I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.

Welcome to Mellymb and brandyberry. You have already had great advice from eallison beforeihit30 and others especially about taking an advocate. It is very hard to fight your corner when feeling as if you're about to be sick. While vomiting on unsympathetic medics' shoes is perhaps a good tactic, most sufferers shrink from it. I hope that Mellymb gets some relief when she can take the Cyzliine, as others say, if not, do ask for other meds. brandyberry I do hope you get sympathetic treatment when you get the appointment, because 12 vomits is defintely not normal. A point worth noting: for some reason, medics cound 'a vomit' as one heave, wheras most people would count a vomit as an individual heaving session. Thereforre, always give the number of heaves in each episode, or the medic will underestimate. I'm assuming that12 iwas 12 separate episodes? A good anti acid can make a huge difference, say, Ranitidne or Ompprazole. The list of drinks and foods of a sort is: flat full sugar coke, ice lollies, the juice of tinned fruit, Lucoazade, Dr Pepper, Iron Bru, Elderflower water, fizzy water, Elderflower cordial and tonic water, tonic water, soda water, ice cubes, sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya), fizzy orange, orange squash, orange juice (if not too acid) Robinson's fruit drinks and lemonade. For foods of a sort, biscuits, cheap ice cream, nibbles of chips and crisps, Scotch pancakes, cuppa soup, slices of melon and mango, baked potatoes, and tinned fruit. Oh dear, a truly appalling diet. But I think sweetness and saltiness can help.
Reastie Congratulations on surviving the birthday party. Next year, you will be the life and soul of the party and LO will have a sibling.
Smile
Various people I know have been suffering from diahorrea for at least a week. There must be a virus going about, on top of everything else.
Sad
advocadoo Sorry about stomach cramps. Might it be that, or might it be vomiting, which can make the stomch muscles very sore?
norbert I am glad you escaped the liquid bowels last night.
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored. Watch me cross post.

eallison Sorry, I missed typing out my sympathy about these nerve racking bleeds. This has been a slightly difficult pregnancy, shall we say!

ElieMcjibe Good advice from norbert about that medicine.

Hi. Sorry to hear about the bleeding. It’s really stressful.

eallison88 · 24/02/2019 18:59

elkie (I think!) Promethazine. I only took it for a few days in my first pregnancy and all I remember is that it did nothing at all for me.

The bleeds have settled over the course of today, so fingers crossed that's it now. Still having period like pains, and the odd bump tightening- but I think the tightenings are simply Braxton hicks. lucinda you are very right about it being a "slightly difficult pregnancy"....! It's like every time my body hears about a pregnancy 'thing' it decides that it must donor have it too! Not sure if I mentioned, but we can now add group b strep to the list of joyous pregnancy complications. That means that I'll need 4 hourly injections of antibiotics during labour. Deep joy.

Have we heard anything from lacey? I'm hoping I've missed a post telling us she has got the care she needs.

Hairwizard · 24/02/2019 19:32

Back online again after wifi issues (hairgician) had to change username as on a new phone and got locked out from here and not sure what happened.
Havent read through thread, hope everyone feeling better at this stage, i seem to be over the sickness thank christ.
Had first twins clinic appt on thurs.
Consultant was fab, could have a bit of craic with her. Due date is 16th august. Im being booked in at 37 weeks for cs however she warned its 50/50 if i see 37weeks!!

Ksjourney · 24/02/2019 19:45

Hey all sorry I have been absent for a while. Been crazy at work and home. Not to mention my expected sickness planned stopping date went well over so I got a bit low as the days and weeks crept by with no improvement. Long and short of it still getting waves of nausea but generally been feeling myself again for about 3 weeks now - whoop! Able to eat dinners and join in with social plans and the waves of nausea are very much ignorable considering how severe the first half of this pregnancy was! Off drugs too another whoop! Thank you to all of you for holding my hand through the many many many dark days. They truly were horrific and you are all amazing for getting through each day please be kind to yourselves and here's to the light at the end of the tunnel xxxx

Well done for surviving the party @Reastiez

Sorry you're having such a difficult time of it @eallison88 bleeding and strep on top of everything else...

Positive thoughts to everyone!

eallison88 · 24/02/2019 19:48

ksjourney I'm so glad you're feeling better and are able to live a more "normal" life again.

TwoShades1 · 24/02/2019 22:46

Can i join in? Just been diagnosed with hg. Feeling so upset and down at the moment. Spent yesterday in hospital and had some IV fluids.

eallison88 · 25/02/2019 07:16

twoshades welcome. What antiemetics have they put you on?

beanhunter · 25/02/2019 08:29

I don’t like today. I didn’t sleep. I feel sick and my hip hurts so walking hurts hard and I’ve got a sore throat - so that will
Be fun to vomit with today.

ElkieMacjibe · 25/02/2019 10:10

Eallison sorry you are having such a tough time, as if you needed anything else to be dealing with

I am back from yet another gp trip, this time with both prochlorperazine and metoclopramide to try separately. Hopefully one will work and also not completely knock me out. Going to try and rest up today and ignore the massive guilt for both calling in sick and barely paying my son any attention before nursery this morning 😢

Reastie · 25/02/2019 10:39

Elkie those drugs both work in very different ways so hopefully one will be good for you. You can add in ondansetron at the same time as both of those if on its own it isn’t enough. Neither make me drowsy like cyclizine does.

Eal are you back to work this week after half term? Hope it’s not too stressful.

Bean poor you, everything feels worse when you’ve slept badly.

Hello twoshades.

Ks hello and that sounds so positive. I keep hoping mine will go away but I think a few people here say it gets better again around 24/25 weeks, and I’m now 23, so I continue to cross fingers I’ll achieve more than I currently can without having to head to bed.

Hello hair. I’m a bit Shock they get you in at 37 weeks to begin process of csection when chances are you might not make it that far! I keep trying to get answers to questions about how csections work at my hospital and they are refusing to help me until 35 weeks. It’s giving me a lot of anxiety not knowing.

Have done too much this morning so am now sat down trying to recover as feeling awful. Fingers crossed if I rest it’ll pass. Sitting in the garden yesterday with the fresh air and sun yesterday really helped my mood so going to try same again this afternoon as looks glorious and sunny again. Dd was born in Feb so it felt like it was cold and winter most of my pg (especially as it snowed for weeks on end and I was trapped at home inside), it’s actually nice to feel spring coming and being outside.

Stroan · 25/02/2019 12:41

@eallison88 so sorry to hear you are having such a rough time. Fingers crossed the bleeds settle down.

I had group B strep (as well as GD and a large baby) in my last pregnancy. I was worried about a very medicalised birth but came to some compromises with the midwives and the labour was actually great, despite the antibiotics.

LucindaE · 25/02/2019 14:08

TwoShades1 Welcome. Sorry you feel so down; who wouldn't? This is, as has been said, the thread that nobody wants to join! What meds have they sent you home with? Just few posts below I have listed various drinks and a few foods that have helped sufferers for another new person, such as flat full sugar coke, ice lollies, and the juiceof tinned fruit. Don't despair, for most people, things do get better after the first dreadful bit, though usually later than the magical 12 weeks (and after all, in practice, a lot of people with managable pregnancy sickness suffer up to 14 weeks). A good anti acid can make a big difference.
beanhunter Poor you. Gentle cyber pats on offer. I remember my chiropractor always said that ice cubes were the thing for sore throats; but as a medic, you will almost certainly know that.
ealliison Oh dear about another complication. I am glad that Stroen has an encouraging story for you.
Hairwizard I have altered the dates. Fancy us having three sets of twins on this thread at the same time. Smile
Elkiemcjibe Can you get sick leave? I am sure you need it. Don't feel guilty about LO. Youngsters are very resiliant, and he will soon forget this period of comparative neglect, if what so many people who have been on this thread have reported. Besides what better gift than a sibling?
eallison I too am concerned about LaceyB. I hope she got effective treatment.
Ksjourney I am so glad you are a lot better. It can take a god while to see an improvement, and I am so glad you are so much better now.
Thank you for coming on to encourage others.

Sorry to hear about the strep b @eallison88 x
I've made it through a whole day at school which involves no teaching, just making lists of all the jobs I need to do. I have a supply teacher who is fab all week though so I can ease back into it. It was nice being with people today and catching up 😀

Ksjourney · 25/02/2019 17:17

Normal is all I've wanted @eallison88. Thank you for the hand hold these long months.
Hey @Reastie I'm now 25 - so am following the that trend. I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

With the sunny weather I feel like I've completely hibernated through the cold weather. 😂

Hairwizard · 25/02/2019 19:37

@reastie
Am actually panicking a bit as consultant was very gung ho about telling me the risks of early labour and how i might not get my csection if i turn up in labour and too far on, even saying as they twins and earky they would tiny so wouldnt even havevto be fully dilated!!
Dp has been told no travel plans from end of may. Just incase.

LucindaE · 25/02/2019 21:57

I’m in Australia so medications may be different. But I’m currently on Pyridoxine and ondansetron. I tried metoclopramide but it didn’t do anything for me. I’ve also been taking ginger tablets. To be honest they don’t do anything. I’m barely eating and not drinking anywhere near enough. Yesterday I was dry heaving a lot as there is nothing to come up!

moonkid · 25/02/2019 22:43

Thanks @LucindaE Smile

I've had an eventful few days... had a huge bleed on Sunday morning and thought the pregnancy was all over. Thankfully after being checked over / scan all is okay. Still a bit of bleeding going on but they think it's due to the pressure in my uterus caused by the twins.

I'm very very constipated with the Ondansetron and it's making me feel more nauseous again. Tried all the usual things - fibre, fruit, fluids (haha), even lactulose but no joy! Anyone else struggle with this with Ondansetron? Any tips? x

Reastie · 26/02/2019 07:35

Twoshades you’ve been gingered Grin . I think pyridoxine is a b vitamin, possibly b 6, but that’s from memory of my b vitamin knowledge so don’t hold me to it! What dose of ondansetron are you on and did they give you something for the ondansetron constipation?

Hair it’s scary isn’t it. I had a failed induction last time resulting in csection. The induction failed to get anything going at all so I’ve bever experienced labour and I’m scared I might not know that it’s actually started and/or when I get to the hospital they will refuse me my csection and make me try with labour. Still, I guess they know what they’re doing.

Norbert hopeyour week back goes well, sounds like you can get back in gradually which should help.

Survived dds actual birthday yesterday although was very sicky when she was opening presents. She was so hyped up it made me exhausted just watching her! Just got to somehow survive her having a friend over this evening (first play date here since my bfp). Luckily have planned it on a day dh is home early so he can take charge and cook their pizza for tea if needed.

cattaxi · 26/02/2019 09:57

Hi everyone! I’m rubbish at keeping up.
Went back to my gp this morning. The cyclezine is helping lots, but I’m so drowsy on it still. So she’s given me some stematil to try.
She’s also referred me to the EPU for a scan tomorrow as i’ve got a really tender spot by my uterus, which is quite painful. She mentioned the possibility of an ectopic, which I hadn’t thought about. So now I’m panicking a bit. Hopefully it’s just a strain from retching.
I can’t believe the amount of drama and I’m only 6 weeks in!

Hope everyone has a good day. At least the weather is still lovely.

LaceyB1995 · 26/02/2019 11:45

Hi all,

Sorry I haven’t been on the past few days I’ve mainly been recovering. I was being my stubborn self on Saturday and didn’t go to hospital however I got worse on Sunday and my partner made me go. I called the 111 service first who wanted to call an ambulance but I managed to get them to let me go by car with my partner when he got home from work. I spent 3 hours on the floor in a&e then was transferred to my own room with fluids and antisickness. They were all brilliant up there under such pressure. After 3 bags of fluids they let me go back home and rest which is what I did yesterday and today I finally feel slightly more human. It takes a while for my body to absorb water apparently and that’s why I had become so dehydrated.

Thank you all so much for your help and also your concern, it’s lovely having so much support here Smile

I hope you’re all doing well today. I will try to go back through and read the thread as haven’t been able to since Saturday Blush
