Basically what the subject is. When I had my dd I was kept in hospital for 3 days before I could go home which was a horrible experience. I didn't have the best care and was very poorly from forcep and episiotomy delivery. Really would have recovered better at home. I'm really keen to go home with this baby as quickly as possible (providing there are no complications). Did you get to go home sooner after your second was born? Obviously providing it was a straight forward birth.

DD1 - born at midnight, went home about 5pm the next day, due to delays with hearing tests before we could be discharged
DD2 - born 10pm, first up for checks in the morning and home before lunch

MadeForThis · 17/01/2019 20:38

Emergency c section at 2am. Discharged at midday. Said I had to stay one night. Agreed that from 2am counted as one night.

Wanted home to dd1. And off the noisy ward.

OneBiscuitAtATime · 17/01/2019 20:38

First was in for 2 nights as feeding wasn’t going well. Second a little over 24 hours, but only because DD was to get some tests for something spotted on a scan, which turned out to be nothing.

anniehm · 17/01/2019 20:40

Longer than the first due to birth timings - went at 10am the next day with both. However these were very easy deliveries no stitches, don't rush - if they say you should stay listen (with number two there's no such thing as quiet when you get home!)

2isabella2 · 17/01/2019 20:41

First baby born in the morning and I went home that night. They encouraged me to stay to help with feeding but I was quite happy so far with breastfeeding and wanted my bed after a long labour.

Second was 48 hours as I had a big bleed - as I felt pretty crap I was happy to stay in but - after a straightforward birth - it was disappointing what happened!

SkylightAndChandelier · 17/01/2019 20:42

Emergency csection about 2 in the afternoon - was out the next day (thank god, that ward was HOT)

Youmadorwhat · 17/01/2019 20:45

I think I’m the only person who loved staying in hospital after my births, I stayed three nights with both. After second birth I did lose quite a bit of blood so had a transfusion etc so couldn’t leave until all was settled with that. But they gave me a private room ( god knows why) made me tea non stop, I was treated like a queen!! And same with my first!! I have no idea why!! This was in the uk!! God bless those midwives they were AMAZING!! And it was treasure quiet time with both babies 🙌

Similar experience to you first time, 2nd DS born 3.36am and I was home by 11am (and we live 30 mins from hospital) !

JassyRadlett · 17/01/2019 20:51

DS2 was born at 9pm, but they had to spend a couple of hours stitching me up. They offered me the choice to go home around midnight. I chose to stay, partly because I’d had a nightmare establishing feeding with DS1.

My hospital had private ensuite rooms as standard or I might not have been so keen! They had just been given permission to make toast on the ward and were SO excited about it. I was kept topped up with tea and toast all night.

As it was he fed solidly from 2am to 6am while I fondly recalled DS1 who kindly settled in for a long nap a few hours after being born. Ended up going home around midday.

randomsabreuse · 17/01/2019 20:55

About 40 hours coz had to have a 24h catheter in as I couldn't pee after the birth. Really annoying as the MLU ward was tiny and dark with the windows blocked off. Also noisy...

Eatmycheese · 17/01/2019 20:56

Had DD at 11pm
Kept in overnight home for lunchtime the next day

PippilottaLongstocking · 17/01/2019 20:57

Woke up 6.30am, went straight to hospital, born 8.11am and home by 3pm

Eatmycheese · 17/01/2019 20:57

Sorry pressed send too soon
All three were get me out as quick as they could!

DrGradusAdParnassum · 17/01/2019 20:58

8 days with DC1 (vaginal birth from Hell, which nearly killed both of us. It was supposed to be a drug-free home birth).

2 days with DC2 (ELCS).

rebelrosie12 · 17/01/2019 21:00

5 days with the first one and I found it incredibly hard. A few hours with second....totally amazing to go home just after having my baby. Wonderful. Hope you get the same

Passthepigs · 17/01/2019 21:01

5 hours after birth for my first, hoping for the same with DC2 next month!

anothermansmother · 17/01/2019 21:02

Dd born at 520am went home at 8am, was back home in time to do the school run. I had a very easy labour with her.

I thought I'd be in at least until the evening, but they seem to try and get you back home ASAP with your second baby!

MaverickSnoopy · 17/01/2019 21:14

DC1 born 11pm and went home the following day at 6pm.

DC2 born at 7pm and home by midnight.

DC3 born at 9pm and I was told I could go straight home. I asked to stay in despite having been admitted to hospital twice prior to delivery and not wanting to be in hospital. I felt incredibly unwell and it was definitely the right decision.

If you need to stay in you'll probably be feeling too unwell to care - even with your previous experience.

WitBeyondMeasure · 17/01/2019 21:15

Had her at 8am home putting ds1 in bed by 6pm

DramaAlpaca · 17/01/2019 21:17

I had DC2 in the early hours of the morning and went home in the afternoon.

confusednorthner · 17/01/2019 21:17

Ds born at 11am in local birthing unit and we walked indoors at 1:30, mil nearly had a heart attack as didn't expect us for hours!

mnahmnah · 17/01/2019 21:21

I had a straightforward birth with both of mine. Went home on second day with my first, purely because they were so busy the paperwork and newborn checks couldn’t get done quick enough.

With my second, I was in three days due to him not wanting to feed. I had no problems feeding with my first so this was all a bit of a surprise and I was desperate to get home.

So, basically, even with straightforward births there can still be reasons you have to stay in!

Endofrelationship · 17/01/2019 21:23

I'm clearly the only person who wanted to stay in hospital! With DS I was in 2 nights as I was ill. I didn't feel well enough to go home but felt I had to. I get no recuperation at home!

This time I'm having a section and they want me out in 24 hours! When I refused one of the medications on the 'enhanced recovery pathway' (due to prevent horrid experience) which my midwife was discussing with me she said I'd have to stay in another night or two. She was shocked when I said that was fine by me!

Lizbiz89 · 17/01/2019 21:24

Thank you for the replies! Sounds like getting discharge after second baby is a lot easier! Obviously if baby or myself require extra monitoring then we will stay, otherwise I'm getting myself home for a decent cup of tea!
