How many pregnancies are too much for your body?

I would like to ask any doctors out there, do you think a womans body will only tolerate a certain number of babies succesfully? For example those women who have, say, 10 children, do their bodies suffer a bit more each time or are we designed to regenerate completely after each pregnancy with no lasting damage? Obviously no two women are the same, but I am asking this as a general question.

Hope this makes sense! I amm finding it difficult to put this into words. It is something I have always wondered.

This jim bob "served in the Arkansas House of Representatives from 1999 to 2003 and was a candidate for the U.S. Senate in 2002" though

expatinscotland · 04/07/2007 10:58

No, speedy, they're not Mormons. They're freaks, though.

I mean, just look at the hair!

And really, who needs to have so many kids?

Think of the impact on the enviroment!

expatinscotland · 04/07/2007 11:00

Says a lot about that state, franca, doesn't it?!

francagoestohollywood · 04/07/2007 11:00

Jim bob actually scares the hell out of me.

RoseQuartz · 04/07/2007 11:00

mumofmonsters,
thanks for your post, I do normally use paragraphs, believe it or not!
Its just that some things get me going so much, I can't be bothered so just throw it all out,iyswim........., the fact that i'm a writer for a living means that I have to produce only the best, otherwise I'd soon find myself on the scrap heap!!!!
Maybe I'm not far off anyway!! .
As for the Duggar family, you have every right to express your own opinions, of course, its just a bit annoying for everyone to criticise them when other families are utterly disgusting for one reason or another, and nobody says a word!!
Hey, you must be psychic..........how did you know what I'd written if you hadn't read it, tut tut tut lol
Seriously though, thankyou for using your manners and NOT swearing, its just offensive to those of us who know better!

G'night Jill
G'night Jeremiah
G'night James
G'night Jackson
G'night Jim Bob

Boom boom ... that has really tickled me

Gordon Ramsay would love to know you think he is 'ill-raised' and a bad parent, as all people who use the 'f' word are, RQ.

But at least he knows how to use paragraphs and proper punctuation.

In addition to being a great chef and incredibly sexy.

My family is great, RQ, thanks for asking! They didn't have so many children, because they wanted us to engage in poncey activities like ballet and piano lessons, and they had some expensive school fees to pay, too.

They think the Duggars are FREAKS, too.

expatinscotland · 04/07/2007 11:04

Obviously RQ missed hunker's famous 'cunting Sainsbury's thread!

francagoestohollywood · 04/07/2007 11:05

Expat, is this going to spell the end of our romance? do you really find gr sexy???

morningpaper · 04/07/2007 11:06

I have had two pregnancies and I suspect that because my weight changed so drastically (from just over 8 stone to over 12 stone both times) it has really taken it's toll - my back is really bad, I spend a lot of the time on painkillers. Apparently I am "hyper flexible" and have a lot of movement in my joints and the effects of Relaxin mean that I have buggered up a lot of my joints in my pelvis/spine/hips.

I honestly think that if I had another pregnancy I might end up incapacitated - it worries me greatly. I already spend a lot of time in great pain.

My grandmother had 10 pregnancies - she is now 80 but has not left the house for 20 years, due to extreme joint pain and disabilities that undoubtedly come from so much wear and tear on her body.

expatinscotland · 04/07/2007 11:06

Well, not as sexy as Bree aka MrsGordonRamsay aka LGJ, but he's got something about him.

BUT, tbh, I find Hugh Fearlessly-Eatsitall more appealing.

After watching his last 'River Cottage' series and seeing how passionate he is about his animals, I can forgive his love of offal as a breakfast treat.

suzywong · 04/07/2007 11:07

never mind the hair, check out this family recipe

HASHBROWN CASSEROLE
1 (32 oz.) pkg. frozen hash browns (2 lbs.)
2 cans cream of chicken soup
1/2 c. milk
2 t. onion powder
1/2 t. pepper
2 c. grated cheddar cheese
1/4 c. melted butter
3 c. cornflakes, crush cornflakes in Ziploc? bag, pour
melted butter in & shake.
Spray casserole dish with oil. Layer 1/2 hash brown first. Then pour 1/2 of soup mixture = cream of chicken, milk, onion powder, salt, & pepper. Then half of the grated cheese. Repeat? Hash browns, soup mixture, grated cheese. Top with crushed, buttered corn flakes. Bake at 350 for 45 min. (Jana?s favorite meal!)

I am phoning the Food Police branch of Interpol as I type

morningpaper · 04/07/2007 11:07

(I suspect that height might have a lot to do with it - the women in my family are mostly under 5 foot!)

expatinscotland · 04/07/2007 11:08

That's supposed to be a meal, suzy?

Where are you finding all this?

morningpaper · 04/07/2007 11:08

Suzy I think that is standard American fayre. In fact that is probably Cooking From Scratch American stylee...

RoseQuartz · 04/07/2007 11:08

LaBoheme, it must be due to my lack of brain cells that I keep putting myself through the trauma of giving birth repeatedly............you are cleverer than me, but hey, that's so easy, so doubt if you'd get any prizes somehow!!!
As for the duggar kids all having 'j' as first letter of their names, have a guess as to why that may be? How about Jesus, is that it???
The mother is the odd one out really isn't she, as she's Michelle, even the dad's name begins with 'J'...........he's called Jim Bob. Have spoken to them both and they are not 'freaks' like some people reckon?

sweetkitty · 04/07/2007 11:08

The labour and birth whilst utter hell is only a few hours (or a few days) I'm pregnant with no3 which will be my last. I have bad SPD in pregnancy which is a pain literally. But the main reason is financial and also having the time for good 1 on 1 time with each child. Also I would like them to have their own bedrooms when older and alas I don't have a mansion. In addition I have no help from family and friends so it's me and DP.

suzywong · 04/07/2007 11:09

they have a link to their recipes on the web site

I mean fairplay to them for feeding their brood but that recipe advocates combining canned chicken soup, frozen hash browns and cornflakes ON THE SAME DAY!!!!

expatinscotland · 04/07/2007 11:09

Erm, no, MP! I beg to differ!

But, being Mexican-American, I was brought up on TexMex.

Where're are the tortillas? Where are the chiles?

ghosty · 04/07/2007 11:09

Did you get through Suzy?

francagoestohollywood · 04/07/2007 11:11

it's in the website expat (lol at hugh etc btw !!!)
Morningpaper, I'm the same, terrible backache since my second was born. If I sit down for more than 30 mins it gets excruciating

morningpaper · 04/07/2007 11:11

The duggars are not freaks, they have pretty much the same attitude to religion and birth control that a lot of people would have had 70 years ago...

But I do find their gung-ho attitude to the environment a little repellent...

expatinscotland · 04/07/2007 11:13

Yes, MP, that's why it's my opinion that they are FREAKS. Because this is 2007, not 1937.

Just my 2p, but having had to grow up with this sort of attitude shoved in your face for 30 years was a dominant factor in the formation of my opinion.

RoseQuartz · 04/07/2007 11:14

expatinscotland, You make me laugh!!!!!

Has to be said though, you are one hell of a character!!!

expatinscotland · 04/07/2007 11:15

I find you incredibly funny, too, RQ. Especially as a writer.

Have you ever thought about turning your hand to comedy?

There's a lot of money to be made in writing material for stand-up comedy, for example.
