Basically what the subject is. When I had my dd I was kept in hospital for 3 days before I could go home which was a horrible experience. I didn't have the best care and was very poorly from forcep and episiotomy delivery. Really would have recovered better at home. I'm really keen to go home with this baby as quickly as possible (providing there are no complications). Did you get to go home sooner after your second was born? Obviously providing it was a straight forward birth.

Same story as you first tine round. I also was mentally quite poorly so kept in for 5 days.

Second birth was a breeze in comparison. 7 hr Labour (induced due to heart rate and growth issues). Out in 6 pushes. Hone next day.

Good luck.

About 19 hours post birth.

golddustwomen · 17/01/2019 20:09

Had him at 5pm home at midnight x

Anonalongadingdong123 · 17/01/2019 20:11

Yes, had DD at 11pm out next day at lunch time after all the usual checks.

clairestandish · 17/01/2019 20:13

A few hours later, gave birth in the morning and was out before lunch.

It’s also totally your choice if you want to go home, even if they want you to stay you can decline and discharge yourself. If you didn’t feel there was good enough reason to stay and would feel happier at home.

guineapig1 · 17/01/2019 20:18

DC2 appeared at just after 2am. Discharged about 10.00 am

NigelsBird · 17/01/2019 20:18

I was at home! Best birth ever!

tilder · 17/01/2019 20:18

Born at 10am, home the same day.

I presume you can self discharge but I waited for all necessary people to check me and all paperwork to be completed.

Seline · 17/01/2019 20:19

Five days. Cat 1 EMCS.

ZogTheOrangeDragon · 17/01/2019 20:19

I’ve had three EMCS and been home around 36 hours later each time.

Maliea · 17/01/2019 20:20

6 hours after he was born. Thank goodness for that.

pinkpanther84 · 17/01/2019 20:22

About 16 hours after DS was born. He was born at 1am, went home about 5pm but only as we had to wait ages for his newborn checks to be done.

ivykaty44 · 17/01/2019 20:24

I had a forceps delivery etc and they wanted me to stay one night - I wanted to go home on the day. I said id stay but would be going home at 8am the next day. I was very clear about this. I went at 8am and got home to rest after a sleepless night on a ward of crying babies..!

I think if you say your going home sooner then at least you have some bartering power

I wished I gone home at tea time the previous evening tbh it would have been far better

Don35 · 17/01/2019 20:24

Had her at 1am left at 12pm and I was induced

ivykaty44 · 17/01/2019 20:24

What’s a cat 1 emcs?

MadameJosephine · 17/01/2019 20:26

Delivered at 10am and was back home by 5pm

dicdicnurse · 17/01/2019 20:26

10 days! Easy birth, no stitches, but DD2 wanted the full use of nhs services! Spent days having phototherapy for jaundice and sorting her blood sugars out. Then, just as we were ready for discharge they heard a 'murmur' which turned out to be a heart condition. It was hard being away from DD1 who was only 2 at the time but the positive was that I was well rested, I did nothing but sleep and feed her for the whole stay.

Sausagefingers9 · 17/01/2019 20:27

6 hours after. It was a straightforward birth.

Second labours seem to be the ‘easiest’ ones from what I’ve heard.

2gorgeousboys · 17/01/2019 20:27

DS1 was born at 1:40am on the 24th and I left at about 3pm on the 26th.

DS2 was born at 9:40am and I was at home by 3pm the same day.

Ozziewozzie · 17/01/2019 20:30

You can go home whenever you like. However, saying that, they seem to want to keep us all in. Once you’re in, it’s a mission to get out.

When I had dc5 30 minute labor, no problems, no tears, they talked me into staying the night with the promise I could go at 8 the next morning. I didn’t escape until 3 in the afternoon, for no reason other than they had no staff practically and took the entire morning to fill out a discharge form.

With my dc 2 & 3 I gave birth in a low risk birth unit, so could go home literally an hour later. It was bliss.

Mouthfulofquiz · 17/01/2019 20:32

Gave birth at midnight and discharged at 06:00 to catch up on some zzz at home.

ItsClemFandangoCanYouHearMe · 17/01/2019 20:33

1st was for a night, awful.

2nd has him early morning, slept through his checks and discharged about 8pm. They did rally round because it was in my notes about how distressing the first time was and I was quite poorly but they cut me a lot of slack with a lot of conditions upon my discharge about coming back if I had A B or C.

Maybe have a chat with your midwife?

BendydickCuminsnatch · 17/01/2019 20:35

I had an elective section but lost half my blood so stayed in 2 nights (one in high dependency room). The third day I was absolutely crawling the walls to leave. Requested to be discharged at 6 am ish and didn’t get my meds to be discharged until 3pm ish, by which point I was almost crying I was so bored!! If I hadn’t lost half my blood I would have been able to go home after 1 night I believe. FYI C section was amazing, turned up at 7am, was second on the list but midwife was On It and got me ready so quick we skipped the queue, I was in theatre at 9 and baby born at 9:55! Loved it!

First baby- 4 hours after birth
Second- 6 hours after birth (different hospital and had 6 hour discharge policy)
Third- 6 hours again.

I’ve never spent a night on the postnatal ward and am so grateful from what I’ve heard about them!
