T. Mex. chicken boullion
17 c. water
1 onion chopped (or 1 T. onion powder)
4-5 bags egg noodles
chunks cooked chicken (optional)
pepper to taste
Boil Soup, Boullion, Water, & Onion. Boil 5 min.
Add Noodles & chicken. Pepper either in pot or at table. Yummy!

expatinscotland · 04/07/2007 11:28

Salty, not yummy.

francagoestohollywood · 04/07/2007 11:28

go! I found a guy who gave fantastic massages at our local school of complementary health, but it was 40 pounds for half an hour, I did a few when my back was completely blocked, but had to give up as it was too expensive and I felt guilty (typical)

Idobelieveinfairies · 04/07/2007 11:32

Blimey! thats expensive, i will have to get it sorted. When it happens i can imagine a deep massage would totally do the trick. I just imagine them saying..loose some weight and it'll be ok....and i'll be like I KNOW!!!! (easier said than done)

I just have to satrt waling slowly around again and it gets better. Getting out of bed is uncomfy too, but fine when up and walking, so i know its nothing i have pulled.

Another job to put on the to-do list!

sweetkitty · 04/07/2007 11:34

I remember seeing their huge pantry on TV and it was just full of tins.

How can you afford to feed all those children? My fruit and veg bill for a week is about £20 and thats for 2 nevermind everything else, can you imagine how many toilet rolls they go through.

I know the Duggars are anti debt and built their home themselves but still how can they afford it?

sweetkitty · 04/07/2007 11:35

Deep tissue massages should be free on the NHS for pregnant women (SK can only dream)

LaBoheme · 04/07/2007 11:40

their children must be malnourished growing up on that swill

jangly · 04/07/2007 11:44

My granny had 11. She died of old age at 96. Her husband died when the youngest was about a year. I'm not going to put a grin after this as it wouldn't be right, but it wasn't my gran all those kids killed.

expatinscotland · 04/07/2007 11:45

Queen Victoria poppped out bairn after bairn and lived for ages.

juuule · 04/07/2007 11:49

17pregnancies, 9 babies, no major problems so far.

juuule · 04/07/2007 11:52

Got to agree with Jangly. I don't think it's always the pregnancies/births that take their toll. It's more the stress of dealing with lots of children that can have an effect on health.
