Basically what the subject is. When I had my dd I was kept in hospital for 3 days before I could go home which was a horrible experience. I didn't have the best care and was very poorly from forcep and episiotomy delivery. Really would have recovered better at home. I'm really keen to go home with this baby as quickly as possible (providing there are no complications). Did you get to go home sooner after your second was born? Obviously providing it was a straight forward birth.

1st was induced, forceps, episiotomy and 3 days in hospital, 2 days at home then readmitted for another 5 due to non feeding. It was hell.

2nd was in for 40 mins before she was born, then they said I could go home after 6 hours but that would have been about 1am, so I stayed overnight then home first thing in the morning. So about 15/16 hours maybe.

After 4 nights in hospital (elective c/s).

TheVanguardSix · 17/01/2019 21:28

Next morning. With all 3 of mine.
I always waited for the hearing test/heal prick test/paediatric visit before leaving hospital. It’s worth the stay over.

elliejjtiny · 17/01/2019 21:31

3 hours

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 17/01/2019 21:31

Dc2 was another emergency section, born at 6am, discharged at 1pm the following day. Would have been earlier if we hadn't had to wait for my blood results (was anemic) and they didn't come and take them until just before 11 am.

I got the impression our hospital like one night for elective sections/"easy" births and prefer a bit longer for everything else as they certainly tried to convince me to stay another night because I'd laboured first even though we were both absolutely fine.

2 x ELCS
First baby the offered for me to go home after 1 night but was still feeling pretty ropey and feeding not going great so I stayed for 2 - my choice
Second baby - I was begging them to take the catheter out so I could get up and ready at 5am as couldn’t sleep. I was up and dressed and ready to leave by 9am but didn’t get home till later in the afternoon but still only about 36 hours total.

I gave birth at 8.49pm I was sat at home with a cup of tea at 11.45pm

bibbitybobbityyhat · 17/01/2019 21:58

I see it's become a competition now!

Wigeon · 17/01/2019 22:01

First baby: 6 hours after birth

Second baby: four hours after birth. I’d only gone to hospital because there were no midwives available to come out to my planned, low risk home birth Hmm so basically wanted to get home ASAP afterwards. Straightforward normal delivery.

IggyAce · 17/01/2019 22:02

Dc2 was born at 10:50am and we home and meeting big sister by about 6pm that evening. Straightforward delivery, 10days early.
After dc1 I knew I didn’t want to spend another night in hospital if I could help it.

Surfingtheweb · 17/01/2019 22:07

Had an op after 1st to remove my placenta, so stayed 1 night. With my second I was in & out in about 6 hours. Took about a week to be able to sit down properly though Blush

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 17/01/2019 22:09

24 hours with first, about 6 hours with second.

cricketmum84 · 17/01/2019 22:15

I know a lot of people who were out within a few hours after second baby.

I was 3 days :( I tested positive for group B strep and baby came way too fast for the IV antibiotics to protect her to be administered so we were both in for monitoring.

I see it's become a competition now!
I was discharged before I’d even arrived bibbity, what of it?Grin
Actually, DD2 born 8.20am and was back home about 2pm but I think I was lucky as there was literally one other mum to be in at the same time as me so I had a lot of attention! Two midwives, ran me a lovely hot bath and kept bringing me cups of tea and I got a private room, bliss! Well, YNWIM!

Ribbonsonabox · 17/01/2019 22:27

I just left against medical advice both times. So did not even spend one night there either time. You can just leave, they make you sign a form to say it's not what they wanted and they are liable for anything that happens.
I would not have left if there had been a serious medical reason for me being there... it was just 'hospital policy' to stay in overnight. The recovery wards both times were horrendous and I had my whole family waiting to support me at home... so I just went to the desk and said I was leaving and I'd sign anything they wanted. They do try and stall you but I just told them that I was going in ten mins whether I'd signed anything or not... then they got out the form.

Sunhill4 · 17/01/2019 22:30

Tbh I stayed in as long as I could get away with after all 3 of mine. I felt safer in hospital & had to be thrown out!!

jellycat · 17/01/2019 22:31

3 days with dc1 (asked for an earlier discharge but they said no because he’d been in special care for 24hours post delivery and they wanted to keep him in). 6 hours with dc2 despite a difficult delivery. They wanted to keep me in overnight but I pleaded because I wanted to get home and into my own bed, and to get back to relieve my fairly elderly parents who were looking after dc1. Went back twice over the next 2 days for paediatrician checks and anti-D for me.

BikeRunSki · 17/01/2019 22:31

5 days. Traumatic crash section. Hospital wanted to observe DD, I needed further surgery.

snowone · 17/01/2019 22:34

I'm currently pregnant with DD2 but with DD1 I had her at 6.50am and was home by 3pm. Could have stayed in but didn't see the point. Hoping for the same for DD2

FunnysInLaJardin · 17/01/2019 22:39

I loved being in hospital with both DS's. The first I stayed in 5 nights, the second 2 nights. They wanted me to go after the first night with DS2, but I said no I have just had a baby Grin

I just liked being looked after and being brought cocoa and biscuits at 8pm!

Ana86 · 17/01/2019 22:42

About 2 hours. They didn't really give me any option, about 30 mins after she was born they came into the delivery room with a load of papers to discharge and said I was free to go and there wasn't any space on the ward anyway plus they needed the delivery room and the shower was broken. So I left. Annoyingly all the papers that I was given were about how they didn't advise early discharge and how it was risky.

I think they were busy. I only got a midwife as the head was emerging...

Clottedcreamfudge · 17/01/2019 22:44

First I had 1 on 1 nursing care for 4 days plus 3 more days on ward for dc1. Very sick with sepsis.

Dc2 arrived 4:30am was ready to go by 11:30am but lots of others took priority to be discharged so didn’t get out until 8pm. Was very glad to be well, no tearing, baby arrived within minutes of arriving at hospital. Felt better that day than I had in the last few weeks of pregnancy.

Endofrelationship · 17/01/2019 22:45

@Ana86 Jesus! Did you even get the newborn baby checks done?

Ana86 · 17/01/2019 22:50

They told me to come back in a couple of days for the checks so I ended up going all the way back with a newborn (in the snow as it happened!). I think I must have been pretty unlucky because the midwife who saw me when I went back knew exactly who I was and spent ages apologising and complaining about how it angry she was that they couldn't give people proper care.

NickMarlow · 17/01/2019 22:54

Dd1 ELCS, 3 nights in hospital

Dd2 EMCS (failure to progress), 1 night in hospital. I knew to get moving as soon as possible so they'd let me out,no-one told me about that the first time around
